My co-workers and I had a wonderful time! We sat on the patio, and although it was a hot night, there was a nice breeze. The server had a good recommendation for wine and our entrees were delicious. The chef even made a special meal for one coworker who wanted a seafood appetizer, but without the fried food. So good! We even got a history of the home and learned that it was haunted. So cool!
Altamura was 95% empty while we were there. Service, contrary to other reviews, was excellent. The ambiance WAS affected by the empty basement environment. The food was only good, with nothing to set it apart, nothing to draw one to it. If you're there, you will eat well enough.
We loved the quiet, peaceful setting that made conversation easy and relaxing. The food--veal picata, salad, tomato bisque and desserts--was scrumptious. Portions were just right. We recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Absolutely a wonderful place to dine. Everything from the beginning through dessert was perfect. Our server, Jamie went above and beyond to make our experience one of the best we've had New Orleans.
Lovely atmosphere , knowledgeable waitress, generous portions, we'll be back!
Everything was wonderful! The staff could not have been nicer, very knowledgeable and willing to explain. Authentic Italian dishes with modern flair. Charbroiled Oysters were AMAZING. Live piano was a great.
We ate here the Monday after Jazz Fest. Monday's can be iffy, but the kitchen was on. We had a great experience. Amazing artichoke appetizer. We were sharing our entrees because they were both so good. We do not think Italian when we think NOLA and this was a delightful surprise. A really unique location. We will go back, hopefully soon.
The food was very fresh and absolutely delicious. It came out hot and in a timely manner. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere was perfect to talk to friends and we didnt feel rushed.
My friends and I ate here for a birthday dinner. The food was excellent! I had the osso bucco and it was phenomenal. There was nothing left on my plate. One of my friend's had the gnocchi and I joked that it was pillows from heaven. A few of us shared the tiramisu and it was very good as well. The only negative was that the coffee was a tad bitter.
Excellent menu With lots of enticing choices. Food was great-- sublime veal piccata. And best meatballs ever, per my husband. Lovely atmosphere, perfect for quiet conversations.
This was our first time here but we found the service attentive and the food great. The peach bellinis were different from the usual but refreshing. My husband had the meatballs--very good, and I had the veal piccata--delicious. They have valet parking, which is nice, and a very modern decor. We would definitely return.
Great Italian food! Loved the ambiance and the service was awesome. GM was very attentive and chef sent out an appetizer that will be part of a new tasting menu. Was a lovely evening with friends in their beautiful courtyard.
Seafood appetizer fair -very salty and scallops very fishy tasting. Entrees: shrimp linguine good, spaghetti fair,
Veal dishes good and halibut good but nothing that I isn't better somewhere else. Salad drowning in dressing and lettuce in such large chunks required s knife. Server
Took over 2 hours to receive food. Staff did not seem to be concerned about it. Other tables around us were complaining as well. Food was decent, but the wait and accompanying service left us with a thumbs down.
Food was very good but they have BIG kitchen problems. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our dinners (as did all of the other tables around us). I do not know why they cannot feed everyone in the restaurant (staff issues?) but until they get them worked out, steer clear.
This was our 4th time visiting. The first was very good the next two were ok. But now this one was mediocre. The service was pleasant but very slow. The food was good but not exceptional. The wine list needs work. A refrain we heard at other tables. They seem to be cutting the usual corners, like no bread unless you ask for it then there is a charge. There are lots of great places to dine in this City. This should be one of them. I hope they step their game up
Food & service were outstanding. Calamari, garlic scampi & Caesar salad were wonderful. Veal Marsala superb. Large portions. Valet parking a plus. Will return.
Not your typical Italian American restaurant. Each dish was vibrant and flavorful. From the house made bread (loaded with garlic butter with just the right chew) to the tira-misu. A wonderful dining experience. I'll be back.
Meal was great. Monday Night, so things were slow.
Staffing was thin...understandable as there were only 9 people eating in the restaurant that night.
