Always excellent one of my favorite places to dine before going to the theater
This was supposed to be a wonderful Valentine’s Day celebration with my wife. We had reservations. First we were seated in an area so bright, it looked like daylight. Ambience scored a zero. After seating, we got water quickly. Little did we know, our wait had only begun. Half an hour later, we flagged down a waiter, only to be advised it wasn’t his table, he would wait on us, but that he was also working a party of 14. He took our drink and appetizer order. Drinks were there fairly quickly and appetizers a bit after. We the. Ordered our entrees with decent attendance by our impromptu waiter. The waiter that was working that area never spoke to us. Then the wait really started. We got our third round of drinks. Our cocktails were ok, but the poor was stingy and tasted it. The appetizers were excellent and we were eagerly anticipating the main course. That’s all the closer we got to our food. Our “waiter” started working his party of 14 and forgot us. By the time we had been there over two hours, still no food in sight and no one checking on us, we left. They comped our food and drinks with feeble excuses and and apologies. This was from the manager, who, by the way, walked by our table many times and never said a word. A real shame as I believe the food would have been outstanding. That said, the worst, hands down, service I have ever had in my life. No second chances on this one. 👎🏻
The dinner and service was just okay. The lobster tail was not as great of quality as we expected for spending $200 for dinner. Not upset but definitely will not be back. Also, we received a very strange call once we arrived home from the staff asking me if we had ordered a pineapple mojito? They suggested we ordered it and didn’t pay for it and when I questioned them further they seemed confused and then hung up. It was very odd as we only dined at our table and paid in full with a credit card and did not order anything close to a mojito.
Would not recommend for a special occasion. Maybe if nothing else was opened.
We had breakfast, pancakes and oatmeal off the menu, also a small buffet. Quick, good service and offered coffees to go. Casual atmosphere.
Great experience
The menu on open door IS NOT the same menu that is at the restaurant m. The whole reason I went was because of the open door menu. It was quite a disappointment to get to the restaurant and realize that what open door has online is the spring 2019 menu. The menu is small and limited BUT the food tasters great. Didn’t get to indulge in the lobster pot pie that no longer existed. But the steak and frites was really good and flavorful. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals as well.
Good food at a decent price. We went for Restaurant Week.
Great place, love the view of the Plaza and ambience. Very good server, went for restaurant week, so only once choice of salad, entrée and dessert. Would have been nice to have a better selection. However, the food was very good, nicely presented. Dessert was okay, needed a small scoop of ice cream or whipped cream, a little dry. Will go back again, though
I went to American Slang for 2019 restaurant week and was absolutely blown away! The food was excellent. That can not be said for this year. The food was sub-par, flavorless, cold and actually sad. It felt like the kitchen ran out of
Money, Inspiration or care! Sad. The place is a complete 180 from last year. The service was awful, our server was nonexistent. The manager comped our appetizer to make up for her, bit. Geez!
Long story short. Skip this restaurant!
Very over priced for the quality of the food. Had to send it back because of a hair, then it came out way overcooked. This place was as good and as nice as any other regular hotel restaurant. Nothing special about it.
We love the bar at this restaurant and have never eaten here, so we decided to try their NYE five course dinner. So not worth the $75/person. The service and ambience were good...great views of the plaza. The food was very underwhelming. We felt rushed through our five courses. They brought out the next course before we were done with the current one. My prime rib was cooked well, but it was cold. You could tell it spent some time under a heat lamp. Our server, Sydney did a great job and was very friendly and accommodating. It’s a shame the food missed the mark so badly. We will return, but only to enjoy the bar and great live music.
We had an amazing Christmas Eve dinner with our 5 children and grandbaby. Took incredible pictures in front of Kansas City’s plaza lights! Service and ambiance a must go to!
Surprised that service was pretty bad due to the restaurant being in a very good hotel. Server took a long time to even bring drinks, appetizer took awhile and dinner even longer. The plates were hot leaving me to think that it was left under heat lamp for a long time
Beautiful view of the Plaza lights this time of year. Service via Marcos was wonderful and the food also. Downside is the noise level.
Shay and Marco amazing!
A mixed experience -- the ambience is not warm or romantic, but probably accurately reflects a left bank bistro or brasserie with checked tile floors and marble table tops. Window-side tables gave a great view of the Plaza lit with Christmas lights. The service unfortunately was neglectful and slow. The food however was quite tasty -- the chicken with fettuccine entree and the lamb meat balls with rigatoni were both large in volume and attractive in presentation and flavor. The wine list was good with a wide range of prices.
Overall, an acceptable meal, but we would probably not return with so many other options nearby.
Overall decent - nothing to write home about. Wait staff was stretched thin and it was quite warm in the dining area. Brightly lit which made it feel more cafeteria like than it could have otherwise been. Food was solid - we had steak frites, filet and crab cake. If looking for a quiet, intimate spot I’d look elsewhere. For a group it works.
