Thank you Lisa! Can't wait to see you again!
Very good food, good service reasonable prices. Interesting dishes.
Thank you MJG!
What a great evening! The menu is South African and South American based. The staff will patiently walk you through the menu! Every bite was flavor packed! We really enjoyed Astors and will definitely return!!
So glad you enjoyed it! We really appreciate the support and love the positive attitude!

It took a while to get our orders in and receive them. We waited a while to get refills on our kids drink . The food was very fresh and yummy. The staff was so nice though. Overall great experience and will try again.
Thank you! I will definitely take the time to talk to my staff about the importance of timely service. Hope to see you again soon!
Giant pork chop was extremely dry. Other 3 meals were good.
Great food and service.
Service was terrible and that’s being kind. I’m still scratching my head about what items on the menu were farm to table. Will NOT be going back. EVER.
UPDATED SEPTEMBER 16, 2021
I guess I should have been more detailed in my review. I felt bad for the owner/chef as he seemed to be in over his head. I no longer feel any sympathy for him. He deserves to be losing his shirt as is so clearly happening. To correct the short comings of my initial review, I am updating my review with details.
The owner sent me a confrontational message today “educating me” about farm to table ingredients. Why so secretive Mr. Owner?
Here is a SHORT list of the issues we experienced during our only visit to Astor. Our Bill was over $325 and the experience wasn’t worth a penny.
(1) Our table was not approached by ANY employee for 25 mins upon our arrival. Our drink glasses sat empty
(2) Our entrees arrived BEFORE THE APPETIZERS LOL
(3) Two of our group ordered entrees medium rare. Both entrees arrived well done/ burned of shoe leather texture
(4) I had to actually get up, walk over to the bar, and beg for service. This was after our entrees arrived before our appetizers and not during our 25 minute wait to be approached by wait staff
(5) Nearly all the wine list was unavailable. We were told this 20 mins after we ordered the wine and after our entrees arrived before our appetizer order.
In his message to me , which is available for all to see below, he suggested my palate isn’t worthy of his fine dinning establishment. He suggested IHOP is more my speed.
As bad as IHOP is, it is literally multiple levels better than Astor. I would definitely take out of town guests to IHOP before I would embarrass myself by taking them to Astor.
Astor Farm to Table - A restaurant that you should pass by if you care about quality. People in the Katy food community talk; they all agree about ASTOR FARM TO TABLE. Not good.
Dmac - While we appreciate your review, I am happy to educate you on Farm to Table dining. There are several aspects of our menu, from the meats to the fruits, that we buy fresh. We do not have to disclose, what farms we use as suppliers or any of our vendor information. Maybe your taste buds are not used to fresh food? At any rate, IHOP may be more of your style.
I had heard so many good things about Astor, I was expecting more. We decided to go for Mother’s Day since it was a special occasion and could make a reservation. I looked to see if there was a special menu listed anywhere but couldn’t find anything. So when we were seated and handed a menu, we were shocked to see that they had about 8-10 items, which also included a beef empanada, dessert and a special gift bag for mom at $35 per person. Knowing how busy every other place was on Mother’s Day morning, and seeing as how there were seven tables with people sat, we decided to go ahead and stay. I ordered the Healthy Benedict, which is just eggs on tomatoes.
The waitress brought everyone’s food except for mine, and said it was going to be two minutes. 10 minutes later, a manager came over and asked if we needed something because my husband was trying to get someone’s attention. I asked to just have my item taken off the bill since my family was just about done with their meals and I was kinda over it by this time. The manager assured me that they would rush my order and have it out straight away. 10 more minutes later, I see some food coming out of the kitchen. I told my family that I was ready to go if some of it wasn’t mine. I watched as many servers were preparing to drop food at a big top party of about 12 people. Watched all of the food go out but nothing for me.
So when our waitress came back, we asked again to just have the item taken off because we were ready to go. She apologized. She brought us the check, we paid and left. Then after we get home, I commented on someone else’s post on Facebook explaining what happened. The owner responded how happy he was to have served so many people that day and how much time they spent making gift bags!! That’s when I remembered we didn’t get our dessert and I didn’t get my gift bag either. Owners comments were dismissive at best. Seems like he’s just interested in the money.
They were out of quite a bit of things. Particularly wine, appetizers and the food was just OK.
Food was good! Service was a little off so that set the tone. This was on our list of restaurants to visit and we did.
Not what we expected!
Nothing “farm to table” about this place. If you like ketchup - this is your place. Over-priced mediocre food. A disappointment from start to finish.
The food is incredible - our guests truly enjoyed their meals. The service was decent - nothing over the top, but it will not effect our decision to return. We will be back!
We are from Southern Africa and were excited to see what Astor had to offer with regards to familiar foods from 'home'. Their menu looks very interesting and has great descriptions for everything. Unfortunately first impressions aren't always the best. They did not have the wine we wanted. They did not have prawns or shrimp and were not very forthcoming with a replacement on the seafood platter. I had to ask for a glass of water and they brought our main courses before our appetizers which they actually forgot about. The food we did receive was mediocre and quite expensive considering. Maybe we should have ordered the Espetadas which seem to be very popular? If you have great food it makes up for bad service and if you have great service it sometimes makes up for mediocre food. Unfortunately this restaurant did not meet any of those expectations and we won't be back.
