Enjoyed the offerings, presentation was excellent, wine selection good and service attentive. Lighting and temperature and atmosphere could have been better, to showcase the outdoors and location.
I was not st all happy with my dining experience, pork was so fatty, it was not fit to eat. The diver scallops were delicious, however, there were 3 on the plate and that was 31.00. Would not go back
Excellent food and service
we had a great experience, the service was very attentive and the food exceeded our expectations and the wine prices were not out of this world .... second time in a few months i have had the sea bass it great choice
I was happy with my cioppino but my wife’s noodles with her fish was too spicy. And the kids got Mac and cheese that really had no taste. But they are it and the dessert made up for the so so dinner.
Beautiful setting, looking out over the marina. We went for lunch on a Thursday and it was not very busy. Food was great!
Amazing ambience, live music was great, the bar section lots of fun but unfortunately food was so so my steak was cold and the waiter took for ever.
What an amazing find! Managed to come here for breakfast before dropping husband at airport. The place is just stunning! Great location, amazing ambience and styling. Food was outstanding, great coffee. King Harbour Benedict was amazing! Highly recommend making the effort for this experience.
Such a lovely warm and cozy environment. We went late so it was dark and the lights twinkled against the boats in the water. We met another couple and had a lovely dinner.
Food took a long time but otherwise it was great! Love the band and the bar. Brett George is awesome.
I went for Dine.LA lunch and it was excellent and a tremendous value---the lobster mac and hanger steak were perfectly done and very tasty.
Gorgeous light airy spacious restaurant right on a marina.
Service was great.
Very enjoyable. Nice ambience...very bright, nice decor. Did not have all the items on the menu. Loved their lunch combo...able to take different items. Very good clam chowder!
Their avocado toast was really good. My friends had eggs benedict which looked yummy.
Beautiful location, the breakfast was delicious. Very calm atmosphere
Outstanding dining right here in the South Bay! I usually venture out, but because of all the rains last week, and traffic..decided to dine here! Very friendly staff, outstanding views too! My friend & I ordered off the dine LA menu, best clam chowder ever! I had the hangar steak, grilled asparagus & potatoes. All was very tasty & refreshing. My friend had the fish & chips, very crispy red snapper, and the string fries infused with malt vinegar was beyond amazing! Besides the dineLA menu, we also tried the ahi taco appetizer, and tuna tartar, and cipano seafood soup. All of it was freshly made, and loaded with wonderful flavoring! I will def be back here soon, and I’ve also told a few friends about it too!
Our third time at BALEENkitchen, this time doing DineLA. Tremendous deal with DineLA - $36 of food for $20. Excellent fried calamari, but could use more sauce options.
Only complaint, and it's a pretty big one, is that the kitchen has a habit of overcooking meat. We had a hamburger and a hanger steak, both ordered medium-rare. Hamburger was (maybe) medium and hangar was medium-well. People at the next table had the same issue. One might think that the meat wasn't high quality if the kitchen was uncomfortable serving it undercooked. This also happened on our previous visit.
We will be back, but will be very emphatic about how we want our meat cooked.
We had the Dine LA menu. Duck confit- so good! Skirt Steak- seriously yum!!
Went here for New Years Day Brunch. Food was good, but not great. Cocktails over priced. Ambiance is good, with view of harbor. There was a super large party of 25 and it made the place super noisy and I found it annoying. We were staying at portofino so it was convenient but next time, I'll try somewhere else.
Food was overpriced. Service very slow. Great wine list. Nice staff. Very friendly atmosphere.
I took my girl here for NYE. It was my first time dining here. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The food was disappointing and not great. NYE was a fairly pricy price fixed menu. However, I didn't feel the food was worthy of the price charged. There was like 6 pieces of caviar on the appetizer. I had the duck which was pretty was very bland. My girl had the steak, not very flavorful. The desert chocolate cake was pretty good. The key lime pie was a disappointment.
