Barbadoes Room -The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel
Exquisite and creative dishes that exceeded my expectation!
Went for Mother’s Day and had a great Brunch. Good service with bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary’s and a very nice buffet spread. A great experience all around.
Beautiful Mother's Day setting! Lovely buffet that covered brunch and lunch with fresh quality and constant monitoring of the food. I'm not normally big on buffet service but this was exceptional. Sat outside and was very comfortable and able to enjoy the classic Charleston hotel experience.
Group of 6 for Mother’s Day brunch. Food selection was great and there was no way we could possibly try everything offered. Seafood cold bar was a nice touch. Throughout the meal the kitchen managers were on top of making sure all the options were full.
Unfortunately, the service at our table was horrible. We had dirty plates sitting at the corner of our table for at least 10” before I moved them to the middle of our table for at least another 15”. As frustrating as this was, the hostess, presumed Manager and presumed lead Waiter were stationed within 10 ft of our table and walked by us 20+ times. I guess sitting people and ringing the register up for $75/head was more important than making sure their guests were satisfied.
I made a reservation for my daughter's college graduation brunch. I called to inquire if Saturday brunch was held and was confirmed. I made the reservation on Open Table. Our server was quite brusque when we arrived and were told there was no Saturday Brunch. No apology made for the miscommunication. We had a party of nine. The food was very slow to arrive and came out in a trickle one or two plates at a time. Of the nine diners, five individuals got the completely wrong item to eat and there was something missing or mixed up with the other four orders. The food was cold and unappetizing. The manager agreed to only accommodate the check partially. It was the worst dining experience I have ever had. DO NOT USE THIS RESTAURANT!
Located in a beautiful, historic hotel. We ate in the courtyard area..it was a nice, scenic view for breakfast. The flowers and fountain made it very peaceful and the food was great.
Be careful what you order. The crab Benedict sounds good, but is just poached eggs on crab without any sauce that would enhance the otherwise quite bland taste. The she crab soup was very good. Very good, friendly service.
Wife had salmon served on beets and cauliflower mousse-EXCELLENT.
I had grouper served in giant lima bean sauce with fennel marmalade-also EXCELLENT.
Nancy, our server was, you guessed it, EXCELLENT.
Chef is clever and inventive. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
They never should have taken ANY reservations near the end of the event if they had no intention of making sure the last reservations received the same fresh, complete menu as stated. Then because of the lack of food items that were picked over, my 2:45 seating and a 7 top that came in behind us, were screwed out of the always wonderful experience. I have taken my family there for 7 years. But that won't be happening again. The server Robin was exceptional as were her support staff, but in trying to make up for this fiasco, they over-served my husband martinis and he became inebriated, which made the rest of my Easter intolerable. This is in no way the normal reflection of this great hotel. But I would still recommend this establishment.
It may be good for regular dining, but the Easter buffet was embarrassingly inept. We arrived @215 and I had been assured by the person taking the reservation that they would not allow items to run out for the later seatings. This was not the case. We sat at a small cocktail table with staff running behind us on both sides. Larger tables just need to be cleaned. They were out of oysters and lamb, which was the reason we chose this buffet. Lamb came out later, and was raw except the outer most slices, so not enough to go around. Also, no sauces like au jus, chutney or mint to compliment the lamb, just some Dijon aioli which was gone and dried on the edges. It would have been better to have nothing than to present that. The salad bar had 2 dressings that were ranch type heavy offerings, no vinegrette anywhere. The sides were ok, but nothing noteworthy, just everyday local fare. The final blow was the dessert table. There were still many customers throughout the restaurant eating and talking. I could not believe the mess that was left by 300p. Someone, even if it wasn’t there job, should have come out, removed the majority of the plates and trays the had been picked over and cleaned up and reorganized the 3 things that were left into a less distressing display. Guests were making comments and jokes about how bad it was. We have never been this disappointed at a 75 dollar per person holiday buffet.
We enjoyed being there. The wait staff was attentive. Enjoyed the music and atmosphere. The food was disappointing.
Brunch was $75 a person...seafood portion was set up in the sun. The food that was set up inside was cold. Bread was so hard my 6 year old wouldn’t eat it. All the desserts were store bought and not made in house. Total tourist trap!!!!
We so enjoyed the Easter Buffet! Loved the live music. Nice variety of food. Great atmosphere.
