Barbacco looks sleek and urbane, with a welcoming feel. The 66-seat restaurant is fitted with a rich black marble bar for counter seating complimented by a bright yellow beverage case displaying coolers of wine on one side and the building’s original brick walls on the other. The dining tables throughout the restaurant are great for parties of two and up to six. The space is full of energy and infused with a convivial atmosphere where guests come to meet friends or make new acquaintances.
Reservations are welcome, keep in mind that our seating capacity is comprised of counter space and individual tables. We will honor requests for individual tables to the best of our ability.
Even though Barbacco is the less expensive version, it is not worth the money. The service was snooty with pressure to spend money. The least expensive glass of wine was 14.00 with not amazing choices. Your jammed into a tiny space and the food was mediocre. Nothing from the two appetizers all the way through the dessert was rave worthy. I am a local and was disappointed.
Outstanding food but the service sucked. I wasn’t super into the atmosphere either. But a cool place, I’d probably go back for lunch.
Excellent value: food tasty and prices quite low for San Francisco. We enjoyed the monthly set price menu with 2 antipasti and 2 pastas. Couldn't resist ordering the brussel sprouts and the chocolate cake for dessert. Great place!
i HAVE BEEN TO PERBACCO A FEW TIMES AND FINALLY CAME TO BARBACCO. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE NAME IT IS NOT A FULL BAR.
Roasted beet salad with whipped goat cheese followed by orchiette with broccoli and sausage. Delicious!
Food quality was fine but portions were super small (my colleague with me agreed).
Yet another fine meal from Owners Umberto & Steffan.
Pastas best, entrees very good, desserts wonderful.
Only problem was that server did NOT pace meal properly or AS ASKED. She brought 1st course cold apps & requested 2nd course warm Pastas at the SAME time. Not smart or clever or enjoyable for us. The biggest problem was that the 2-top table top was SMALL & there was NO table top room for ALL 4 big plates plus our 2 personal plates. Plus, as eat the yummy cold apps, the 2 pastas were getting COLD...bad & sad. Server seemed oblivious, food runners blinded & just dropping plates on the tables. Owners be aware.
excellent meal and great service.
Loved it!! Feels a bit like NYC. Great menu and wine list. Will be back!!
Delicious food, busy fun ambience. As a family of 4 foodies including 2 kids, we ordered several starters, a few pastas, and meatballs, then shared everything. Definitely the way to go. Favorites were the pear and hazelnut salad, seafood pasta, and meatballs. Yum.
The food was absolutely delicious! They have an excellent wine list and we enjoyed trying the orange wine. Mark the Manager has done a great job with everything- food, wine & service.
This Financial District restaurant has undergone some design and menu changes since it first opened, and while I think I liked the earlier design and menu better, this new incarnation doesn't disappoint. Dine here for sophisticated Italian food that's innovative, very well prepared, and of excellent quality. The night I was there the halibut was superb, and the cut was very generous. As a prelude to the meal, the beet salad was excellent and generous in size, in case you want to share it. The waiter was extremely helpful with his recommendations and efficient service. The ambiance has the urban feel of a New York hotspot, and the crowd appears to be fashionable and oozing the success and confidence of young executives on their way up.
Poor service. Reservation was basically a recommendation. We had to wait 20 min to get sorted.
Super noisy and crowded. Food is expansive and mediocre
Warm welcome charming service great food
Fabulous food, fabulous service...what a wonderful evening!
Excellent mushroom soup and citrus salad. The meatball and pasta dish was also great. The carbonara was quite good, but not the best I’ve ever had. Very tasty carrot cake. And the Ft. Point Red beer was perfect.
I was running late and called in and the host was super nice about it.
Overall I have had great experiences at Barbacco but not sure if they were just busy or if it was an off day. We had reservations for lunch and are not the most typical business types, we’re both young Hispanic women so not sure if that played a part. They sat us in the absolute back booth which is in of itself okay but our service was slow at best and we had to ask several times for items. The food was great not amazing but great and as we were celebrating that was totally okay. We got the bill and they charged us $11 for water, probably something they do to a lot of people to add $ to the bill. At this point we had asked so many times for things that we asked for the bill and left, it was just a mediocre experience at best due to the sub par service.
Great service and atmosphere. Food a bit overpriced for quality.
Came for my birthday dinner. The hostess and our server were excellent and made sure we had a great time!
Fantastic service and food. We ordered the linguine with seafood and the seared octopus appetizer - both delicious. Friendly staff and great ambiance for a date!
The restaurant was extremely underwhelming. Serving sizes are for infants and the food tasted like something tossed up with one hand and the other picking their nose.
I told our waiter all 3 of our entrees were extra salty, he seem to take that to offense. He said us Italians love tasty food, I said I do too, but this is salt with a side of food. He said you're the only one who said something tonight. We later asked the table next to us and they also agreed their food was salty, the waiter stopped in his footsteps too ensure he heard, then walked off. I will not return l.
Barbacco's menu has remained strong and steady for years, and the seared octopus is so delicious. So tender with the perfect char on the edges - and the beans and olives are so wonderful with it. Lovely pastas. We came to celebrate Valentine's Day and service seemed a bit overwhelmed, but overall good. The halibut was insanely salty but other than that, great dinner experience.
Vanlentine’s Day Date
Not only was our server wonderful, but the GM, Mark, was extremely sweet to have comp'd us our desert.
Wonderful Sat. night with friends!
Foot was excellent, nice place to be in San Francisco
It was a very uncomfortable/cold restaurant. You need a curtain block around the door.
Re:food - The Brussels were hella salty, the guancale was uncooked, and everything was a little off.
Great Bolognese sauce. Loved the whole experience.
A definitively go to place for a good time
The food was amazing, in addition to the service. Lunchtime is tricky because it gets so busy, so it can be a tight fit - hence, the 4 stars for ambiance
Fantastic! Can't wait to go back! Wait staff was very efficient and exceeding friendly and well trained. The food was yummy, the recommended wine perfect with our meal.
Even though we had reservations, we had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated. We were waited on immediately as we were seated at the counter.
My octopus appetizer was a bit chewy but flavorful. My friend’s Oso Bucco was pretty awful. She hardly ate any of it. My eggplant pasta dish was bland and in remarkable. Quite disappointing overall. We didn’t want to risk trying desserts.
Not sure of recommending to a friend. Food was creative and well prepared by the kitchen but waiter service was questionable. Though not crowded, we were treated as if they wanted to turn the table quickly. Appetizers were served and within a few minutes, the main course was also served.
Really not enough time to enjoy the experience when you are expected to consume appetizers simultaneously with the main course.
A little pricey for what we got. Service was lacking (had to repeatedly ask for bread and water) and even after we spent $250+ on four people and there were lots of empty tables, they were quite intent on rushing to get us out of there. Probably will not go back.
Food was good but service was very rushed- felt like they were trying to force us out of the restaurant
Nice venue, good and friendly service on a Friday evening before MLK weekend. Food left something to be desired: oxtail was tough and difficult to eat, and swordfish was flavorful but tiny. Server was excellent as was the wine list and atmosphere, but quality of food matters, and there are better and more well-rounded options at this price point, even in the Financial District.
Had the fish lunch special and a side of Brussels sprouts. Both were great.
Love this place. Will be a go to financial district location. Wonderful experience and love the personal touches by the staff and chefs. I would recommend this establishment to one person or a group of 8, intimate, warm and memorable.
We were seated right away. The servers were wonderful and very attentive. Food was excellent!!!
