Bar Mezzana is a coastal Italian Restaurant by Chef Colin Lynch at Ink Block in Boston’s South End, specializing in crudo and hand-made pasta. Signature dishes like chicken under a brick, Spanish octopus and orecchiette with sausage are instant classics. Seasonal dishes like fettuccine with lamb ragu and ricotta ravioli with wild mushrooms are new favorites. The crudo menu changes daily with local seafood - think Nantucket bay scallops and razor clams along with Japanese and European delicacies like shima aji and lubina. All are expertly prepared with bright touches of citrus, oils and salts.
Reserve the dining room for a family dinner or date night. Enjoy the bar and lounge for bar snacks, a great burger, and a Nightshift beer. Stop in for brunch on Sundays! The private dining room is available for a business meeting or intimate party for up to 12. Bar Mezzana is a neighborhood restaurant and bar with a thoughtful wine list, delightful cocktails, delicious food and friendly staff!

My friends and I chose Bar Mezzana because we had a gift certificate there and were so pleasantly surprised by the family style dining experience we decided to try! The dishes were diverse, colorful and absolutely delectable. We loved the whole experience and will definitely return.

Our mature server was wonderful, attentive, gave great descriptions, recommended an interesting spritzer in a can from Italy call Ramona, made with organic grapes from Sicily. The dates, nectarines, lamb chops and the duck egg raviola were fabulous...my husband liked his halibut, but not so much the accompaniments and the panna cotta was lack luster...too firm, in my travelled experience, a really good panna cotta is sublime and somewhat loose and room temp. This was very firm and cold...black walnuts were a little overbearing but the caramelized figs fabulous...could eat just those for dessert. We prefer more laid back and in the background music, not loud, with a heavy constant beat to it..that does distract from the food and see this comment in other reviews. Overall a great experience, would come back and would recommend. FYI, we are from Marthas Vineyard, not the New York Area, as the review states online...OT site has a glitch...cannot correct.

We sat outside because the indoor noise level was so bad. Outdoor heater did little to help when it got cool outside.
Food was goo not great or really interesting even tho it sounded so. Would not rush back

Girlfriend and I went here on a whim to celebrate a special night. We had no expectations. I had eaten here once or twice before and remember it being really excellent.

We went with the tasting menu. We weren't super hungry but our waiter assured us it wasn't a huge tasting menu but that we would be full. We were blown away by the quality of the food, the artful presentations and the service. We didn't do the wine pairings but we had two glasses each, recommended by our waiter, and they were on the money. The one quibble is our first two courses came out before our first glass of wine, but that wasn't a big deal. Just a little uncoordinated. Everything was great, including desert, and our waiter graciously gave us a round of complementary digestif, one I hadn't tried before, and it was fantastic.

Not sure if it was the lack of expectations or what but this was a top notch dining experience. I've done a few tasting menus and this ranks up there. Never felt rushed like I have with omkase in the past. My good tandaed for tasting menu is Cragie on Main in the Boston area and this stacks up. It's not quite as high brow but it's also less than an third of the cost of that menu.

Don't hesitate to eat here. What a great place. Can't wait to return.

I'm a big fan of Italian wine and crudo, so I was looking forward to dining here. The menu is a great - lots of options but not overwhelming. My husband is a vegetarian and there was plenty for him to chose from. Really well-edited wine by the glass selection, not just a bunch of standbys. Our server was lovely and had thoughtful suggestions. The lobster paccheri was delcious, as was my crudo dish. On the service end, they seem a bit understaffed, but we didn't have any problems. I'm looking forward to coming back!

Great place. Sat outside which was wonderful. Crudo platter was extremely fresh & excellent. Eggplant crostini was wonderful (and I do not like eggplant). Pea ravioli was perfect. Fresh peas & beans on top & very light. Definitely a great place to go.

Told a friend who Is foodie I was visiting Boston and he said not to miss Mezzana. He was so right! What a fabulous place. As appetizers we ordered the yellow tail and shima aji with caviar crudos and the chicken liver crustini...all outstanding! I had fresh made spaghetti with lemon and pepper which was out of this world. My husband had the halibut which he also loved. Can’t wait to go back and try some of the other interesting menu items. Also a very cool atmosphere. Try this unique, one of a kind restaurant. You won’t be sorry.