Anxious to see more people here and how things develop
This was a great final meal for my collegues and me to wrap up a week long business trip in NOLA. Being that we didn't really plan ahead and found Altamura through Open Table a few hours before, we were pleasantly surprised with everything - ambience, service, and food. All of our meals were delicious (the Spaghetti and Meatballs is their sepeciality) and wine was good for those who had it. We ended with some yummy desserts - the Chocolate, Chocolate cake is huge and tasty. We would recommend to anyone looking for a cozy Italian dinner in the Garden district.
Excellent as always. Great food, great service
ambience is fine considering its a raised basement, food/service just ok considering the price
Has become one of our favorites. Has great food and great service in a lovely environment.
We had a really nice Sunday afternoon early dinner. The waiter was very knowledgeable both about the food and wine. The food and bread were excellent. We enjoyed the entire experience.
great restaurant w/good food, service and piano music!
The restaurant offers good Italian food with a little bit of seafood mixed in. If you don't mind waiting, it's worth going!
Horrible... We will never go back and you shouldn't either...... It took 2.5 hours to get our food and once mine arrived it was cold and chewy like it had been sitting out for the last hour. We sent the food back, talked to the manager and asked for our check... they refused to take off my UNEATEN main that was sent back....
The entire 2.5 hours we were waiting for our food not once did a single hot item come out of the kitchen for any guests... almost like they didn't have anyone cooking.
...Altamura ruined valentines our valentines dinner. Were never going back.
Horrible experience for Valentine's night. It took over 2 hours for food. Every table in the restaurant had the same experience- manager was walking around apologizing but never offered a complimentary drink or appetizer. Once the food came out- it was decent but nothing amazing. Overpriced and bad service.
Enjoyed two special dinner occasions at this Garden District gem. Wonderful dinner menu, wine and dessert options with excellent service. Wonderful dining atmosphere along the backdrop of a piano player in the bar area without being too loud. Enjoy dinner in the elegant modern dining room or on the comfortable modern patio in the beautiful historic district.
My new favorite in the neighborhood.
The atmosphere is ok but you can tell you are in the basement of a home which I did not like very much but I did like the decor. The food was very good but a little pricey on some items. Market price should never be a option on Italian food. Overall the food was good and the staff was attentive.
The food was delicious and fresh. The server was attentive, but not intrusive. Will return often.
In Big Easy for the weekend from Philadelphia for Rock and Roll from Marathon. Picked this place as one to "carb-up" the evening before. Did not expect to find such excellent Italian food in New Orleans. It was outstanding. Can honestly say I have never had better Spaghetti and Meatballs. Will return next time I am in town.
Good place. Need to update decor but food was absolutely incredible.
Love this place! I've visited several times now, anytime I have enjoyed it. The prices are not out of reach and the food is excellent. I do wish the garlic bread was served as a complimentary item rather than having to be purchased separately, but it is super yummy. I look forward to my next chance to visit.
We were looking forward to this for a few weeks and what a let down. The ambiance inside is underwhelming given the beautiful exterior. The food was good and well made. Our server seemed annoyed that we were there. She did not sell the food at all and did not give us any tips on what to choose. We were her only table at 8:30pm. Definitely do not recommend.
Bummer experience here. The restaurant was dead (even for a Monday). Food was okay, service was not good. Ambience sucks. I don't know how this place plans to stay open.
I just wish they had some sort of signage on the road because if you have never been there before, it just looks like somebody's house. Otherwise, AWESOME!
Be prepared to wait an hour plus for your food on a Saturday night
This was my third time having dinner at Altamura--once, when it had just opened and about 4-6 weeks after that, and as the previous two times, this dinner did not disappoint. The ambiance, service, and cuisine are seriously first-class. The portions are more than ample in size and authentic Italian fare. If you have not tried Altamura yet, you need to. I know I'll be back!
The food was excellent, however it took a while to get our food. The kitchen is extremely slow.
