Greta provided superior service. Food was excellent
We always the food and service there. That’s why we go so often.
I had the New York and a lobster tail. My date had the cioppino . Both of our meals were scrumptious and my steak was perfectly cooked. The service was EXCEPTIONAL! Axel’s never disappoints!
We had an enjoyable time, although my wife’s walleye was not fully/properly cooked.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Axel's. Everything was perfect. The waitress was attentive, the drinks and food were wonderful.
Had the All-You-Can-Eat Crab. It was excellent! Looking forward to coming back again.
Axel’s never disappoints. There were four of us in our party- everyone’s food was perfectly prepared, and the service was exceptional. We enjoyed scrumptious food and outstanding service!
Great atmosphere for a nice date. Service was outstanding. We had the steak and prime rib and they were both very good. The Alfredo potatoes were tasty and a nice twist on potatoes. However, they, along with the mashed potatoes, were a bit on the salty side (still tasty though). The French Onion soup was terrific. Finally, the pop-overs were also great. The cinnamon butter makes it even better. The Mint Martini really packed an alcohol punch, but it is a martini after all. I would recommend Axels for a nice date or for a celebration, but it isn't a place I would go very often, only because it is pricey and there are so many other places to experience. Enjoy!
Went to celebrate my 50th Birthday. Arrive 10 minutes before our reservation and they seated us right away. Service was very good. Our waitress was great. My kids loved the tablecloths because they could color on them. Appetizers came out quickly. Salads came out shortly after. I ordered the prime rib and my wife ordered the filet. My prime rib was under cooked but still edible. My wife's filet was good except the last few bites were all fat. Kids had the burgers and chicken strips which wasn't anything special. All in all it was a good experience however a little pricey for what we got.
Axel's has the best all you can eat crab in the cities. The service is always great and the food is amazing. The crab is always done perfectly. My only complaint is they give too many great side dishes! The soups and sides are so good that you have to know to save room for the crab. We love coming here, as it is always a great dinner and experience.
Nice ambience. Historic location. Quite enough to encourage conversation.
Just fantastic service
My family had a wonderful time
I used to live in Eagan, so would visit axels often. Now I live 200 miles away, and visit axels when I’m in the twin cities. I miss the food and atmosphere.
We are Axel’s regulars... we visit for special occasions with our family. Tonight we had a couple of hours with our son who lives in Sitges Spain. He had a layover and Axel’s is a perfect 8 minute drive to MSP airport. We had a great meal and visit with our son... and, his youngest sons name? Axel!!
My friends and I like to eat here because we like the Dark wood ambiance and the old world feeling. The service is always good. The wait staff write their name on the white tablecloth. So good for us older folks who do not remember names ! Monica was a wonderful wait person!!!! She anticipated our needs, she was there whenever we needed something ! Our food was very good. Our service was exceptional. We will come again !!
Greta is the best server. Offers personalized and friendly service.
The prime rib was very tough and a little overcooked. At a pricier place, I tend to expect they know how to cook things really well so, that was a bit disappointing. All in all though, it’s a nice restaurant and has good ambiance.
Food was great. Prices were reasonable. Service was good, but not over the top great.
We weren't able to go out on Valentines Day so we went on Saturday instead. Both my husband and I enjoyed our dinners. Twin lobsters and Prime Rib.All of our dinner was very delicious. Much as we wanted to we couldn't eat any dessert that night so we ordered the bread pudding to take home.We so enjoyed it.
The waitress we had was excellent.A true people person who knew everything there was to know about the menu and restaurant. She told us how to warm up the bread pudding and the order to put all the topping on. Id say she went above and beyond. the food was excellent but the service was fantastic thanks to our waitress
Fantastic food and service. Jordan was super friendly and relatable.
Generally I love Axels but on VD we were put in an overflow area that was very tight and difficult for servers to reach without bumping into chairs. The Ribeye was horrible. Overcooked and way too fatty. Half of it was inedible because it was solid fat.
Dined for Valentine’s Day so not going to be overly critical. Place was packed, reservation was at 8 and we showed early. We were sat right after talking with the hostess. Unfortunately our server took a bit to greet us, which is understandable. My old fashioned took a little longer then usual. The popover/bread service was fantastic, we both had Caesar salads which were light and not too fishy. We were pointed at the special menu but nothing was talked about so we barely glanced at it. We both had steaks and were cooked to perfection. Dessert was a real treat as well, vanilla bean cheesecake was to die for. Price was very affordable for a higher end atmosphere and culture.
