love this place for drinks, don't recommend dining there!
Good food. Solid service. Bacon wrapped Brussels sprouts. Goodness. Bartender customized my cocktail with tequila rather than gin. Appreciated the personal attention as always.
This is a neighborhood gem. DJ was playing great music but way too loud for the small space. A few clicks down on the volume please. I'm not old and it was silly loud.
The staff were all super nice and very welcoming, but the service was soooooo slow. It's a busy place so to some degree that's just the nature of things, but the meal took 2 hours, which is a reallllly long time to sit on a stool if all you're really looking for is dinner. I would recommend this place more for people who are more focused on drinking and hanging out for a while versus having dinner.
It was a nice experience, we would definitely go again. Only thing we wish we would have known is there isn't really a dinner menu. They have oysters and a few small dishes/apps. Had a great time!
Bar Belly is a cozy venue with good drinks and small plates to share amongst a group of friends. However, there were several down sides. The service overall was just atrocious, waited almost half an hour just to get a menu. We then had to flag down the waitress every time we wanted to order another drink. Their happy hour specials were also very deceiving - I had confirmed their cocktail specials over the phone during my reservation confirmation, however were told to pay full prices upon arrival. ALSO, tip was already included in out bill, but the server did not mention this to us even once so we paid double the tip we would have. Very sketchy.
Service is spotty. They brought the oysters after the main dish, with a lame excuse.
Happy hour choices a bit too curated.
Main dish prices a bit high.
But go for the oysters and happy hour wine at the bar and enjoy the classic music; then skip somewhere else for the main fish.
I only went for drinks and they were on point! Great ambiance for drinks.
They had an issue with their seafood order so there was no seafood. Waiter was clueless, never said anything until after 45 minutes of us being there and now starving. So we decided to stay and had to make a dinner out of french fries, caesar salad and rice with mushrooms. No one offered us even a complimentary bottle of water for the inconvenience, let alone a drink. For 2 people with 3 drinks between us, bill still came to $90 each (including tip) and we were both starving and very unsatisfied.
Really more of a bar with food than a restaurant. The food is generally good, but with such a small menu it can be hard to find what feels like "dinner." For eating, I'd recommend the affiliated (?) Fat Radish across the street.
A great place for small bites and cocktails with friends, lovely live music and good crowd make for a nice vibe.
Amazing ambiance, music, and drinks. Will definitely return back
Lack of communication, twenty minutes we waited at the door being ignored by staff. When eventually staff began to notice, offered things and then dissappeared and never came back, staff too busy enjoying themselves on a busy night and ignored our booking. Not good enough, thankfully we ended up going to a great bar down the road where we got
exceptional service. Maybe they should pop down to them and learn a thing or two...very disappointed for a first time visitor to new york.
Great selection of oysters and live music... good times.
This is my second experience at Leadbelly for drinks and dinner. The ambience and food are wonderful - and while the staff is nice enough, service is extremely slow. Perhaps it's that there's only one bartender so the waitstaff is constantly in a holding pattern. Hopefully this changes over time, but I'll likely wait several months before returning.
If you like sitting on kids chairs and enjoy yelling at each other the Leadbelly is probably your place of choice. The jazz trio playing forced everyone to talk very loud. Apart from that the room has a nice vintage atmosphere. The oysters were okay if not extraordinary. Service was average. I expect to get a new glass with a new order of wine not just a refill especially after having oysters. All in all not a place I would revisit.
The evening was amazing and the oysters were perfect. Topped off with cocktails, that are worth the wait on a busy Friday, and you are in for a treat.
Not knowing what to expect - delighted to find a vibrant "out-of-the-way" watering hole filled with excited patrons. Delicious cocktails and bar food served dinner style. Friendly staff. Good-looking crowd. And a live band to kick-off energies into the night. Definitely recommend but reservations first - do not want to be the table right next to the live band as a crowd gathers around and it quickly becomes a bit crowded for the one table.
