I have never been to a place we're the atmosphere was as Beautiful and the wonderful people that work there. I was greeted at the front when I walked in. You can smell the food from the street. My mouth was water as I was seated I could wait to just dive in and eat. I order the salmon and when I say that first bite. I literally melted in my chair.
The rest is history..
I can't wait to go back

Try the lobster salad. I hope with the changes that have occurred that they will keep this incredible offer. It has more delicious lobster than I have ever seen in a salad. The lobster fries are also good. I was disappointed in the lobster pasta dish that was priced at 60.00. Too much work for the little reward of lobster meat.

In all an excellent experience.

The maitre d and the decor were the most redeeming qualities.
The waitress discouraged us from several dishes on the menu....
The service was less than attentive. We were filling our own wine glasses throughout the meal.
Our appetizer came out cold - twice....(They did however comp us dessert as a gesture. )

We were excited and optimistic about this restaurant based on the listed menu and previous reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the whole experience.

Really enjoyed our dinner. Lobster fries, duck rangoon, swordfish, and, the best fish I've had in a while: chilean sea bass. Wonderful meal. Try to get a table in the wine room. Cozy.

The ambience of the restaurant is romantic and quaint. However, it is a bit too dark. It was difficult to read the menu given the low lighting.

We started with the oysters trio and the prons. The three oysters were flavorful, including One that had buffalo sauce and cheese. The dish was excellent. However, the prawns come in a sauce base with Everclear liquor which was significantly strong and over powered the taste of the prawns. In addition, the prawns were served with the head and body which was traditional. However, the tail meat was not significantly larger than any other jumbo shrimp. This dish was definitely the worst of the night. I then had the lobster pasta which consisted of a full split stuffed lobster on top of linguine pasta. The pasta was way too much for the amount of protein, overwhelming the amount of lobster present. My wife had the Chilean sea bass which she thought was good but not great. We also had duck Rangoon which was very flavorful, as was theDipping sauce that came with it. However, we could taste no duck within the filling. Finally, we finished with the mocha cake dessert which was chocolatey, flavorful, with a crispy crust and an excellent dish.

To the restaurant’s credit , they removed the prawns from our Bill, although only after a reminder. We later spoke with the management who truly seemed eager to find out how the meal could have been improved. I would be willing to try the restaurant again. I should say that I think they should have a few more seafood entrées available than that notedFor a seafood specialty restaurant. However, the mixologist was clearly skilled and clever in the mixed drinks that were offered.

The food runner and the hostess were great. However, our waiter left a lot to be desired. He was far too casual for an upscale environment. And when I asked if I could submit salmon for scallops, he said the chef would refuse to do that unless i had a food allergy. So I said well i have a food allergy then. And he refused to ask the chef if he could make an exception. For the price of this place, it’s ridiculous that the waiter wouldn’t try to make their customer happy. He then hardly ever came back by and the food runner ended up basically being our waiter. We were so excited to try Bait but the waiter really put a damper on our experience.

Loved it! Everything was outstanding. Open table however, did not allow me to make a reservation for 3 people. I called Bait to tell them I have 3 rather than 2. They didn't answer. When we got there we had to wait because the restaurant is so small there way no a bigger table available. Be careful about you reservations.

The Chilean sea bass was one of the best tasting pieces of fish I’ve had in 20 years. Excellent. The cocktails are exquisite. Menu is wonderfully fish focused but had steak options. Prices towards the higher side but worth the whole experience as the customer service is absolutely superior

Bait transcended my expectations. I took my girlfriend here on a date and we were seated immediately. The menu offered a wide array of appealing options and it took me quite some time to narrow it down to one selection, which ended up being the Caribbean Red Snapper. It was delicious. My only issue with the entire meal was that my rice was cold, which was disappointing since there was a significant amount of it on my plate. The fish was cooked perfectly. My girlfriend ordered the stuffed lobster pasta and raved about it. We will he coming back.

The service was poor. It was our waiter's first night and apparently he lacked the necessary training to be a server. For some reason he thought we wanted to split our entrees. Our appetizers arrived in a reasonable amount of time but the main dishes didn't arrive for at least 30 minutes. He was polite though and apologized. We also had to request our check. He didn't even offer a dessert menu.

I think the prices were too high. I ordered the sea food fettuccine and only received 3 shrimp and 1 scallop and very little crab meat. It was delicious but over-priced.

