Your restaurant is not open yet it still takes reservations on open table. That is a major product failure - especially when making reservations on Valentine’s Day. Please fix your reservations system immediately.

Obviously it's hard to review a restaurant when all the guests have to sit outside due to COVID restrictions, and it's hard to get a true handle on service, food, and basically everything because life during these Coronavirus times are "iffy". However, that being said, I think it's incredibly brave to open a new restaurant during these times. Baja Norte far exceeded my expectations and I'm thrilled to have a delicious new menu to enjoy. I've heard complaints that the food was too expensive but my husband and I did not find that to be the case. I ordered the seabass tacos at $28 but it was a huge amount of food. There were 3 beautiful tacos overflowing with deliciousness; the seabass was abundant and not deep-fried like so many other places. It was lightly floured and seared so the outside was crisp but the inside was buttery. I could only stuff myself with 2 and no way could I have eaten the other items that came with my order. We also had the guacamole - perfection, and I don't know if the chips are homemade but they are delicious. My husband loved his carne asida tacos and we started with the chorizo quesadilla and I thought my husband was going to drink the entire bowl of salsa. But drinks - this is the same owner who had the Rebecca's restaurant in Venice back in the '80s and they have the same oh-so-famous margaritas. So, yeah.....GREAT margaritas. Service was attentive and friendly and we left feeling content in every way.

Apparently in response to the pandemic or possibly to their traditional business just falling off, they opted for a "faux" south of the border menu. It was a failure. Everything is a taco. The $30 plus lamb taco was 3 street tacos with, possibly, three teaspoons of lamb in each. It took 15 minutes from ordering to getting a martini, with two attention getting waves to the server. Not worth it.

Well, it's probably unfair to review during a pandemic opening with only a few tables on the sidewalk out in front...BUT, as very long-time Brentwood Restaurant supporters and neighbors, we are thrilled to say that our experience tonight was as good as we could possibly imagine. From the reminiscent Rebecca's margaritas, through the perfect tortilla soup and incredibly fresh and tasty tacos (we tried duck, chicken and carnitas,) this is SoCal Mexican food at its very finest. Topping it off was the sentimental rigatoni, a Brentwood favorite, now made with chorizo and truly outstanding by any measure. Lots of fun, tremendous food presented beautifully, and a star in the making. We miss The Brentwood terribly, but we miss a lot of familiar things right now and at least we can all look forward to Baja Norté.

As someone who was a regular at the brentwood, I was looking forward to the brentwood reopening. however, the Brentwood has closed and reimagined into Baja Norte, sadly, I would NOT recommend it. Went last night on the first night back (I know that they likely have kinks to work out) and had high hopes that the food would be just as good as it was when it was the brentwood. It is not. I was very disappointed. I ordered chicken tortilla soup, it had zero flavor, I sent it back and ordered the hamburger, they had no cheese, the burger was not great, lacked flavor as well and was missing half of what it was supposed to come with. My husband got carnitas tacos and what he got was pork belly tacos, some yellow rice with peas and carrots. oh and we had chips and guac, the chips were good, the guac was creamy and could have been squeezed out of a bag. It was meh. What is most disappointing is that none of the previous staff is back, and there seems to be no plans to have them back. My experience was very disappointing and it is highly unlikely that we will go back.

We ordered an artichoke app. We didn't get the whole artichoke but 2 hearts cut up with sauce on the side and the charge was $21!!! Spoke with the manager who was understanding and allowed us to send back at no cost. Firstly, that is a ridiculous amount of money for what they serve and rude and secondly, customer service should have been that the manager gave us the app at no charge (not that we were looking for free food) in order to placate the guest and tell them that they will speak with the owner (who he said sets the prices) about the price. Artichokes cost less than a dollar. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very accommodating.
