Welcome to BEHIND. We are an intimate 1 Michelin star fish-focused tasting menu restaurant run by chef Andy Beynon. Situated on the edge of London Fields, Hackney, BEHIND has 18 kitchen-table seats for lunch and dinner sittings, as well as a relaxed wine bar.

BEHIND is Andy Beynon’s first restaurant, opened in October 2020. After just 20 days’ trading it was awarded its first Michelin Star. Andy spent 15 years working in some of the best Michelin star restaurants in the country, including with chefs Claude Bosi, Phil Howard and Michael Wignall.

    This year, Maison Krug has chosen carrot as the humble ingredient for the 11th chapter of their ‘Krug in the Kitchen’ dinner series. Inviting seasoned chefs from around the world to unleash the full force of their creativity and craftsmanship on this unassuming but multifaceted vegetable, Andy will join this year’s chef lineup with a very special tasting menu and pairing of vintage Krug Champagnes. The special edition blind tasting menu will capture the essence of carrot, explored through a series of thoughtful dishes, composed around day-boat fish and shellfish sourced from British shores. In keeping with BEHIND’s distinctive approach to seasoning, which relies on the natural flavours in kelp, seawater and sea vegetables, Andy will distill versatile flavours and textures of carrot, to honour Krug’s age-old belief in the transformative power that one ingredient can hold. Tickets are now available to purchase via OpenTable for just one 7pm sitting. For £290pp (excluding service) tickets will include the full tasting menu and a selection of vintage champagnes including the Krug Grande Cuvée 173ème Édition and Krug Rosé 29ème Édition.

    A difficult meal to review, because there was so much going on with a 10-course tasting menu. On the one hand, some dishes were truly memorable, such as the monkfish and the homage t a croissant. On the other hand, some were a tad middling, for example the strawberry desert. I am personally a huge strawberry desert connoisseur, but in this case the flavours were lacking and there are simply better ways to make strawberry deserts. The lunch was incredibly expensive, and whilst I could see the chef’s creativity on full display, I was left peckish after lunch which, for over £350 for 2 people, was quite surprising. Some dishes could be 10-20% larger, which would allow one to enjoy the flavours more, and would do the essential job of filling me up. Overall, a memorable experience, but probably not worth what it costs.

    We had an amazing experience dining at Behind. The serving staff are also the chefs and are so helpful and informative. Then the food … just incredible. Simply that. And the wine we chose - was advised on - was delicious also. Can’t fault it at all. 1 Michelin star well deserved.

    Some of the tastiest food we’ve had in a long time. The crab custard was phenomenal and the scallop. Service was amazing as well, so friendly and accommodating. The experience was so relaxed which can be rare with tasting menus.

    A marvelous and delicious luncheon served by a modest brigade punching well above their weight, sumptuous sauces and elegant fish cookery Neptune would delight of. Accommodating of my tardy guest and far far more enjoyable than a good many multi starred establishments I visited during my brief sejourn this week past in London… A special note to the charming and passionate sommelier, a finely chosen wine pairing indeed.

    Really well put together menu and food was excellent. Friendly and relaxed ambience. Reasonably priced for the quality- much better value than many similar restaurants. Only suggestion would be to have more drink options for those who don’t drink alcohol- some interesting non alcoholic cocktails would have a great addition.
