Quick stop-by drinks/appetizers-Octopus appetizer not to be missed. They made me shrimp in Diavolo sauce with homemade penne pasta- Amazing!!!! Everything on the menu is excellent- can’t go wrong here.
I'd go back just for the zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and truffle oil. The best!!!
They make a nice negroni also.
Great food coming out of the kitchen. Dining room was comfortable and easy to hold conversation. Excellent service.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time and meals! From the drinks to the appetizers to the staff...all were great!
The menu at Assaggio is more inventive and interesting than the usual North End menu with the standard fare. We had a special appetizer of grilled langostinos over arugula which was excellent. The veal chop was also a winner and delicious. Unfortunately, my pasta with clams was so full of sand that I could not eat it. The chef should have known to soak and purge the clams before cooking them. It was also prepared with wide pappardelle noodles rather than spaghetti or linguini, which is traditional and don't feel it was the best pairing. The service was attentive and friendly. I would definitely go back, but never order the clams again!
We’ve been to Assaggio several times and have never been disappointed. Staff are professional and attentive but not over-bearing. Food is great, nice ambiance. A neighborhood favorite!
Great seafood and pasta options. Corey and Carlo created a warm and inviting experience that was noticed and greatly appreciated by our guests. This is one of our top restaurants in the North End because of both the quality of the food and the excellent customer-orientation delivered by the Assaggio staff.
Great selection of delicious foods especially the lamb chops. The dining room is bit crowded and noisy but the staff if consistently attentive
Basement eating , not enjoyable
It was great! The Positano is amazing and I love it sooooo much！
Really a wonderful experience. the service was fabulous and the food was amazing. Ambiance was cozy and overall lovely setup.
The food was excellent from appetizer to dessert as was the service. Will definitely make it our go to for the North End.
Just great! Great food-great experience. My daughter picked it for her 16th birthday and it was perfect. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Our waitress was very helpful with the menu. Food was delicious. Presentation was nice. They did a special dessert for our daughter and the whole family. We would go back for sure. Loved it all.
Enjoy making reservations at this restaurant for business clients. Great atmosphere and location.
Made reservations online somewhat last minute and as a result waited well past our reservation time until the table was ready. Enjoyed a drink at the bar while waiting. The food was delicious - la griliata was wonderful seafood mix - highly recommend. Overall, a great dining experience.
The waiter (Tony from Albania) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and important. Made our visit very memorable.
We had a simple meal - just appetizers and some wine. Our server was great and kept track of us. We were seated in the lower level - next to the walk in fridge. We could watch the servers come downstairs to get drink supplies for their guests. There wasn't a lot of ambience in the lower level, but there was only one other table in use down there - so it was quiet enough for conversation. It would have been much noisier upstairs. The food was delicious. We shared roasted peppers bruschetta as well as a meatball with ricotta. They make the ricotta in house - and it was truly wonderful. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend it highly!
For my 75th birthday, I went with my wife, and both of us enjoyed excellent meals. I had Pompeii putanescea; shr had salmon. We shared, and agreed my choice was best. She enjoyed her salmon, which the menu said came with vegetables. When the latter did not arrive, she inquired, and the waiter said the dish did not have vegetable. We asked the maitre 'd, and he brought delicious veggies. Both us enjoyed. For dessert, we shared an outstanding cannoli. We enjoyed the complimentary spritzer.
Grigliata, fresh pasta and shrimp followed by limoncello and fruit platter! Amazing!
Food was very good. However, portions were small for what we were being charged. Very expensive as compared to other places I have enjoyed in the North End.
Food was very good, everything was great, we were very pleased until we got to dessert. Was really annoyed at what our waiter did- watch out for this scam...After clearing our dinner plates, he asks, “Who likes chocolate?” So naturally we say yes. He turns around quickly, leaves our table and brings over two martini chocolate desserts and gives them to us. We didn’t ask for them or order them. In fact, I would’ve liked to look at the dessert menu and make my own decision. We get the bill and he charged us $38 for t2 desserts. I can see paying $9-12, but $19 each?? Total rip off....Some of the main courses were only a few dollars more. We would’ve gone back, but this was a total turn off! Very disappointed in being taken advantage of.
Great food and great service. Planning on eating here again.
This is an excellent restaurant. We were greeted by name by the manager who was wonderful and charming. The server was outstanding. He was knowledgable and helpful. The food tastes amazing and the cocktails were outstanding. In the North end, there are many good places to eat but I would highly recommend dining at Assaggio.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were the only ones in the restaurant! Our waiter was very attentive, the owner came by to check on us and the food was out of this world!
THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. I THINK OUR WAITER MAY HAVE BEEN NEW. DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE MENU AND WE HAD TO ASK ABOUT THE SPECIALS OF THE NIGHT.
