Fantastic dinner! Andrew, our server was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive. The meal was fantastic, the Korean Fried Chicken is not to be missed. The dining room was beautiful. Will be back soon!

Where to start!? Went there for my boyfriend's bday.... The service was great from hostess to food runners, and definitely our server Michelle! The staff was so professional, knowledgeable, and made our dinner a hit. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. We got the crab hand rolls (super fresh/flavorful), the noodles with calamari/pork belly, the Korean fried chicken, and the Red Snapper. Drinks were delicious (Thai tai & Japanese old-fashioned). He was SO HAPPY with the restaurant as a whole so thanks everyone there!!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in San Diego. My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday and every single item we ordered was delicious. We ordered a variety of food and shared. Nice deep house music with amazing decor and our server was probably the best server I have ever had. Definitely recommend this place to anyone that likes to try new and different food. This is the first review I have ever written on OpenTable so that should say something.

The food was underwhelming for the hype over this restaurant. Wagyu beef skewer did not have enough of the Korean bulgogi flavor, and the meat was gristly and chewy. Not what I would expect from Wagyu. The black cod was also bland. Miso sticky buns were not warm and were bland. Decent wine list but very expensive. Corkage fee is also very high at $35/bottle. Could have been an off night, so we will give it another try down the road. Ambiance is chic but the front entry is reminiscent of an old school Chinese restaurant and incongruous with the rest of the decor.

My son wanted to try Anime for his birthday. Anime did not disappoint. Highlights were the duck with blue cheese bao and the salmon appetizers. The fried chicken entree is a must!! And the carbonara noodles were also delicious. We will definitely be back!!

Entered Animae with my wife and was greeted by a polite and cheery hostess that made small talk to the table - appreciated the relaxed vibe despite being a more upscale restaurant (decorated at the front desk with little anime figurines :-)). Server was informative, easy going and cheery as well.

We ordered small dishes - highlights were the crispy rice salad with charcoal grilled shrimp - bright and satisfying slightly spicy flavors and a good contrast between crispy rice and slaw-like veggies, and soba noodles with Asian take on carbonara. Wagyu gyoza was “flat” both in presentation and taste. The loaded Japanese sweet potatoes were interesting... seemed more like a take on agedashi tofu, but still tasty - the moving bonito flakes weirded by wife a bit - i thought it was funny.

Dessert was halo halo and warm almond cake. The texture of the almond cake was great but a little lacking in almond flavor. The halo halo was the best rendition of it I’ve ever had - bright pineapple and berry flavors with a nod towards the traditional with some version of macapuno/flan (I’m Filipino btw).

All-in-all a great experience.

We were seated 45 mins past our reservation. The food is pretty heavy with sauce And oil. So if you are looking for a clean fresh taste, this is not the place. We ordered these dumplings that were filled with butter . My son cut it with his fork and it exploded across the table , getting butter all over his wife’s blouse. It would have been good to get a heads up from staff on that possibility. The butter tasted like plain butter, nothing special, no seasoning, and there was lots of it. The dumpling was tough and bland. We ordered broccolinni and they delivered a cauliflower dish instead. As it was all mixed up with a thick sauce, we could not even tell . It just tasted like mush. The waiter told us when we finished and then brought the broccollini, which was salty and smothered in a fishy sauce. They apologized and did not charge for it. The restaurant is beautiful and people watching was fun. But we won’t be going back

7 "foodie" friends sharing dinner family style enabled us to experience more things on the menu. The evening was a culinary journey that we won't soon forget! Animae is probably the best restaurant we've experienced in San Diego. Marcus was our waiter and his service was exemplary and with lots of humor. He really added to the fun of the evening.

I expected more considering the reviews online. The food was really ok- maybe I made bad food choices. The fried rice was super salty and the udon garlic lobster was just ok. The desserts were amazing.

Every course was new new set of flavor explosions . Tried a few things out of my comfort zone - octopus , lettuce wraps and was really enjoyable. Nice wine list , great service!
