Axels is by far our favorite restaurant. The food is incredible, service is delightful and atmosphere is calm and peaceful. Reminds me of the good old fashioned high end supper clubs. We will be using their take out on Friday-Sunday until we can dine in again!
Great local place for birthday dinner. We requested and sat in the bar area booths. It was a little loud from another group but better loud than silent. Excellent steaks as always.
I had not been to Axel’s in several years and am so happy we decided to go there for dinner! What a delightful experience, food and service was outstanding. Felt very comfortable with safety protocols. Great Value of the lobster special and dinners, fun to get the popover. Will definitely return in the near future, thank you!
First and last time visit. We had reservations and were sat at the bar in a booth. Football on all the screens and some music playing. Place lists itself as an upscale restaurant and that is NOT the case at all. False advertising. This is an Applebee's with darker floors and lighting. Blue jeans, baseball caps and a dog.
Service was slow, despite many open tables. Had to flag the server down multiple times. Ambience was ok. Social distancing, not so much, and pretty much in direct violation of state guidance/laws.
French onion soup was fine. Salmon dinner was larger portion that was fine. Filet was absolutely terrible and was not cooked to the right temperature at all. Sent it back and not much better. Took it home for the dog.
It was fine but not as good as I remember given the price.
One of our first solo dates after we had our baby. It was just what we needed.
Food was excellent and service was amazing. Went for the Friday fish fry which was a great value and extremely tasty.
Unfortunately, we may be forced to take axels off of our list of options for now. They aren’t offering a safe environment to take your family to eat during this pandemic. We witnessed many patrons walking through the restaurant without masks, very large parties of people sitting in the middle of the restaurant, and honestly they seemed to be filled close to capacity. This really disappointed us, axels is super convenient and we love the staff. This establishment has always had management challenges through the years. We hope to visit them again soon, when we feel it’s safe again.
Just terrible food. Under cooked, no flavor, and took what felt like forever.
Potatoes very cold but was told its super cold. Could place finger inside and was cold. Walleye and steak terrible.
Server was nice but not helpful at all. We ate separately on our anniversary. Sad. Their discount didn't even cover the food that was redone.
Was terrible food and won't recommend to anyone.
With so many restaurants cancelling their HH, it was nice to find a place that still had one.
We went for all you can eat Crab Legs on Tuesday. Great service and loved the ambiance. However, the legs were extremely salty. To the point we didn’t feel like we really ate that much for what we paid. Even the kids thought they were way to salty.
The waitress we had was not interested at all in doing her job. We ended up asking another waitress for water and some popovers. We never got asked if the meal was good and then she just put the check on the table. She never asked if we wanted dessert or how anything was. We have ate here many times with no complaints but last night was disappointed. We spend good coin for a good meal and that is terrible service.
Axels staff made sure we had a wonderful evening for our anniversary! Private booth, exceptional service and a celebratory dessert. They rock on making everything great for our night with them.
ALL YOU CAN EAT SNOW CRAB FOR $45. It is shamelessly good!
Reservation - Waited 35 minutes past our reservation to be seated and another 15 before server came by to acknowledge us.
Server - Worst service in 10 years. Had to track her down for water refills, brought wrong sides with meal and waited while our food got cold when she brought them. Literally went up to host stand to ask if she could track down our waitress for our check.
Food - We've been here several times and the foods has usually been good to really good. Popovers are wonderful! However, I had their fish fry special and it was so greasy, had to pull off the breading, and was surprised how little fish was under it, and then it was tough/chewy to boot. Husband ordered steak which was only mediocre at best -- odd because he'd had it before and enjoyed it. Server got his sides all messed up. His steak got cold as he waited for the mushroom topping and steak sauce.
It will be a long time before we go back, if ever.
We really enjoy coming here. The food is always great and you can't beat those popovers! I've tried many things on the menu and loved them all; my husband loves the walleye.
Had all you can eat crab legs and our server was great about just bringing us more! Food was great, our server was great and the prices are very reasonable.
Enjoyed dining on the patio, as not presently dining inside restaurants; proper social distancing. Waitress very friendly excellent service! Delicious food!
Great restaurant, but could have a few more simple menu items.
Ashley was an excellent server and made the evening extra special. Great manager and
good food.
Sitting outside is the best.
We went understanding they were serving their walleye they used to serve as their Wednesday night special. However their special was a dinner of Walleye, Cod and a couple of shrimp. All four of us were a bit disappointed and ordered the Walleye, two larger portion dinners and shared. Walleye was excellent. Waiter was fine. We like Axel's and happy to have them open. Nice evening with friends.
We had a reservation had to sit in the bar area. Food was amazing, it was very loud.
We love Axel's--our neighborhood spot for great food, lovely decor, where we can hear each other talk without yelling!
Loved the State Fair offerings!
Food was awesome, service was pretty slow being we were a handful of people there and it was late
Food took a really long time to come out and when we got it, it was good not great. Never got a reason from the server or manager. Must have been a bad night for them.
This is one of our go to restaurants on a Saturday night. We were pretty disappointed on this particular night. The service was super slow and our waitress was very inattentive. She never checked back to see if we needed anything. My husband had to ask several times for more water. You typically get warm popovers as soon as you order your food, they came half way through our meal. She said the kitchen was busy, not likely we sat outside and there was three other parties out there too. There was a few occupied tables inside.
The waitress evidently knew another couple that were sitting outside she was at their table laughing and talking most of the time. I don't mind that so much, but at least check on your other tables first. Very disappointed!!
The food and atmosphere was fine. I was really put off by our waitress. She walked up to our table and didn’t even say hi, just waited for us to tell her what we wanted, followed by a very lack luster attitude. I get it that everyone has a bad day, but the service was terrible. I just mov d to the area and was hoping to find someplace we can count on for good food and service. I’ll give it one more try...
Excellent meal made with care. Our server was excellent.
Incredible meal. Walleye was perfect, the steak was succulant and the staff was incredible. I will be back!
It was okay. Still looks like it did 20 years ago. A good face-lift would be nice to see
31st Anniversary
We were the only ones on the patio, and frankly one of about 5 tables in the whole place. Menu is quite limited due to covid, which we expected but the service was really slow. Took until after our food arrived to get any water, even though we asked several times. but she was sure interested in selling us another round of booze. French dip was also disappointing-no salt in either the meat or the jus. Overall a MEH app xperience.
I love the space, the food is always top notch...I would come more often if it had different price points - it’s a “special event” venue for us rather than a routine regular favorite spot because of the high prices
So glad Axels is back! It was outstanding as usual.
Great food! Great service! Very covid compliant. A great night out with the added security of staff being very compliant during this awful PANDEMIC ! Highly recommend!
Coconut shrimp dinner was fabulous. Service was great. Nice cleanliness and social distancing. Will be back!
Loved it. Great service. We will definitely be back!
We had the fish fry on Friday night and it was really good as were the bull bites and the service!
The fillet has always been our favorite. it melts in your mouth with flavor and is so tender. This time there was a fish fry so I had that. It was excellent . Wish you still had the lobster tail. perhaps next time it will be back.
The beer listed was somewhat limited, not a great selection. After our appetizer they forgot to bring our salads and popovers, just brought the entree. They then brought the salads but didn't offer to keep our entrees warm, so we felt quite rushed to eat quickly before the food got cold. They did apologize and give us a free dessert, but it was still a little disappointing.
