SIMPLE/CASUAL/FRESH In France, a brasserie is a café doubling as a restaurant with a relaxed setting, serving single dishes and other meals. The expectation is to have professional service and printed menus but more informal eating hours than a full-fledged restaurant. Typically, a brasserie is open every day of the week and the same menu is served all day. The word 'brasserie' is also French, and by extension means: "the brewing business". Waitress staff were very polite and were as attentive as they could be -- it was lunchtime in downtown Calgary, and they were serving multiple tables. The restaurant was basically full, so the kitchen staff was dealing with lots of orders, all at the same time. We had a group of eight, so we ended up being seated at the back of the restaurant. What I didn't appreciate most was the bartender took a break around 1:15, while we were still eating, opened up the back door and lit up a cigarette. He (and perhaps others) basically stood by the door, which pulling all the outdoor air into the restaurant for air flow, and we all had to put up with his cigarette smoke for 5 or so mins. During this time there was no one to complain to (all the waitresses were busy), and I didn't realize that it was an actual staff member who was smoking until he came back inside and closed the back door. Everything was ok except for this, but this experience definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and the next time I book a group lunch, Barcelona Tavern is now very low on my list as a restaurant option.

Everything was great except for our server, she was friendly but we had to ask for drink refills and our glasses sat empty a few times.

Been to Barcelona numerous times and this time (again) did not disappoint. Service was on point.
