B&B Butchers & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We ordered Wagyu skirt steak, chicken and the Chilean sea bass along with a side of sizzling bacon and grilled asparagus. The steak, chicken and bacon we're brilliant. The sea bass itself was grilled perfectly but it came with couscous which was supposed to have basil pesto but there was no pesto in my dish. The entire dish lacked in flavor. The asparagus was not fresh at all.
My son ordered key lime pie for dessert which was excellent. The service was perfect.
After hearing good reviews about B&B, while waiting for the hype to die down, we were excited to try this Houston Steakhouse. WIth so many worthy competitors, we were disappointed in our experience at B&B. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgable but very over tasked with more tables than he could handle. Service was extremely slow as a result, especially for a half full restaurant. Food quality was average at best and our steaks were lacking flavor. I can grill a better steak but it is good to know there are plenty of other steakhouse options in Houston. Sides were average at best. When the wedge salad bacon is the best part of your meal, try somewhere else for the money spent. Not worth a return or a recommendation.
I came here for the first time with a few friends because we wanted a steak night. We could not have had a better time. Our waiter was absolutely excellent--funny, attentive, very knowledgeable, and made great recommendations. Everything from our appetizers (crab stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon) to the wagyu filets to the ribeye to the sides to the wine to the desserts were incredible. A versatile spot for business, date night, friend's night out or grabbing a drink at the upstairs bar. The evening wasn't cheap but it was well worth it and would definitely come again!! Thank you for an all-around great evening, B&B!!
The steaks are second to none. The service is lacking! If you show up slightly early and you take a seat at the bar, be prepared to take care of your tab before you head to your table with your drinks. Our first visit was for a birthday, and don’t think they’ll make it special for you. We weren’t even wished a happy birthday. For what your paying to eat, they should be bending over backwards! They do make a mean steak though! LOL!
Any place that has bacon as an appetizer is golden in my book and B&B didn’t disappoint! Don’t miss the carpetbaggers either! The dry aged steaks were delicious, as was the Mac and cheese. Our waiter, Aaron, said he’d only been there two weeks but you’d never know. He was knowledgeable and his timing with everything was spot-on. I would highly recommend.
We were greatly looking forward to dining at B&B, as we had heard great things about the food; however, the entire evening left much to be desired. We made a reservation for 8 (arriving at 7:50), and were not seated until 8:45. At 8:30 when I went to inquire about the status of getting seated, the host staff was curt, unhelpful, and offered no estimate on further wait time/apology for delays. The bar/entry way was packed (about 40 people standing- as all the seats in the area/at the bar were filled as well) with food carts frequently pushing through the crowd to access the elevator- also in the crowded entry way. After finally getting seated, we tried to order 2 different glasses of wine from the menu, which we were informed that they no longer carry. We ordered one of the steaks medium rare- and it was cooked rare (matching the other rare steak-same cut of meat- that we had ordered) with a cool center; which was fine- but disappointing as we thought- if nothing else, hopefully the steaks would live up to the strong recommendations that we had heard. To top it off, at the end of the evening, when we received the check, there was a $125 bottle of wine added to the bill, that we did not order. This was reconciled after I had to point it out to the waiter, but it just added to the overall feeling of disappointment and disarray experienced throughout the evening. No one of these events/errors was awful or aggregious by any means; but the combination of everything, especially without apology or explanation from any staff member throughout the evening, left much to be desired for our first, and likely only B&B dining experience.
Positives. Noise level was such that you could actually hold a conversation. Most of the food was good/ very good quality and cooked well ( but see below). Service was fine.
Negatives. We were a little hemmed in at our table. We had a broccoli side dish which I rated as inedible. No idea what you could do to broccoli to make it so. My steak was ordered as medium rare and I'd say it was more like medium. Not a huge problem as I'm fine with either . They have a few menu items with thick cut bacon. I had this included with the starter and in some mac n cheese. I thought the bacon was all a little tough as if slightly over cooked. Not terrible- just not great.
Am only offering slightly more nuanced comments as this isn't a cheap place (400 for 3 of us including one bottle of an inexpensive wine, a shared dessert and some of the less expensive ( relatively!!) entrees).
Overall it's a good place to eat steak but whether it's really value for that amount of money I'm not so sure having eaten similar meals around the world for less.
The service was not great for our experience. The server forgot our order and had to come back and ask what we ordered 20 minutes later. My wife ordered a salad and it was never brought out, she had to remind the waiter and he brought it out with the main course because he forgot. The lack of attentiveness from our waiter led to an overall poor dining experience.
Since B&B's opening I have been a big fan. Ben Berg's ability to obtain remarkable cuts of beef and his attention to detail simply can't be matched in the Houston market. This is a steak-centric dining experience that rivals anything in NYC or Vegas. Not only a fine eatery, B&B's bar is on point. I have drank Screaming Eagle and creative St. Patrick's Day concoctions that surpass many of the "craft drink" bars I frequent. This evening, I was with my wife and a new employee who we were introducing to the "best" Houston has to offer. Ben recommended the off-the-menu veal parmesan which was remarkable. Rico did a fine job of meeting our needs without being overly intrusive -- a B&B strength. Had a Pinot by the glass that was well-suited for my meal. All-in-all, another great dining experience that I have come to expect at B&B.
This place simply rocks. We visited on New Years Day. I didn’t know what Wagyu was when I walked in the door, but it is arguably the best steak I’ve ever eaten. The sliced bacon appetizer with blue cheese and the baked Brie appetizer were delicious. The waiter gave an excellent wine recommendation. I would give more than five stars if I could!
We got there about half an hour before our reservation, had a drink at the bar and were seated in a timely fashion. The hostesses and bartender were very polite.
We were sat on the roof top, which had been tented off and filled with space heaters. We were packed pretty tight in a corner. It was New Years Eve, so I understand they were trying to seat as many people as possible. By the end of our meal, we got pretty cold sitting out there.. It was New Years Eve and the place was packed, what are you doing to do? Anyway, those negative are why I only give ambiance 3 stars. I'm sure on regular nights it's a lot nicer, when they don't have to pack people in like sardines on a rooftop when it's 40 degrees outside.
For an appetizer we got the Wagyu carpaccio which was very good. For an entree, I got the dry aged bone in rib eye, which I liked. My wife got the Texas Wagyu fillet which was amazing. The highlight was the Macaroni and Cheese with bacon. The best mac and cheese both me and my wife have ever had. For desert, we had the cheesecake which was okay.
The service was good. I worked in the restaurant business for 5 years, as a waiter and a manager, so I understand how hectic things can get on an event night like New Years Eve. We asked for half and half onion rings and fries with our meal. They never came out, so we asked about them. They brought us out steak fries when we were about 3/4 of the way done with our meal. We didn't even want them at that point. We should have said something, but we didn't.
Overall the experience was great. I rank B&B in the top tier of Houston steakhouses. Well worth the money. Great place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday. Highly Recommended.
This was our second visit to B&B. Both special occasions (wedding anniversary and, New Year’s Eve). And, will say that, without a doubt, B&B is now our favorite, special occasion restaurant. With high quality, deliciously prepared, beautifully presented food and, friendly, impeccable service, they have set the bar high for the Houston area. We will be back agin soon!
Our overall our experience was great! Service was attentive and the food was fantastic. The only criticism I have is the bread basket was taken away to soon. We had coffee after our meal, and I would have liked to have tried the cinnamon muffin that was left.