Over all, I thought the service and staff was pretty good. I just thought the food was not all that great. Perhaps it was the holiday menu. I'm not sure. However, I felt I paid a fairly hefty price for NYE dinner for not a great meal.
The food was fantastic but the service was horrible. Drinks came after the food. Things were missing. The server never came to check on the table. Not worth going back as there are comparable restaurants that will serve patrons.
Excellent food and service
I am giving this 4 stars because the food and drink were outstanding, but it took forever to get them. After 45 minutes in a half full restaurant, we had only received 1 of the 3 drinks we ordered and the waiter had not been by to ask for our order. Finally we were able to catch the host's eye and he took our food order. We are local and have been here on many occasions, but found this quite unacceptable.
good food good service great and relaxing view
hidden unknowm gem
My Douth Bay go to for a casual but lovely meal. The bartenders are great, the servers are adequate and friendly- the hosts are generally clueless and the parking police will try to charge you $5.00 to park - resist.
You can’t beat the view and the food is truly good. This is a hidden little spot that I love.
We had dinner at the restaurant and then drinks in the lounge. Danced a little as well. Love this place and will definitely return. A little pricy but worth it!
Great place, right on the water. Good food & wine. Free valet parking!
We live locally, and Baleen has been a good standby nice dinner spot often overlooked. We went just before Christmas was a little noisy because of several Christmas parties. We had the Cioppino WOW, maybe the best we ever had.
Wow! The food was delicious. We ordered three small plates and a bowl of soup for dinner and everything was so tasty! I highly recommend the duck carnitas with seasonal blackberry sauce. Enjoy!
Thanksgiving at Baleen was excellent. Our only suggestion is that the music in the adjacent bar have lower volume. People on the end of the restaurant next to the bar (open walkway between -- essentially one great room) have difficulty hearing each other at dinner, and thus the necessity for them to shout carries all the way to the end of the restaurant. We had two dinners at Baleen Thanksgiving week, and sat on both ends of the restaurant. The food and ambiance was great, but the music in the bar was entirely too loud for either comfort or conversation.
I chose the short ribs for Thanksgiving. It was the worst short ribs I have ever had and the most expensive. I should have sent and don't know why I didn't. The meaty part of the short ribs was very tough and hard to cut. The fatty part was - well, fatty and inedible. The vegetables in the awful rib sauce were hard as a rock. The appetizer was just okay. The salad was good. The gelato was good; the pumpkin cheesecake wasn't. I was embarrassed I chose that place and apologized to my friends for suggesting it.
all of the staff was very attentive and the food was healthy and fresh
Nice ambiance. Good cocktails and wine list. Not a 5 star in my mind but definitely at least a 4. Food was good but didn’t blow me away and a little pricey. But convenient to Portofino and great service/staff.
There was an issue with my reservations but the hostess resolved it fast. We were able to meet in a quiet place to discuss our upcoming wedding at the Portofino. I didn’t catch the hostess’ name but she was great! Thank you!
Scallops were an epicurean delight. Wait staff attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wine. Only could be better if you could watch the sunset.
The food was good, the company great and the view serene -- however, the restaurant felt dirty. The table really sticky and the chairs filled with food. When we asked to have them cleaned, our server said, "now they'll be clean but wet." She did not think to dry them so we took chairs from another table. Asked for the manager -- he or she never came by our table. The last few visits, have been down hill -- really surprised, after the nice remodel that it feels so dirty and sticky.
Wonderful beachy-yet-elegant ambience. Service a little sketchy; altho there were numerous servers appearing busy on the floor, it took a while after we were seated before anyone came over to over drinks and again, it took longer than at most places for food to appear and finally for the check to be presented. The woman serving a maitre 'd was so kind: in order to avoid the parking fee on weekends, you must have a restaurant reservation. We had a reservation but didn't know it had to be made 24 hours in advance so it could be conveyed to the parking lot. The maitres 'd, was kind enough to run out to the parking lot to inform them just before we arrived that we shouldn't be charged.