We went to bait as a table of two. We made reservations and the table was set and ready when we walked in. The hostess was great and the manager slash host who was at the front door was fantastic. He checked up on us a few times and was all about making our experience fantastic. We are both vegan and our server was able to guide us to some vegan options. The setting was cute and cozy. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Was reminded before we showed up that if we were five minutes late they would give the reservation away because this restaurant is so popular. However, I got NO notification that 1/3 of the menu would be unavailable because they had some refrigeration problems, (even tartar sauce was not available). We ordered four appetizers, three were mediocre including cold, hard carrots. The brussel sprouts were tasty except for also cold. The flaming prawns were very disappointing one of the four shells had no shrimp in it at all. Server forgot one of our drinks for 20 minutes. Three different bottles of sparkling wine were not available, we finally settled on the fourth. “Elevated” fish and chips were sad, over-breaded and tasted frozen. The seafood boil was greasy, over-cooked and had lots of empty crab shells. Lobster roll was all bread. I could go on. Then the bathroom .... dirty, blinds were too small for the window and people could see in from outside, trash on the floor, electrical issues and just gross. The building is old and could have charm but is in dis-repair. Entrance door had a hole where the lock used to be. Have lots of photos but will literally never return. Cannot believe St Louis Magazine gave this place a great review and prominent article. Oh, and was over $100 a person with all in. Should have gone elsewhere. ... and to complete the review - unfortunately, three of the four of us got sick overnight.

Boasting a upscale interior design and relationships with local farms, Bait promised to be the chic upscale seafood restaurant we were searching for. We were disappointed, however, with our overall experience. Service, while friendly, was inattentive and lacking for a restaurant of this caliber. Our appetizer/small plates were very good, with the mussels being the star of the evening. The seafood boil was underwhelming. Cocktails were generous well flavored. We would try visiting again in warmer months to try appetizers and drinks on the lovely front patio.

The food was absolutely outstanding and we'll definitely eat at Bait again. Although the website for the restaurant indicated the availability of valet parking, the restaurant has neither a parking lot nor valet service, an unexpected annoyance on a rainy night.

From entering the restaurant to leaving less than an hour later, this was easily one of our worst STL dining experiences. The host told us our table was not the best, the waitstaff was slow, bus service clunky, etc. The food was fine, but not worth the price given everything else.

Our server was friendly and competent, but was trying to service a lot of tables. Oyster app: 2 out of 3 oysters were not separated from the muscle and way over-dressed; the description on the menu sounded like there would be a simple topping on them, but that was not the case. The seafood chowder was described as having shrimp, crawfish, corn and potatoes. My serving had no crawfish, both dishes had 2! shrimp. Noise level was very high. Timing of courses was way too fast and the food runner didn’t know who ordered what. After all the positive press this place has received, we expected more and were very disappointed.

Very good food, excellent drinks, great service as well. The only thing I would recommend is putting some type of sound absorbency as there was a louder group in the open room next to us which made it difficult for me to have a conversation at my table. Aside from that I really enjoyed myself, the food, and ambience. I would highly recommend!!

To make sure you don’t have to wait, make a reservation. The food was exceptional, service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was perfect. Bait is good for any occasion. We went out for a couples night with some close friends. Noise level was appropriate. It was not to loud so we were able to converse. My wife had the swordfish which she said was the best she has had, flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the snapper. This will be one of my favorite dishes. Flakey, soft, and well seasoned. Try anyone of their cocktails, I think between the 4 of us we had each of them. Our service was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

This was our first time at Bait and it was a good one. The food and drinks were amazing. The lobster fries ... to die for. We had the sea bass and salmon entrees which were very good. A little too much sweet potato mashed under the salmon, but delicious. The cheesecake parfait for dessert was perfect. The only “negative” would be our table location, which was in a cramped corner. I requested a better table than that but It’s not a deal breaker :). Overall a great dining experience. Feels like someone’s home (which it was in another life)

The seafood is beyond delicious. Presentation exquisite. Service superior. It has moved to the top of my list of 5 Star Restaurants in St. Louis. I have already recommended it to my “foodie friends.” Make your reservations early because their seating reaches capacity quickly even on week days.

The food was good but this place is on the expensive side so we expected decent service. The service was clueless. The waiter would disappear for long periods of time. It took forever to get drinks. I asked for a tall glass for my drink but it arrived in a short glass. I could not find him to ask for lemon for my entree so I caught the eye of the bartender who came over and I requested lemon.

He returned to the bar area and never came back. I watched him. So I went up and asked him and he lamely said that he wasn't my waiter. Then why agree to get me the lemons? It was so lame.

We told the waiter the service was lacking so he half-heartedly apologized as he was dropping the check. Then we reminded him that we asked for separate checks and he had not done that. It was like they were all in their own world. Take a pass on this place. The food was good but not THAT good.
