The food is to die for. Beautifully presented, layers of flavor and textures and an eclectic menu. Over the top wine list. Service was a little uneven, but our server was personable and informative. On the negative side, all of the solid surfaces - floor, walls, ceiling - amplifies the sound making having a conversation difficult. How about some fabric on the walls and ceiling to dampen sound. Bardo isn't the only restaurant with this problem, The Butcher and the Boar and Bachelor Farmer come to mind, but it is easily solvable.
Overall, a top notch restaurant.
great food and exhibit of food plates. Service was super. A bit pricey overall. Very noisy room. Not great for more intimate dining but a fun place.
Very nice atmosphere in a cool area of town. Food was delicious, but small portions, so prepare yourself for that from an appetite and pocketbook perspective. My wife and I split the Duck Liver Mouse, Large Scallop (which was just three small scallops for $27), Mushrooms, Potatoes and the Steak. All were delicious, but we spent $180 and were not full, so we stopped for dessert at another place on the way home. Drinks were creative and good. Service was just okay; at a place like this, I expect to bond with the server a little bit, but he was hurried and not as engaging as I would hope. ( E.g., I had to ask his name, he didn't welcome us or ask us how we were.) At best, I think this is a place to go one time, but in a city/metro with as many incredible restaurant options as Minneapolis/St. Paul, I don't think this is a must-see.
they mixed up our reservation, then put us in the front cafe area where it was freezing cold. we begged them to move us to a warmer table in the back, and they finally did when we were in the middle of our appetizers. as a result, our food got cold. after we were moved to the back, it took almost an hour for our entrees to come out, which were lukewarm. needless to say, the service was quite lackluster.
Food good. Same menu as every time I’ve been there in the last several years. Wine choices limited. Fabulous mixed drinks. Server was too fresh and smart mouthed, not funny, disrespectful.
Had to be the best duck breast we've ever had. Many of the courses you can get half portions which make it nice to try different things. Cant wait for the patio to open

I dined with two other people and our food and drinks had some hits and misses. My husband’s old fashioned arrived in a glass with a stinky smell. So he asked for a new drink, and the staff was very pleasant but the second drink also had a bad smell to it! My husband didn’t want to create a big fuss so he drank it and held his nose. I was surprised they didn’t bother to smell the second glass before using it and sending out another stinky drink. My husband’s chicken was bland with no sauce. My duck breast was undercooked, rare, and chewy instead of medium rare as duck breast is usually is prepared. Our friend’s shrimp and cheesy grits were fine, but curiously not very cheesy. Dessert was unimpressive. The ricotta and lavash was plain without much flavor and the chocolate cake also did not have much flavor. The gelato that came with the cake was good and I wish we had just had a bowl of that. Overall it felt like the flavors were all just off, or had hardly any flavor. Would not go back.

Simply, great food - but little else that excelled.
Similarly priced top-tier restaurants do a superb job at attending to all the details, but there were just too many small flaws here for a generous review. A waitress who could not speak the words, "I don't know, let me find out", but could continue to evade the question with gibberish when asked about a cocktail ingredient; 15 minutes for a slice of lemon to arrive after being offered and again requesting, soup that was delicious - but not warm enough, un-welcomed seating in the bar area featuring the "very "nearby eye-level scenery of butts of patrons - while there was more than ample room in the dining area, and more, but all combining to negatively offset truly good food.

We had a reservation, yet they tried to seat us at a very undesirable table by the front door. They did move us after we asked. Our food arrived, and was cold. The waiter returned it to the kitchen, and they did fix the problem. I was very disappointed, as several people had recommended this restaurant.

It's nice to be able to visit with your dinner companion without shouting.....not possible! Food and wine pricey for what you get. The sauce on my fish was really salty. Waiters were attentive and pleasant.
Bardo is my girlfriend and her family's favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. It is where they go when it's time for a celebration. This is my first experience. The entrees we all ate were expertly prepared and cooked to perfection: steak, duck, and fish. We will definitely be back.

This was our sixth or seventh time at Bardo. The food was simply outstanding: as good as any place in the Twin Cities or any major metropolitan area. The menu changes just enough to keep things interesting but the mainstays —like the homemade bread— are valued keepers. We drive about 15 miles to eat here, and we’d go twice a month if it were closer. I recommend it without qualification.

We were celebrating our 1st year anniversary. The hostess was nice and helped us find our seats. Food was good but salty and took a while. Server also took a long time to take our order and was slightly awkward. We asked for the leftovers to be boxed and they forgot to give us when we were leaving. The ambience is slightly dark and can get noisy. All in all, it was an expensive affair with little to remember. We won’t be going there again

My boyfriend and I went for a date night and had high expectations given reviews. They sat us in a nice booth with ample seating. We ordered two appetizers and two mains. Our appetizers came out quickly but after our plates were cleared, we then proceeded to wait 35-40 minutes for our entrees. During this time, nobody came by to ask if we were ok or to apologize for the wait. After this long period, we were getting hangry and finally waived over a waitress to ask about our food. She said she would check and then came back and apologized for the delay. It was clear that they had forgotten it. 10 minutes later, our entrees arrived but the lobster roe tagliatelle was missing any signs of lobster. Rather than wait again, we just ate our food.
The restaurant only apologized once for the delay and never apologized for the botched entree. They didn’t offer to comp the entree or offer a free dessert on the house. I understand mistakes happen but good service can make up for it. In this case, Bardo failed on the service front.

