Went for DineLA and were not disappointed! Steak tartar was phenomenal. Burata was light and mild. Bib and blue with a fat strip of bacon was delicious. The spaghetti was really good and not heavy at all. Branzino was delicate and melted in your mouth. The ribeye was excellent with great flavor and perfectly prepared. The brussel sprouts were awesome and mashed potatoes are not to be missed. Chocolate cake was a nice sweet finish.
We had a wonderful time at APL!! The food was great and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was just okay. Expected more for the price taste wise.
Excellent service, friendly staff, our server was very patient and took the time to explain menu options and wine pairings, allowed for tasting options for recommendations. Food was excellent, would definitely go back for the service we received and to try the short rib, because it looked amazing!
Went there for dineLA. Service was great but the food wasn’t what I expected in flavor profile. Nothing wow. Good dinner. But had better steaks.
The service was excellent. However, the food was ok. I was a little disappointed with the sides, specifically the mashed potatoes which were a little watery. Overall we had a great experience and would return.
i've never written a negative review before but i'm complled to here...we had been looking forward to celebrating a friend's birthday here w/great anticipation and the evening began well w/a beautiful table, friendly staff, a nice bottle of beaujolais, exceptional bread, and a couple of very nice small plates...the huge disappointment came w/the main events: steaks for which this place is celebrated came out tough and poorly cooked...the cuts and aging were probably fine but we were told when ordering "charred, medium rare" that their grills weren't capable of that...we ordered 3 different cuts: hangar steak, bone-in new york, and dry-aged ribeye, all medium rare (to the tune of about $400.00!) and all 3 came out tough yet undercooked purple on the inside...we ended up boxing it all and taking it home to be used other ways...we couldn't imagine how they could get so many things right and fail so miserably at what they're stated mission is...in retrospect, the fault i think lay not in the ingredients but the stunningly poor preparation...a HUGE disappointment and we won't be back
Had dinner here with my boyfriend and a couple friends after Wicked at The Pantages. The hostess was warm and welcoming, and showed us to our table immediately. The steaks were amazing! We really enjoyed our cocktails and our server, Josh did an excellent job.
Food was amazing. A little pricey compared to other steakhouses, but service was great.
Service was fine. Decor was charming. Food was mediocre, steaks were not prepared as ordered, timing was off on courses, AND it was $500 for 3 people. Won’t be back.
We were here for DineLA (although we had tried Chef Adam's cooking before and enjoyed his way with meat). Opening cocktails (off-menu item were disappointing and we commented, as it was an experiment and they took one off the bill, even though I said it wasn't necessary since we finished them we just gave feedback). Tartare was very good, a bit uneven on the seasoning (some bites a bit to salty and others just right), would definitely have this again. Wedge overwhelming in size and taste, definitely a winner but built for 2 as it is half a head wedge. Pasta was obviously fresh and the pomodoro was elegantly simple. Steak was perfectly prepared and aged. I was nervous about the potatoes seemed thin but was unctuous and had satisfying mouth feel - even better if you put some bacon in them - heavenly). Brussels sprouts were delicious except for apples (but then cooked apples aren't my thing), so that's a personal thing but the rich bacon cut by acid in the vingar, the char on the leaves and a bit sweet tart pomegranate all worked well for me in hitting different parts of the palate. Biggest disappointment was the chimichurri without garlic. Mentioned that and they brought out some shaved raw garlic to add but when Chef Adam came by he said that was wrong, he came back with a microplane and added it. Much improved. Dessert was wonderful (we had chocolate) and enough to finish the last bottle of wine. Great service and very willing to accept feedback. Is it pricey, yes. Was the service excellent, yes. Was Chef Adam and everyone trying to adjust it if you found something just off, yes. Was the meat treated as it should be, from what we had yes. A few missteps show that it still hasn't quite got all the freshman issues worked out but overall, it will be my preferred restaurant for my Pantages subscription or other events in the area or just for some really good meat from a great chef. I find it a great value for what we received.
Great service from Shalimar!
I wanted to be blown away by this place and it was just “good”. Hearing about Adam Perry Lang and his reputation with meat, I assumed this was going to be the standard for steak houses. The wedge salad was huge and yummy but every flavor was so much that we couldn’t have more than a few bites...the bacon rich and Smokey, the blue cheese pungent (as it should be) but again sooo rich. While visually stunning having that slab of bacon on top, we missed the crunch and textural component of a crispier, lighter bacon. Sides were mashed potatoes and maitake mushrooms. I love a mushroom so much. Especially with a steak, however these beautiful fungi were fried into oblivion, so it could have been anything. I missed the juicy, meaty bite of a roasted mushroom. The mash was the best thing we had all night. Silky smooth and perfect purée. The steak was good but I had my sights set way higher especially for a claim of 100 day age. It needed salt but the crust was beautiful and it was cooked perfectly ...it just wasn’t the best steak ive ever had and a bit bland to be honest. All in all, good. Not great. Not sure if I’ll return. Service was great and the chef does make sure to touch every table which is a nice gesture.
Breanna was an excellent server! The food was great as well as the presentation!