Spectacular crudo, buttery, delicious Brussels sprouts. My dining companions loved the ravioli and fusilli with fava. Excellent wines from a large selection.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The cocktails were delicious and the menu was full of great options. The standouts were the lamb chops and eggplant crostini, but we were disappointed in the freshness of the yellowtail in the crudo.

Bar Mezzana has become one of our favorite Boston dining spots since its opening. The menu, which changes frequently, offers a variety of creative and unique dishes while still remaining approachable. We like to order a variety of small plates and entrees to share in order to sample as many flavors as possible. We have yet to be disappointed by anything we've eaten. We always have one of the pastas, and our favorite main is the chicken under a brick. Absolutely fabulous! Great wine and drink list, amazing desserts, and attentive staff. Our meal took a bit longer than usual to arrive the other evening, and we were promptly informed by the server to save room for desserts which were on the house! For a fun, casual evening for two, I highly recommend sitting at the bar. Great atmosphere, and a very good bar burger!

Liked the restaurant a lot. Unfortunately they messed. Up 2 of the 4 orders. They responded extremely well and didn’t charge but it still took away from the whole dining experience as 2 people were almost done when the other 2 got their food

Located at Boston's Ink Block, at the South End. The food was great - the crudo appetizer was delicious. Good drinks and nice ambience. A very welcome presence in the neighborhood.

We were there on a Sunday evening and the place was packed. Is that why service was particularly slow? In any case, this needs some fine tuning.

Brunch pasta was food and so was the lettuce salad we enjoyed. The atmosphere at bar mezzana is just always off - either to bright or to minimal in feel. Makes time feel like a hotel lobby. While the food is good the decor leaves you wanting to just eat and go

We chose the sharing menu which had several decent sized courses, more than enough to share, with outstanding food. Every bite was delicious. We especially enjoyed the crudo dishes. The pastas were very good, two different kinds to share. Delicious desserts, again very good helpings. The service was very helpful, prompt and friendly in every way.
All in all a great experience, a great birthday dinner which we would gladly recommend to others!

Food was incredible as were the cocktails. We arrived just in time for their 'Tiwi Bird' — a tropical, passionfruit infused addition to the cocktail menu.

Seating was cozy once you sat, the only drawback here is the design of the restaurant. It's very open and no visual zoning. So when you're at the bar or tables at the back or front (less so the center) you feel as though you're in everyone's mix, compared to something like a barcelona that's open but uses design elements for a cozier vibe.

This could be a dope spot once it warms up—the windows were open but it was cold, and having them open and hot, will really transform the bar space—but without that, it just seems generic and a bit too open (even for a busy night).

Not sure we'll be back unless it's a hot summer night, but we'd definitely recommend it to others for the delicious food and cocktails.

While the food was pretty good (but overpriced), the service was impersonal and the noise (heavy bass music) was so loud that normal conversation was impossible and the overall experience was very poor.

If you have to go there, I'd favor the pasta which was nicely done.

On the other hand, go someplace else

From the warm welcome to the lively and delicious dining experience, this is one of the most creative restaurants in town. Beginning with arancini, and a ramp/ricotta crostini we thought it could not get better. But then came the artic char and paccieri with an amazing red wine and we were transported. Service is terrific and informative. A great place to visit on a regular basis. Bar seating both at bar and high tops also available.

The mushroom ravioli and lobster pasta were yummy, chicken under a brick was ok. Service was great and atmosphere was nice. The noise level was pretty loud, but my only real complaint was the limited choice of white wines by the glass.

We came for a birthday dinner. I had also come with a group previously. Both times - - Great food, terrific service - - the waitstaff is well versed in the wines and can capably steer you in the right direction. The menu had great variety, while not being overwhelming. The atmosphere was just right - - not too loud (you can actually have a conversation with your dining companions) and not sedate. Overall a great dining experience, and I'll look forward to visiting again.

My girlfriend and I thought that this was a delightful dinner spot. It felt like a small plates menu. We ordered the marintated olives, yellowtail crudo, chicken liver crostini, cucumber salad, and beef tartare. All were very good! We didn't order any drinks due to antibiotics but the non alcoholic drink Rasberry fizz. Left the restaurant very please and not overstuffed.