It took 20 minutes for a server to take my order and it wasn’t busy. It was $34 for coffee, an omelet and berries. Overpriced, especially for such terrible service.
There was a large party that seemed to get all the attention. They forgot our soup, then brought it out midway through our entrees so it was cold by the time we got to it. We saw our server once after taking our order. Seems like a good place to go with a big group for tea.
We ordered the Cobb salad. The blue cheese came in HUNKS. The lettuce was brown on the edges. The chicken had no flavor. Definitely not going back... ever
While the food was completely average, for the price point, not at all worth it. Our waitress was pleasant but not at all efficient and got several things wrong. I think she just wasn't trained properly.
Lovely brunch in a beautiful restaurant, but the noise level makes it difficult to have a conversation.
We had dinner at the bar and watched a game. The steamed mussels came out piping hot and were delicious. The signature Slang Burger was Grilled to perfection accompanied by some tasty Parmesan Truffle oil french fries. Top shelf selections at the bar for drinks. I had a couple ice cold Space Dust IPA’s.
We were there for a business lunch and were one of five customers there during that 90 minutes. We both ordered salads. I had the Cobb and was disappointed. The iceberg lettuce was thrown in big hunks (rather than chopped or shredded) in the bowl with brown avocados. I liked the Green Goddess dressing it was served with but otherwise it was less than average. The service was very good and it's a beautiful space. I would try it again but would order something entirely different.
Very cool looking place with beautiful views. The steak was tender and tasty but the sauce was delish!! There were 4 of us with two sharing a salad which was very good and no problem to share by two. The other entree was the scallop dish and was excellent!
We got there at 7pm and were just about the only diners but it filled up nicely later with a very good band for entertainment.
Our birthday afternoon tea was fun. The treats were yummy. Our waiter, Marcos, was very welcoming.
We had a lovely tea celebration for my sister's birthday. The food was visually appealing and quite tasty. Our servers were wonderful. They gave us privacy, but returned at exactly the right times to bring more tea, water, etc. For the experience we were looking for, it was perfect.
We loved dining at American Slang for Fathers Day!
Basic hotel food, nothing special. The Provence omelet wasn't bad. The veggies inside the omelet were tasty. I'm not a fan of goat cheese and was able to have cheddar instead, but probably could have done without cheese. The breakfast potatoes were cubed and fried, but they were hot and fresh. A bit expensive for what you get, but I guess it's to be expected for a meal at a hotel.
Service and food were top notch! The PEI mussels and Reuben were outstanding!
I really wanted to like this place. Great location and great view. But the rest just didn't add up to what we paid for our evening.
We had reservations but had to wait over 5 minutes for someone to come to the hostess station to seat us. Our table was ready. Then we had to wait another 5-10 minutes for waters and initial drink order. I know our waitress said she was new, but maybe her team should have been helping her a bit. They were not that busy.
We tried ordering appetizers to share between six people but apps came small and we had to cut things in half just so everyone could get at least one bite in.
The food tasted good but plate presentation was underwhelming.
Then we had to wait 10-15 minutes to settle our bill. In all we were they for at least two hours.
It's too bad there was no dining "experience" here to write home about. Next time I am entertaining clients in KC, I will likely look for alternate place to try.
It's super nice to have a place that does brunch take reservations, we had 7 and made the reservations early that same morning. Got seated immediately.
We had great service, food, time altho we were almost alone in the restaurant
Service and food was very good, it made the birthday celebration very nice.
Woefully behind on writing this review but still wanted to enter our thoughts. Marcos was our server and was spot on for service!! We never had to wait or ask for anything throughout the meal. He was pleasant even though he was the only server we saw working the dining room.
Both of our meals were prepared exactly as we wanted and HOT when they got to the table (a pet peeve of mine is a meal that has already cooled off when it arrives at the table).
Finally getting a chance to visit with Valerie a bit is always a treat!! We've known Valerie for a while and being able to catch up with her always caps the evening off perfectly!!
We love the fresh decor and view of the Plaza.
It was terrible...Food, ambience, service...We will never go back. They ruined our Valentines Date!!!
Understaffed, food was “fair”
We think this is the most romantic and upscale designed restaurant in all of the Plaza, if not the entire CITY! Adjacent to the famous bar and lounge of the hotel, this restaurant is privately owned. With the hotel's weekend entertainment , this is a "go to" place for a bite to eat before or after a movie or theatre...however the menu is mysteriously lacking any sumptuous entrees...perhaps the chefs can take another look at the midwest appetite for appealing dinner entrees and great appetizers? We love the floor to ceiling glass walls overlooking the iconic Plaza...we want to come again but we need a tastier, spicer, more authentic "plaza" menu...thanks.
