Barbacco is a modern trattoria that reflects the vibrant city life of San Francisco and offers a casual dining experience that delivers exceptional wines, personable service, and high quality food inspired by recipes from all regions of Italy.

Barbacco looks sleek and urbane, with a welcoming feel. The 66-seat restaurant is fitted with a rich black marble bar for counter seating complimented by a bright yellow beverage case displaying coolers of wine on one side and the building’s original brick walls on the other. The dining tables throughout the restaurant are great for parties of two and up to six. The space is full of energy and infused with a convivial atmosphere where guests come to meet friends or make new acquaintances.

Reservations are welcome, keep in mind that our seating capacity is comprised of counter space and individual tables. We will honor requests for individual tables to the best of our ability.

This has been a go-to place for us for many years; corporate dinner, out of town guests, and so on. We miss the olive ascolane! We'll miss Barbacco even more. Thanks for the memories.

Appetizers, entrees and wine were all delicious. The wine list was a little expensive, but the wine was good so it wasn't an issue. The overall noise level was a little high, right on the edge of being able to easily hear the person sitting with you without shouting.

Server didn’t feel as if she cared about anything with re our dining experience Food was dropped with no explanation- (not by our waiter) On the OpenTable app I said we were celebrating my friend’s 60th birthday. When the dessert was delivered I had to ask for a candle. I won’t go back - judging by the lack of diners others seem to know what I learned- experience was lacklustre and expensive. The sister restaurant Perbacco was hopping’

Broccoli was over sauced and over cooked. Pasta wasn’t as good as it usually is. Server was lazy and non attentive. This used to be a good place to eat with great food and service. You’d think with SF struggling, they’d pick up their game. Not the case when we were there. I haven’t been to this restaurant in a year or so. I’m not looking to come back anytime soon.

I had dinner alone and enjoyed every dish- the crostini sampler was really indulgent. Orecchiette pasta was savory and meaty, and I finished with polpette, covered in the richest tomato sauce. Definitely going back!

Comfortable and casual atmosphere. Small but well curated wine list. Fantastic food. Lasagna and orecchiette were a hit. Halibut was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Cannellini bean ragout was flavorful with just the right texture. And in this era of over priced restaurant menus, it indeed is a bargain for the quality and execution.

A great destination for a casual, yet expertly prepared dinner. The mushroom pasta was intense with flavor, the chicken cacciatore offered a generous portion with crispy sautéed broccolini and creamy polenta. Attentive service in a relaxing room- could not have been a better evening.

Started with the Salumi which had your average Salumi board items. The stars of the show was the fish of the day special (Halibut) and the Spaghetti dish. Both had incredible flavors. The homemade spaghetti was great but the sauce which had some of the shellfish broth in it was fantastic. The dish came with prawns and mussels which had a great flavor. The Halibut was cooked to perfection and had a hint of the firewood grill flavor. The wine reduction sauce was light enough and complemented the entire dish. Had the strawberry dessert which was light and was the right finish to the meal. Will definitely be back.
