We have traveled all over the world and this is one of the best meals we have ever eaten. The service was perfect.
Always a great dinner. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything is always prepared to perfection. This restaurant has given us some of our top dining experiences in Asheville, yes we have gone back a few times and I’ve enjoyed it every single time.
Our waiter was pleasant and attentive but not very forthcoming when we asked about the cuts of steak offered. Although we asked twice we still didn't have a clear understanding of the different options. I ordered the duck! . Wood smoke permeates Everything, even sauces and vegetables taste Smokey. Food was different, not bad but not memorable. I did mentioned in my reservation that our dinner was for a special birthday celebration However no mention of it was made by any of the staff or any sort of special offering made other than a card left on the table supposedly signed by all the staff. Altogether disappointing.
We had an exceptional meal here! Edward took care of us at the bar and made us soon killer cocktails. Once seated Nate managed our evening from there. His suggestion of the Porterhouse Steak (big enough for 2) was a great decision because it might be the best steak we have ever eaten. But before that we had the Smoked Malt Gnocchi that pretty much rocked our world it was so good. Next we split the Arugula Apple Salad which was also above average. Finally dessert. Everything on that menu sounded awesome but we landed on the signature S'mores and the Lemon Chiffon Cake and neither of us were disappointed in anyway. One was rich and decedent and the other was light and elegant. Can't wait to back, maybe next time with friends. They will be blown away, like we were!
A.P. has a great aesthetic and was overall a good experience.
However, in this visit the food fell extremely short. I'm on a quest to find the best steak in town so we ordered the $110 special which was a 28 oz porterhouse (no sides included). We requested it be cooked medium. It was quite the disappointment when it came out medium well / well.
I think I can definitively say that if you're looking for the best steak in town, this ain't it.
Food was good. However, $45 rib eye was nothing special and certainly not worth $45. Sides were all extra, of course. I don’t mind paying for fabulous food. Good food not fabulous.
Ordered steak, medium rare, came out more like medium. Service was great, Drinks were great. Accompanying sauces are creative and delicious. Loud inside, nice and quiet outside.
Wonderful drinks, food and service as always.
For $45 the steak was small..wasn't cooked as I ordered and too salty.
Better value elsewhere..I will say that manager did take it off my bill. So thumps up to management.
Great food and service. My steak was tough and it was replaced right away
My wife and I went for an evening out while visiting Asheville and decided to give Asheville Proper a try. The server was very nice and did a great job but unfortunately that's where the good ended with our experience.
We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer to start. It was 3 cheeses and some cracker wafers drizzled with some sort of sticky sauce along with a muscadine jelly on the side. Not exaggerating when I say the presentation of this cheese plate was less then appealing, especially for a $15 dollar appetizer. The plate came out on just a basic dinner plate with cheese that was cut into 3 separate 1 inch by 1 inch squares, the crackers were just thrown onto the plate and the jelly was also just plopped on the plate as well. This is something I could have easily done at home for 3 bucks and would have been a better presentation.
My wife ordered the tuna crudo small plate. It was drenched in oil and lacked much flavor at all. She also ordered an arugula salad which may have been the best thing either of us ordered. I ordered the NY strip asked for it medium well and it was medium rare. Also the strip tasted like it was put over a smoker which wouldn't have been bad but it also lacked any additional flavor aside from the smoke taste. I ordered the crispy potatoes as a side that was drizzled with an aioli sauce. They were fine but just a fancier version of a French fry in my opinion.
All in all I would say for a night out which my wife and I rarely get it was a less then satisfying meal especially when the final ticket came to $115.00 for dinner.
We won't be back.
Visiting from Orlando and my significant other is a steak lover. After reading outstanding reviews I figured this was just the place for him to enjoy a top notch meal. The ambiance of the place is great! Service, excellent! The steak however, was average. For being wagyu you expect a high quality, tender steak. This one just didn’t meet the expectations. On a very positive note, Allison recommend the grits as a side and they are definitely worth it. Their signature s’mores dessert was also delicious.
Loved the ambience & the service but the food was just not up to par for what I was expecting.
Honestly the best night out ever! The food and service was incredible!!!
Absolutely amazing! You must try the Bees Knees cocktail, cheese plate and the grits side. Impeccable. Can’t wait to return next time we’re in town.
Asheville Proper was one of the best meals I’ve had in Asheville in years! The menu was creative and everything was prepared perfectly. Our server was kind and knowledgeable and the ambience is refreshing. We will definitely be back!
Great food and outstanding service from our waiter! Would highly recommend Asheville Proper to anyone.
Absolutely incredible. The food, service, and ambiance on the patio all were top notch. We wandered in for drinks and snacks on a Saturday and had such a wonderful experience that we booked dinner reservations for the following evening! We can’t wait to return the next time we are in town.
Asheville has a new restaurant in my top 5 list! What makes this one special is the unique selection of prime and dry-aged steaks. The duck was also excellent, and is accompanied by a field pea succotash, but this is no ordinary succotash. Without doubt the best steaks in town by a long-shot, and an diverse menu for everyone else (including my vegetarian daughter-in-law).
Wonderful food and service! They gave me a signed birthday card from the team. Classy touch. Highly recommend.
Loved our dinner, the open fire, and service from our server was excellent. NY Strip Steak, grouper, tuna crudo, bone marrow and potatoes were all really wonderful. Highly recommend for a solid dinner in Asheville!
Every time we dine at Asheville Proper we leave with all of our senses satisfied. We love dinning there
The vegetables and vegetable medleys were outstanding. The Waugu steak was ok not worth price. Rolls were bad, dry and cold. Salads were very good. Service was outstanding!!!!
Great job to chef and team!!!
It was so good
The service was only surpassed by the amazing food. Everything was excellent and we had an amazing time.
Amazing. Delicious food, great service. I would drive back from Chicago just to eat here. Bone Marrow was fantastic, Waygu ribeye was amazing. Dessert was delightfully refreshing. And the beets with goat cheese… I need to figure out how to replicate that at home.
One year wedding anniversary
Our waiter, Nate, was awesome. My boys loved it, and I think we ate just about everything on the menu. All super yummy!
Amazing food. Amazing service. Fantastic drinks. Must go.
Great service. Food was pricy for the quality.
Excellent food and service. My only complaint is the heat in the room, due to the wood fire. They need to install a tempered glass partition behind the stove where they are cooking, so that the heat from that cooking area does not flow into the dining room.
Seated immediately with our reservation. They had prepared a card for us signed by the wait staff and they took our bottle of wine to be decanted prior to our meal. Super friendly, educated, and prepared staff. Would recommend.
Excellent service. We come here for the small plates which are all so fresh and unique.
Food was fantastic!! One of the top three restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. My husband and I will be coming back next time we visit Asheville.
Our server Allison was a delight the food was amazing
Very happy with both the food and the service. Recommended.
Best service & steaks in Asheville. Period. Even better if your staying at the Cambria, so you don't have far to waddle back after getting your fill
Still my favorite restaurant in town!