Family dinner for Valentine’s Day! Had a lovely time. Always on point.
Host team of college students were delightful and most accommodating! We had the Elderflower Martini and it was amazing along with the filet mignon, done perfectly, and I loved their hand-dipped coconut shrimp entree- shrimp were large and the sides were so tasty- most delicious green beans I had ever had! They were the haricot vert type so longer and thinner served in a teriyaki glaze and with wild rice- so yummy! The only surprise was when we asked for a loaded baked potato it came plain with a side of sour cream that had the chives and bacon in it mixed together so no cheese, but it was still good. We loved the dark clubby charm of the atmosphere, pretty bar and antler chandeliers with red shades and dark wood paneled walls. There was a fireplace in the other dining room but we sat in a lovely open booth in the middle of the dining room- perfect for 2 people. Emma our server was great, attentive and cheeful. We have since recommended to our friends and will definitely be back- we loved it! Older crowd for the most part.
Drove an hour there specifically to get ciopinno and they ran out. No discount on meal, no dessert nothing. Husband order two lobster tails and they were so small. Left hungry, Not a good value.
Entrees were excellent. You cannot go wrong with their Walleye or the parmesan risotto. Crab cakes were good but a little dray. Service was ok but not exactly the best. Our waitress seemed a bit over whelmed and did not know the food when asked about a couple different items. Will go back eventually.
Our fist visit on Valentine's Day Anniversary. Loved the ambience with both open and intimate dining spaces. Our waitress Rachelle was friendly, energetic & efficient. Great variety of food choices. Every course was delicious. We will be back regularly!
Susie and I celebrated Valentine's Day at Axel's. The food was great, the service was great, and the atmosphere was great. They had a violin player playing to the crowd. We really enjoyed our time at Axel's. We'll be back.
Always great food & service. Unfortunately, we were in the side room surrounded by two large, very loud parties.
Crabby Tuesday is a wonderful time. The price has gone up quite a bit over the years, but they never disappoint on the all you can eat crab and they’re always packed (make a reservation). As usual Greta is still my favorite server. She is so friendly and remembers a lot of her regulars! =)
I love the ambiance and food; cocktails are good too.
My steak was average for a chophouse, nothing interesting on the plate, just average. My dates dinner was a complete mess. It was a Friday so we had the primary kitchen staff.
She had the risotto with shrimp and scallops - the "risotto" was long grain rice cooked normally with some type of sauce poured on it, moreover, there were clumps of undercooked (not al dente) rice with no sauce (not that risotto should have sauce). The shrimp were so overcooked they became rubber. The scallops were cooked properly.
Avoid this place, there are so many better places, especially in this price range. I am not sure how their rating is this high - I can't believe anyone would give this place anything more than a 3 star at best.
We had reservations for 3, checked in when we arrived and a large party arrived soon after. We were overlooked and were not seated for 20 minutes. When our meal came one person in our party ordered their filet steak well done and another ordered their sirloin rare. The steaks were swapped. Service was terribly slow; our reservations were at 6:30 and we did not leave the restaurant until 9:25. Witnessed other tables that were seated after ours that received their food and checks much faster than us. Unacceptable overall.
Lunch between two old friends.
Had a reservation and was seated 15 minutes after that was up. It wasn’t a major deal but the hostess staff was not at all concerned. The manager came up at one point and could tell we were waiting and sped things up. Everything just took awhile. My old fashioned was too sweet but other than that, our server was awesome, steak was cooked to rare, which doesn’t always happen a lot of places and their mushrooms were great. Just need some management in the busy times.
Axel's never disappoints. It's our favorite Friday night go to! Our meals were scrumptious- I had the New York and my friend had the Cioppino. Both meals were outstanding. Our service was exceptional. The staff at Axel's always makes us feel SO welcomed and they take such great care of us. We LOVE it there!
Great supper club atmosphere. Excellent service and quality food.
Wonderful birthday celebration! The crab legs were perfect. Our only "disappointment" was that we indicated in Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday, and our server never mentioned it or asked at all. We had been hoping for a birthday dessert to share, but it turns out we didn't need it, as we were stuffed after dinner!
Invited a few friends out for my birthday. Nice atmosphere and awesome service. Will def be back. It was my first time there and I was not disappointed.