Excellent food and service!
Just horrible! From the moment I enter and sat down because a reservation was made. While sitting no waiter came to get my drink order. Yes, I understand it’s Valentines Day and a lot of business aren’t use overflow, but when it comes to different occasions all hands need to be on the deck. Manager came over , after someone decided to take our drink orders. Food was bland and not correct , sent it back for correction of my eggs , but didn’t receive my piece of chicken. Busy in the kitchen and waiter’s can hardly keep up. I will not be going back after the quality of services , ask to speak with the manager which she never came after my food was poor.
The food is unique, fresh and delicious with generous appetizer and entrée portions. The owner obviously takes a lot of pride in his restaurant in every way. Greets all the guests at their table and holds the door open as they leave if he is in the dining room. Highly recommend this for a new experience you will want to incorporate into your routine.
We had an enjoyable and delicious experience. All of our food was flavorful and fresh. We’ll definitely return!
I personally wouldn’t go back. I requested a table outside near the heater since it’s COVID and it was cold outside. When we arrived we were seated outside but was told none of the heaters were working not even an attempt to get ANY of the 3 heaters working. The only bright spot was our server Kelly.
Best Brunch and service in a long time. Fantastic food!
We went there this evening. The waiter was inattentive, the food was late and lukewarm when it arrived, the meal did not include everything listed on the menu (I had the ribeye and they failed to include the green beans and mashed potatoes which was listed on the menu). I had ordered a side salad and it did not have any drawing on it.
All in all it was a terrible evening for all of my party (6 persons) and I personally will not return.
Customers need to know that on the day before and on a holiday, this restaurant offers a set menu and the prices are too high for the meal they serve. We went for a New Year's breakfast and the set menu was all that was offered. Unfortunately, had I waited a day and ordered the same meal, it would have been $20 less. There is nothing special about the set menu only the price is exaggerated due to "holiday pricing". Also, no announcement at the door so many guests got up and left when to their surprise were exposed to one menu and price as a choice. I would advise the owner to let his customers know what to expect so that an awkward situation can be avoided. Plus it's just good customer service to be transparent.
Hi Lyn, please follow our social media and Open Table websites. We post a week in advance when we have special menu options for Holidays and any other special occasions/events. Our preset breakfast menus are not only larger portions but it also includes all non-alcoholic beverages and desserts, as well as featured items hand picked by the Chef. Thank you for your feedback.
New Year’s Eve
Wonderful presentation and delicious food. Posted a recommendation online in my neighborhood.
Thank you for your support Rob!
Great food and service!
Hey Fred, so glad you like the food and the service!
Durban Bunny Chow appetizer was delicious as was my Beef Espetada and South African yellow rice. Casey worked his magic in the kitchen once again. The new restaurant is nice and spacious with plenty of room between the tables for comfortable dining. Best of luck to Casey and his staff.
Birthday Dinner... Everything was great and the owner made sure to greet us and even take our order to make sure everything was correct from the kitchen. We will visit again!
The place was shut down.
A favorite restaurant! Great food and service.
Honestly, the food was presented well, looked amazing, but when it’s overly salty and your tongue goes numb and can’t eat anymore then it no longer becomes a pleasant experience.
Excellent qualty food (as usual), casual atmosphere, friendly and professional service!
We are looking forward to the new and larger restaurant (fmr PeiWei ..). Astor can certainly use that considering the many returning customers!!!
See you soon at the new place!!
Visited for the first time last weekend.
- The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu
- The prices in the menu were scratched off and replaced with higher prices
- The waitress was not attentive and kept forgetting to bring requested items
- We found hair in the food. They remade it, but the owner still charged us full price
- The food is ok, but definitely not worth the $60 price tag for two people during lunch (2 teas, tostones, curry goat, and 4 empanadas). $9 for four pieces of plantain is robbery.
- They charged $3 for 2 small Chimichurri sauces (typically complimentary elsewhere)
I really wanted to love this restaurant, but that first impression was disappointing.
Extremely short staffed and food was cold
This place just gets better and better, awesome dinner, great wines great service, we love it here
Chef/owner created a wonderful menu. Great food, excellent service.
Great service, excellent Margaritas, flavorful appetizers and spicy cuisine made it for an enjoyable evening. The empanadas were well made, the Baboutie was made to perfection Shoutout to Juan from Monterrey for making the best Margaritas!
Staff could ruin this place. Not attentive, not professional. My mom ordered a sangria twice and the second one they brought her was in the same glass and they did not add more or nor fruit like the first one. The employees do not seem to take the Covid protocols seriously, I did not feel safe talking to them or ordering food, the wore their masks below their nose (every single one of them). The food was great but because of the employees I would not eat there again and would not recommend this place.
Casey and his staff are always great! Love the food and the environment!