We have gone there for 5 Easter’s in a row....Has always been wonderful but this year the restaurant had made so many changes/cut backs that the experience was horrible. Always had unlimited mimosas now only get one complimentary drink..... buffet used to be Hugh now minimal with NO salad bar which used to take up about 30 feel. For 4 people bill was $347.00......the buffet was worth$25 at most!!! Would NOT recommend to others!!!!
Exceptional food choices for Easter Brunch. Nice HH menu and value during the week. Beautiful courtyard setting.
This is a very pleasant place/space. The Easter Brunch was fair, food pretty ordinary, and service very slow.
When we tried to pay our check, the computer was down!
Great Raster Brunch!
Staying at the hotel- delighted with the food
Great food, a beautiful dining room and wonderful service from Andrew!
The hotel and restaurant are classic and the service is top notch along with the choices of great food and drinks.
Very ordinary food for the money. Was expecting it to a bit more special, most hotel restaurants in Charleston are outstanding so we were disappointed
My wife and I were on vacation in Charleston,SC. We made dinner reservations at the hotel restaurant where we had a fabulous dinner consisting of oxtail agnolotti & the farmers salad for starters, then we both had the short rib for dinner and cinnamon swirl cheesecake and s’mores for dessert. The entire earl was outstanding and met our expectations.
Our waiter AJ, answer every one of our questions, which we had quite a few, he made suggestions along with recommendations, in which we appreciated very much and he did it all with a smile and professional attitude.
AJ’s assistant Tia, was just as knowledgeable while answering our questions we had for her, and just like AJ, all with a smile and professional attitude.
We went for a bachelorette party and they treated us like gold. Gave us a private dinning experience on a terrace over looking Charleston. Nancy our waitress was absolutely wonderful. We will absolutely go back.
The meal were outstanding in flavor and texture (duck) . My husband and I were so impressed with the quality of the food, the beautiful decor, the outstanding service not only of the servers but the entire staff that greeted us, checked on us to see that we were satisfied with our meal, and made a point to say thank us and good-bye when we left. We will make the The Mills House our number one choice when dining in downtown Charleston and plan to take friends who visited from out of state to the Mills House for dinner.
Throughly enjoyed our pre-theater lunch with our grandchildren. Everything was just right - food, service and a beautiful setting. We will return again.
Fabulous food! Service was great. I’ll definitely be going back.
Fantastic! Wonderful dining experience. Staff was gracious, the food was delicious. We had the charcuterie plate and absolutely loved it. Heard about it on the local television station and it lived up to the review they provided.
Server has worked there 16 years. I had not been in hotel for at least 8 years. She remembered me. How nice!!
Food was very good. Plated exceptionally.
Very limited menu. For 9pm lighter fare or breakfast items would have been nice
This restaurant is a hidden gem in downtown Charleston. The food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is quiet, spacious and comfortable. The service is top notch without being overbearing. The burrata salad is to die for. We will definitely return!
Great brunch menu. Dietary issues were handled well by server & chef. Will definitely return
The service was very good; The restaurant was not full which lessens the ambiance; The food was very good. I think they need to add many more items to menu. Very limited selection to entrees.
Went for lunch with my three 20’s children, twins turning 21. Our server was a sweetheart. The hostess was very rude to my 22 yr old daughter when she got there first. We all were a tad late due to zero parking within 3 blocks. Food was good but overpriced.
Excellent food in a unique and and pretty setting. Will return
The food was reasonably good. I was disappointed by the service. It was slow and delivery of my order was not coordinated, for example my glass of wine arrived long after my main course. Overall, too expensive for the quality of food and service.
Beautiful dining room that leads out to an amazing courtyard, hospitable but professional staff from the Manager to the server even the bus girl . Food ( Mahi Mahi) was nice and hot and very tasty! Will return when in town next!
At 7:30 PM on a Sunday with very few other customers in the Mills House Barbadoes Room, for a second time our table of six (6) experienced terribly slow service for both drinks and dinners.
Alert: The Mills House Barbadoes Room added a 20% gratuity for our table of six diners with no prior disclosure on the website, or on the menu, or on my reservation confirmation that I noticed. The server also failed to disclose the automatic charge.
Charleston has many excellent restaurants that provide good to excellent food and service, and which disclose billing terms that may include automatic gratuities.
dated atmosphere that no way implies a Barbadian environment. Food was blah however the service was good. Never return and another Hanna Raskin failure
Food was not good. Two meals came out and the tied was out 15” later and was cold and eggs were over cooked and order was incorrect. Waitress was nice and restaurant was clean and comfortable.
