Food has been better in the past
Wine is expensive
Service was very good but restaurant was not busy, hence not a true test.
I’ve eaten here many times in the past and remember better quality of food then

Tried this restaurant for the first time the other night. We were a group of three couples and seated at a great circular table near a large picture window. The food was delicious and the server was very friendly. We had a very enjoyable evening and would definitely return to this restaurant. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone that has not been here before. We’ll be back! 😊

This was our first time here. The atmosphere was quaint but the volume was loud. Our server was a bit impersonal and we felt somewhat rushed throughput the meal but he warmed up as the night went on. The food was amazing. We had the filet mignon with arugula and the broccoli rabe w/ sausage as appetizers and they were delicious. Our entrees were the Gulf Shrimp/ pesto and the Cioppino which was an assortment of shrimp, tilapia, scallops, calamari, and little neck clams in a boulliabaisse which was superb. We’ll definitely be back, despite the noise. The food is worth it!

Very nice experience overall. The staff was very professional, efficient and friendly and the food was very good, lots of good classic choices on the menu. The desserts are very decadent, generous in size and quite delicious, save room!

First time going and will return. This place was a centrally located and food delicious. Lobster ravioli were plump and enough for second meal. Staff were prompt and friendly. A “secret” gem for me to enjoy solo or with ‘that’ person.

We had the surf and turf special. It was fabulous! The sauce was rich and flavorful. The service was impeccable too. My only complaint: my table was squished into an area used for serving and that took away from a very romantic experience. I'll definitely be back.

This was our first dinner here and it will not be our last. We had a very early dinner so we had the whole place to ourselves and Janice gave us a great window seat. We found a new Sauvignon Blanc called Loveblock and that's now going to be my new favorite. For apps my husband had the tuna and it was outstanding. I had the pumpkin ravioli special and let me tell you I could have made that my dessert it was so rich and yummy. Salad was included with the meal and it was simple but the greenest fresh out of the garden perfect salad. For dinner we both had the striped bass special. It came over linguini but we are not too found of pasta so they were very accommodating when we asked for risotto instead. The fish was wonderful and the risotto was cooked perfect. For dessert we shared the crème brulee and the heart presentation was very thoughtful since we were celebrating our 28th anniversary. Special touches like that really mean a lot, thank you. Janice was so sweet with the complimentary champagne as well. It really was a wonderful night and we can not wait to go back again. Thanks again from the two of us!
PS. The only thing I would change is the loud music. I would have loved to heard some classic/romantic music with dinner.

All around wonderful experience at Assaggio. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, and came highly recommended from many friends. I was fortunate enough to get a table there, and it lived up to the hype. From the exceptional food to the world class service, this place is a gem hidden in a small town. Kudos to my server Peter for giving us then VIP treatment. We will be sure to return soon.

All dinners were terrific - 2 from the specials list, super fresh sea bass with clams and a filet surf and turf with fabulous lobster sauce - the really deep, brick color and taste you get only from slow cooking with the shells and without any obvious excess thickener. Third item a classic veal, prosciutto , eggplant, cheese was tender and flavorful with a solid tomato sauce over angel hair. The desserts were also knockouts. We were thrilled to introduce our friends to it.

What a lovely experience I had tonight. I dine frequently for business and often find myself looking for something quaint, yet upscale. Assaggio provided stellar service that beyond met my expectations, with a menu comparable to a New York City spot that has a 2 week waiting list. An Italian restaurant that goes beyond spaghetti and meatballs (it not an offering), the menu seemed to have something for every time of diner. Glass wine was both expertly suggested and better quality than you come to expect from a house offering. If I find myself in this New Haven suburb, I will be sure to return.