Nice selection of oysters, but every single one had shells in it-they don't know how to shuck. Kind of ruins the experience
Cocktails are amazing , great, personable bartender.
Bouncer outside a tiny Restauraunt seems odd
Friendly host. Service is continually terrible. Living down the street, I cannot begin to count the number of times I've had forgotten drink orders, excess charges at the end of meals, requests to order without a menu, late dinnerware, food ready at the wrong times. There's also that time when I was seated at a table for twenty minutes before being told the kitchen was closed due to an emergency.
Ambiance ambiance. Great food.
This is such a cute little spot with great small bites. Loved the Kale Salad and Truffle Fries and the ambiance was perfect. However, the service was mediocre. Our waitress was very nice but our order was messed up, had to ask for basic utensils for various things, there were bits of shell in multiple oysters, and on top of everything we were overcharged. This had the potential to be such a great visit but too many things went wrong.
The place is a total disaster. Ambiance is nice, though the music is super loud in a non-good way, the food is not bad but the service is a total disaster. The food comes from the fat radish across the street !!! And you have to wait literally an hour to get any food which you get lukewarm .....imagine a lukewarm burger! The waiter/manager really tried by giving us free stuff ...but it really didn't work!
They should really get their s*** together.
Fun atmosphere with a live piano bar. Great place for drinks, but the food was pricy for small portions.
Great food and drinks, lovely ambiance. The waiters were occasionally hard to flag down. But my, they were cute.
Highly recommended. The Leadbelly appears to be just another bar with oysters...but is much more. Yes, the cocktails are very well made! Yes, the oysters are fresh and very good! But the food in general is definitely much better than "just" bar food. The four of us went on a busy Saturday night - thankfully we had a reservation! - and stayed a few hours grazing on oysters, kale salad, cheese plate, shared a very good burger & a crazy-good crab gratin. Even dessert was excellent.
Service was solid and very attentive. Live music was really nice too.
We arrived around 8 and place was less than half-full...by the time we left at 10:30 it was packed with a bunch of folks waiting at the door! Definitely a hipster scene as it got later.
Came here for early drinks and dinner on a saturday night. They have oyster happy hour daily till 7pm. Oyster were great, very fresh. We were 6 so we ordered everything on the menu. Food was ok while scotch egg and bacon wrapped brussel sprouts stands out. Would recommend for pre or post dinner drinks.
Enjoyed the small plates and the drinks. Peter the mixoligist made me a great brand/scotch Hot Toddy that was perfect for the chilly night we went.
Food was delicious (the scotch egg!!), but our server was rude to us and ignored us most of the time. We were seated, despite having a reservation, at the tiniest little table in the world. Also, I have tried 3 times to get in and only with a reservation was I able to- there always seems to be a private party taking up the whole bar.
Drinks were pretty good and it was not so bad but be prepared to be treated like you don't really matter.
The service is spotty - I called ahead of time to see if they could book a place for 10+ people who would be arriving throughout the night for drinks. They said that I should just book a table for 6 which was the max through opentable and hopefully it won't be too busy so that if more people come by, they could pull up chairs. When I got there, they told me that if I wanted to have over 6 people, I should have reserved as there's a minimum per person (which I would not have minded - and which we fulfilled anyways). Ultimately they didn't really mind when we all gathered, and were willing to pull up chairs for all of us - but it was just annoying that their policy was not clear from the beginning.
The drinks are good - but there are lots of inventive cocktail bars around, and this was not particularly memorable. When I ordered the oysters, the waitress didn't know which oyster was which.
Dates love this place. The food is delicious. The lighting is a soft amber glow that accents the soft metal built ins that line the bar. They have the comfort food that girls like and the lighter dishes that I do... And a raw bar. The signature drinks are delicious. Upon leaving it feels like one has just undergone some type of soothing therapy that really sets a good mood for the rest of the night.
We Were a little bite désappointed about the quantity and thé prices of the food...
The oysters are not awsome and meals are really small.