Our group of three had the pre-theater choices. Service, food, ambience were all great.
<100 day aged ribeye was excellent. Wedge was amazing. expensive but pretty much worth it.
Great food & service, perfect before the theatre.
Went here for the pre-theater meal. My steak was half fat and inedible. It was such a thin cut too. I had read amazing things about the brussel sprints but they were way too vinegary. I cannot believe I paid that much for a mediocre meal. Very disappointed.
Great food, great experience. Impressed by Josh our server and the owner/chef. Will definitely go back.
Such a great experience. Amazing food, incredible and friendly service and a great room. I highly recommend this place for any occasion.
For the price point, I gel like APL was no better than it needed to be. On the one hand, the aged beef (their specialty) was pretty intense and interesting. They've put a lot of care into it. But, the rest of the food was (for the price, again) underwhelming. The caesar salad was bland to the point of being inconsequential. It needed more lemon, black pepper, even anchovy. Something. The potatoes were creamy, but uninteresting. The brussels sprouts were good, but not much else.
The fries were fine, but came without even a bit of ketchup, or aioli. I guess I could have spent $5-8 on a side of sauce, but ... the fries were already $8 on their own.
Some dishes were better. I liked the burrata and persimmon. My hangar steak was completely delicious ... but rare, not medium rare like I ordered, and without the promised bearnaise.
I liked the desert. But wasn't wowed. I compare this experience to, say, Bavel or Bestia, where I'll also drop $300 with wine and tip, and think it really isn't worth it.
This place was an enormous disappointment. The much-hyped aged steaks were unremarkable, at best. Lacking in flavor and not particularly well-prepared. In fairness, the wedge salad was extraordinarily good, and the delicious slab of bacon atop the salad fueled my expectation that the steaks would be similarly special and delicious. But no. The steaks were as unimpressive as the also over-hyped “felony” steak knives which were maybe the 30th best steak knives I’ve seen in a restaurant. My side order of crispy Brussels sprouts was weirdly - and not appealingly - sweet. Dessert was a warm chocolate thing with whipped cream on top. In appearance and taste like something you’d get at Applebee’s. In short, APL is by no means a restaurant for people who are used to or looking for high quality, carefully prepared food. Not going back.
The service was phenomenal. From the hostess to the servers, every front room employee was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was immaculate, there was not a flaw that could be seen or tasted in anything ordered. Hands down best steak house in Hollywood.
The ribeye and short rib steaks & sides were amazing but the New York prime rib was pretty tasteless so I sent it back & got something else. I will definitely be going back for another ribeye! Was shocked at how small the wine pours are so will eat more and drink less.
I wish they had more individual steak options. Still good though. Likely the best wedge salad in the world.
Wonderful time. Food was excellent, loved the hanger steak . Cocktails were sublime perfectly balanced.
Our waitress Melanie was a pro!
Bacon. Just get it. Everything is solid here, but the bacon was amazing. Brussels were solid, and the steaks are great. Nice wine selection. We had a Priorat that was perfect.
very nice steakhouse in the heart of Hollywood. Their dry age beef is really amazing. Appetizers could be slightly better (tried the shrimps) but nonetheless they are quite good. Overall a good dining experience specially if what you're looking for is a great aged steak!
Nice upscale vibe. The noise level was good - easy to have a conversation. Odd music mix (kind of a 70s-80s) didn't go with upscale vibe. Help was nice, but a bit slow. We ordered the Tomahawk steak med-rare, which came out quite rare and then they took it away to slice it, and then we had to wait another 5-7 minutes for our side dishes. So the meat was quite cool by the time we dug in. The mashed potatoes had great flavor, but were positively soupy. Matzo soup was inedibly salty. Was really hoping the food would be better. Didn't risk dessert.
We ordered the pre-show menu and everything was very salty. I spent the rest of the evening thirsty! The Chardonnay I ordered was not worth $19 for the 6oz pour. All in all, I’m glad I experienced it but I’ll never go back. My dog did enjoy the bone!
Great for pre show dinner and a local fav.
This was our first visit and It surpassed our expectations on every level! Every single item we ordered was perfection! All four of us loved every single bite! This will be a definite be back Restaurant for wonderful dining beautiful space fantastic service and genuinely amazing food! Cudos to Adam!!!!
Loved the food, service was great
Food was excellent. Service was great.
Server was excellent and explained the menu well and had great recommendations.
Ambiance was horrible. The food uneven to bad. Immensely overpriced. Truly a bad experience. Long lines for the bathroom. The king of aged meat has no idea how to run a restaurant. Avoid. When there are so many better choices for meals don’t spend money here.
3% Guest fee was added to the check...this was separate from a tip....never seen this before and it was a saddening end to an otherwise fun evening....
The wedge was incredible and the 100 day dry aged rib eye was outstanding. The best steak I’ve had in my entire life. I suggest skipping on the individual porterhouse and upgrading to chef selection steak. Chef Adam Lange even came to our table and chatted with us
Very over priced with too much hype in other reviews. Quality of tomahawk special cut steak disappointing and cost over the top. Might be good for tourists novices who want to try American beef but not a place to frequent on a regular basis as a native.