Really authentic Italian food. Veal chop was incredible! Assagio made for the perfect North End Italian dining experience! Wait staff were super professional and very friendly! We vowed to return!
Fantastic meal - thanks Assaggio! The food was terrific and a great wine list.
Always a wonderful dinner-so many excellent options! Tonight-grigliata (platter of mixed grilled seafood ) which is outstanding. No other restaurant in North End makes anything exactly like this. Had rabe bruschetta followed by filet expertly cooked. Reasonable prices especially for quality of food. Excellent atmosphere- good wine. It was our anniversary and they brought us their fruit platter. It easily could have been for four people brought rest home. Don't miss it.
Easy to reserve. Very good food. Was crowded but expected on a Saturday night.
Ate here a few times years ago. Heard there was new owner, so decided to try it again.
Very different vibe. More energy, staff was excellent and the food was wonderful. We share the gnocchi - light and tasty - and the grigliata - a platter of various seafoods that was tasty and perfect for 2.
My boyfriend was very impressed with the wine list, at all price points.
No room for dessert - this time!
This was my first visit to the restaurant which came recommended by my neighbors (I live in the North End). We have many restaurants to choose from in this location, and I will definitely be returning to Assaggio. The maitre d was friendly and chatty, the wait people were fastidious, courteous and knowledgeable.
The menu and cocktail list are creative and the wine list is extensive, if expensive. The food portions are large but not overwhelming.
It was a very pleasant dining experience.
We were certainly not made to feel welcome when we arrived for our 8 pm reservation.
We were then rewarded with a table beside the clean up area and the washrooms in the basement. Very noisy.
The staff were over worked but did a great job.
The food was delicious. Very fresh fish and seafood.
I am not sure why there was a TV on the wall. Just a big distraction from dining.
Always a phenomenal experience - every dish is perfection!
New menu as a result of new ownership. Seems like less options available. I miss the old menu. Still decent.
Service was excellent and most meals were, as well! Crab cakes and ravioli just okay. Lamb, filet, brick chicken and flatbread all got rave reviews. Seated in the basement but we were early so it was quiet. Not your typical North End lower level - it was bright and airy. Only weird thing was tv on Wall in dining room - odd. Overall excellent and looking forward to a return visit when we can check out new cocktail lounge on their floor!
Excellent! Everyone loved it and raves about each dish!
There was some confusion about who our waiter was, so the table that got seated after us received their water/had their order taken before us. The waiter was very apologetic, but it was a really warm day and he passed our table twice with a water pitcher, so even if he didn’t think we were his table, it would have been a nice gesture to fill our glasses with water at least. We never received bread, and one entree was served at the same time as the appetizer. The food was great though, especially the octopus appetizer! Octopus is not an easy dish to cook, but it was tender enough to cut with a fork and tasted well-grilled, but not charred. We also had indicated we were celebrating a birthday through OpenTable, and the host acknowledged it to his coworker when he was looking at the reservation, but that was the last acknowledgement of the celebration. The whole experience would have been okay if we had been there for any average dinner, but was absolutely not special for a birthday celebration.
The food was delicious but the waiter made the meal seem rushed.
The bread is delicious, and we were seated promptly for our reservation at eight, but it went a bit down hill from there. We were a table of six, for a graduation dinner. They stuck us in the basement, and our waitress had us and a table of eight, who came in at the same time. Needless to say, her attention was very divided, and it showed. That was stupid to assign two big tables to the same waitress. She messed up a wine order, but had nicely offered to bring a couple of whites to taste, only to bring the wrong one. And the kitchen was very busy, and that also showed. The gnocchi was ordered explicitly without tomato sauce, which she wrote down, so I blame it on the kitchen, and her not checking the order when it came out with it, and so that person had to wait another ten minutes or more. My risotto came out a good ten minutes after most of the other dinners and was undercooked and chewy. I would have preferred to have been told that they were out or risotto and it would take a while, so I could have chosen another dish. The carbonara was very salty. And we were charged a 20% tip automatically, despite bad service. The only thing memorable, as I said, was the bread, and they were generous with two rounds as we waited a long time for our food. And I should say, I know Italian food well, so perhaps I am more picky than some. Still, a disappointment, especially for the price which came to $50/person, even though everyone ordered pasta, not secondi meat/seafood dishes. We skipped dessert and went to Modern Pastry for a good ending to the night.
When I read the reviews on this page I saw 100 positive and 1 negative, I almost let that one negative review sway me from not dining here, but I am SO glad I didn't. We had an absolutely incredible experience here. The octopus was outstanding and so were the short ribs (WOW) just an amazing experience all around. Toni (our waiter) was beyond kind and helped so much with food and wine selection. It was such a great time! You will not be disappointed!
