Everything was exceptional. We loved every moment and morsel.
Food was the best we had of out 5 day stay in Asheville! Have already recommended it to a few people.
Dined here last evening. Was an absolutely fantastic food experience. Bone marrow and tuna crudo was extraordinary. Wagyu ribeye was delicious and cooked perfectly. Cauliflower side was so good. The s'mores dessert was to die for...not to mention the homemade ice creams!! We will definitely be back on our next visit to Asheville. Kudos on establishing a wonderful restaurant!
Excellent food and service. Waiter was very attentive to our table even though had other tables
Absolutely wonderful! The food was phenomenal and our server was fantastic. He even packed up the bones for my puppies! I already cannot wait until my next visit. I highly recommend Asheville Proper!
We each enjoyed a delicious cocktail. We then ordered the soft shell blue crab and two different wagyu steaks with confit potatoes. Everything was cooked to perfection and had explosive flavor. Our mouths and stomachs were very, very happy. Thank you to Nicholas who guided us through the menu. Excellent ambience and service! We will be back!
Delicious, interesting food. Not the same old thing. Loved it.
Very enjoyable. Sat outside and had a great meal.
The Wagyu steak was excellent. Great cocktails. We had the field peas and the fingerling potatoes as sides, both delicious. Can't remember the apps we had but remember loving those too. Also loved the custom open fire grill they had in view of the guests. Also, so nice that the staff was all dressed well! It's getting harder and harder to want to drop $250 on an evening while your server is tatted up wearing a t-shirt or a wrinkled polo uncorking an $80 bottle of wine. The inside was posh and contemporary, the staff was knowledgeable about their wines, cocktails, and menu. Am definitely coming back again for date night.
We grabbed a last minute reservation here & it was so worth it! The drinks were expertly poured and delicious. Our cheese platter was outstanding, both in variety & quality. And our steak was melt in your mouth perfect! I will absolutely be adding Asheville Proper to my favorite dining list for when I’m in Asheville! The service was attentive but not overbearing. Our server knew the menu well, listened to what we were wanting and steered us to the perfect dinner. Overall a great dining experience, can’t wait to go back!
The flat iron steak was delicious. The shiitake truffle oil mushrooms were as good (maybe even better) than the steak. Word of warning. There is no fillet mignon on the menu. Also, if you order a steak the sides, salads, and even the bread is a la carte.
For a place with a lot of beef on the menu we were disappointed in the quality of the meat. Most interesting aspect of the evening was a chance to walk through the lovely beaux arts Grove Arcade building.
Made a reservation while we were visiting Asheville for the weekend for a birthday dinner. Service was great, but the food was certainly not to the level I would have expected for the price you are paying. The ribeye was very thin, and the petite fillet was so charred that it overpowered the taste of the meat. Atmosphere was fine, except that they had a TV playing a baseball game in the bar area (visible to whole restaurant), which seemed to cheapen the atmosphere and made it feel less of an upscale dining experience and more of a sports bar with overpriced food. The cocktails were great.
I really enjoyed the environment, service, and food. I would definitely go back. It is the only locally owned steakhouse in Asheville (at least that is what the server said, I’m not 100% sure), but it was really great!
Amazing! We will definitely be back for sure. 5 /stars across the board. Excellent service, food and experience
Whoa, this place is expensive! So, be prepared! We had small plates first, one of which was octopus. Cooked to perfection but very, very salty. Buttermilk fried oysters were good. Two in the party got additional small plates for dinner, and said they were too salty as well. Three had steak, and although everything was cooked to perfection, the taste wasn't overwhelmingly great, which you would expect for the price that was paid. The "ash butter" that was an option with the steaks was pretty much tasteless (all three were in agreement). Chimichurri topping was excellent. Overall disappointed after spending the amount of money we did. Service was excellent.
It was amazing I will be going back.
Good experience and great food.
We had a lovely evening at Asheville Proper. The cocktails were excellent and our appi, the fried oysters, was so good I couldn't believe it. My husband and I both ordered steaks and both of us were very happy with the cook and flavor! I can attest that the asparagus, peas, grits and mushroom side dishes were all wonderful because we had all four. After all that we still had room for dessert and the s'mores are not to be missed, promise!
It was awesome. We loved the steak and accompaniments.
We were fist time diners here. The service (Warren), ambiance, and food were excellent. Everything was prepared to perfection. If you are thinking, “Hmmm...I feel like eating some steak!”, Asheville Proper is the place to eat.
Best menu I've had to choose from in a long time. Service was friendly and attentive. Wine and port selections were to my taste. I shall return.
small place. Great food. overall great experience.
The grills they have to grill the meat are wonderful!
Our server Ben was very knowledgeable about the menu and where the food comes from. He has great recommendations and was able to accommodate special requests for my dietary needs. The ambience was fun but romantic. Highly recommend!
Great spot! Food was delicious and the service was top notch.
The food was delicious. Our server was superb. The decor was a bit stark for a woodfired type of restaurant; I expected a bit more atmosphere. Maybe it gets better after dark.
The entire staff made our experience so enjoyable for our 15th wedding anniversary. Also, if you were raised on canned English peas and hated them please try them at Asheville Proper - very well worth it!
Perfect anniversary dinner! Everything was done with attention to detail. Fantastic service, steaks cooked exactly as ordered, sides (peas, cauliflower) were surprisingly good. Cocktails smooth and slightly smoky. Ok, I’m no food critic so I’ll stop but it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, and the service was great. We’ll be back!!!
Positive’s—Overall really good! My ribeye was one of the best I have ever had. Service was good and atmosphere was also good. S'mores dessert was really good.
Negatives— Rolls could be much better and should be included with meal. Need better variety of sides based on other same style restaurants
Honestly, the best meal I’ve had in Asheville. And if that wasn’t enough, the cocktails were top notch also. Got the octopus to start (SO tender and flavorful) and then the ribeye, the asparagus, and the confit potatoes. Just...perfect. Definitely a new regular.
It’s a good spot. Was expecting better food for what we pay. Will definitively return for a second time.
Nicholas was a server and was very helpful, attentive, and pleasant! Great experience overall!
Had a great experience at Asheville Proper. Were in town for the weekend and decided to make reservations. The restaurant is small, but had a really cool vibe. We started with buttermilk fried oysters which were amazing. We considered cancelling the rest of our meal and just getting more of the oysters! Glad we didn't, though. My wife got a mushroom salad which she raved about. I had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly. We also had a side of mushrooms which were amazing. The only negative was that we each ordered a Parker House roll. The rolls were good, but on the cold side. We also had dessert of Coconut Pavlova and Handmade Smores. Both were fantastic. The cocktails were great. Sweet tea could have been a bit sweeter. Overall, the experience was amazing. May have to go back to Asheville just to go to Asheville Proper again!
Perfection start to finish ! Cool ambiance, great food and bar service
This was one of the best meals I have ever had! The steak was outstanding. Our server, Alison, was super nice and explained the various steak cuts to us expertly.
Exceptional dinner and the bartenders were great with good conversation
Delicious food, great atmosphere and excellent service! You must have the smoked Old Fashion....exquisite!
The food was something special. For my budget it is not everyday or every week or every month that I could afford that but it was an amazing experience. The food was cooked on open fire and the restaurant really sets itself apart from the rest of the Asheville scene. We tried to go to unique businesses that aren’t mega corporations and this place fit the bill. If you are ever I. Asheville and want a unique dining experience try it out.
Emma was our server and took very good care of us. The food was also excellent and as expected.