We were excited to try Bardo and went to celebrate a birthday. After being seated we waited almost 10 min to a server, so by this time we figured out what we wanted to eat, as well as drink. We placed our order then saw two other tables get seated, attended too, and their drinks brought to them before we got our wine glasses. After this service was fine, but this was not a good first impression. Some plates, shrimp and grits, ricotta dessert and chocolate dessert, were wonderful; our entrees were fine - scallops and the lobster tagliatelle. Glad we tried it, it's not on our "must get back to" list.
We celebrated our anniversary, our cocktails were both excellent, the wine list lovely. We shared several items for dinner and all of them were delightful. We will absolutely celebrate here again.

When we first walked in I was immediately reminded of a place we ate at in Paris called Champagne and Canard. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to see foie gras and duck breast on the menu. I must say that both were better than what we had in Paris! So impressed by the ambiance of this place as well. The patio was a delightful place for a cocktail before our meal. The cold scallop salad was so flavorful and just the perfect amount before the main course. The Wagyu steak was also outstanding. The Aligot potatoes were a perfect complement and so incredibly delicious. The wine selection is second to none. This was the best dining experience we have had since our trip to Paris and would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves to eat great food. What a gem!
Excellent Service with very good food. Had Shrimp and Grits: A-; Scallops: A; Tagliatelle: A; Pork Belly: C. The first three items were delicious and unique. Heavy salt hand across all dishes. Pork Belly was a miss - lacked depth and texture. Portions are very, very small.

Menu is excellent; most main plates offered in half sizes. Great bartender; cocktails reasonably priced, wine a bit less so. We shared a great greens salad as well as mushrooms. We each ordered a different half sized main and I had an excellent food gras.
Restaurant was very busy on great patio due to amazing weather. Seems they may have been down one wait person, as service was a bit slow but otherwise good. Staff was knowledgeable about entire menu.
Seems like inside seating could be a bit noisy, but front of bar area is also quant and cosy. Definitively will return.

We always have an amazing time here—so appreciate the sommeliers and the servers for hooking us up with perfection every.single.time. The food always has amazing flavor—it’s just sooo good!! We had salumi, pork belly, duck, aligot potatoes, diver scallops, and a gorgeous bottle of Borolo this last time. All fantastic!!
Bardo is consistently excellent. I love the menu -- so many good choices and always evolves with the seasons. I personally love the fact that you have the option to get smaller portions, as it makes it easy to mix and match a variety of dishes. The wait staff is always friendly, informative and thoughtful -- I appreciate that I can just order a selection of dishes and they will course it out perfectly. And of course the cocktails -- always interesting and so delicious. Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, and excellent service -- Bardo is a real gem.

Menu is interesting and diverse - perhaps 5-10% overpriced, but basic execution errors on entrees, such as undercooked steak. Decor and outdoor space are charming.
The stuffed morel was incredible and the Trebbiano d’A bruzzo was a perfect pairing. The patio is fabulous!

Great food and service. Appreciate that food was served promptly, so we could make a show at the Orpheum on time.
Only issue was that we had wanted to sit outside, but weren’t able to and it looked like there were ample spaces. The secluded spot we were offered was a nice compromise.
We loved our main courses, but the dessert menu was surprisingly short—3 choices, one of which wasn’t sweet.
There is nothing I don't love about Bardo! The food the service the ambience, did I mention the food?
I've been wanting to get into Bardo for quite some time, so when a last minute reso was available for a Friday evening, I took advantage of it. And I was not disappointed. We started out with their sparkling rose which was the perfect mix of sweet and dry. At our server's recommendation, we started with an amuse bouche - their morels stuffed with a guinea hen mousse. YUMMY and the perfect start for the evening. An order of their house bread with lavender honey butter was next. Still warm and fresh. Could have used a sharper knife to cut the bread rather than tearing it, but it was tasty nonetheless.
2 of our party ordered salads: one was the microgreen salad with carbonated grapefruit. The grapefruit lent a special freshness and brightness with the carbonation. The other salad was the beat and turnip. That friend is a fan of beets and said these were wonderful.
Dinner was the duck breast (always a favorite of mine), and the Wagyu steak. The duckbreast was cooked perfectly. The confit that came with it was a little chewy and the fava beans were scarce but perfectly cooked. But the sauce beneath the duck was splendid. And we ordered a side of the Alitot Potatoes which were some of the creamiest, tastiest mashed potatoes I've ever had. And as perfect as they were, they were even better when dragged through the sauce the duck was served with. And the wagyu was both tender and tasty. A big hit that would be ordered again.
The dessert menu is short, but if it is on the menu, don't get anything else but the meyer lemon sorbet with the rhubarb, olive oil and sea salt. It was amazing. We also tried the Harbison cheese, which was a nice finish as well, though it paired better with our rose than with the excellent cappuccinos we had.
Service was flawless and friendly. Fallon, our primary server was spot on with his recommendations. And Yessica, another server, offered excellent advice as well. And Sierra, our runner, was friendly, quick to deliver and remove!
