The atmosphere is a lot of fun, the service was excellent, and the food was good. The biggest glitch was that we made our reservation on Open Table, and Open Table confirmed it. But when we got to the restaurant, the host told us that they had no room for our party, unless we wanted to sit at the bar (with a party of six who wanted to visit with each other, that didn’t work for the entire evening). The host couldn’t explain why Open Table confirmed our reservation, but in fact we didn’t have one. Fortunately, the bartender got the picture, and we were seated after not too long. So I suggest better coordination with Open Table. Other than that glitch, I recommend. It’s entertaining.
I would recommend Al's Place to anyone who is looking for a fun experience and a good beverage. The food is worth skipping, however.
This is such a cool place! The drinks and food are fantastic and the service is great. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. We were there for the live music which was really good as well! I will definitely be going back.
A speakeasy that is authentic in ambiance starting at the front door and then throughout. There is a date night special on Thursday nights, which is a great offer! The giggle juice came out flavorful, blended well. The food was hot (Mac n cheese w/ pot roast). Definite recommendation for a small or mid size group. There are tables, booths and a bar to choose from.
It was our first visit for the four of us. We didn’t know what to expect. We were greeted at the door in character and promised to mind our p’s & q’s. We were escorted to Al’s table. It was quite a treat! Fannie was our server and she was just delightful. She was attentive but not intrusive.
It was not a busy night, so we did get a lot of attention, all in good fun! The food was delicious and the drinks were also.
We will definitely go back and check out the brunch, etc.
We were in a group of 8 and from the moment we walked in our greeter make us feel welcome and excited about this new experience. The service time was adequate and the food was good. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs had not really taste, needed perhaps more seasoning. I tried my friend's risottos pot roast and that was delicious! Mia Dorr the performer was amazing!!! The customs for us to take pictures was a great touch and she looked stunning as well. We definitely go back.
I like so much this place.
See you next weekend 🤗
Everything was very lovely
We felt very good
Great service. Great food. Great music. Love the ambiance. I’d definitely come back.
Very fun experience! Definitely going back! The staff was very friendly and the food was tasty. Perfect date night spot
Very cool 1920's decorations and vibe. Food was delicious too.
This is a unique and fun place. It's intentionally hard to find as it mimics a 1920's speakeasy. Look for the green light and use the knocker. The drinks were tasty and not that strong. (But that's OK.) The food was good too. We had the spaghetti and the chicken alfredo. The pace was relaxed -- the waitress did not push us to take our orders. The ambiance was right out of the 1920's, complete with periodic "smoke" pumped in. The manager stopped by our table and was very friendly, explaining the drink and desert options in an informative, not pushy, way. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have a singer in the evening with a wonderful voice. If you go there from 5-6, there are drink and food specials. We'll be back, perhaps going on the bar side for a drink and a coney dog.
I have been to Al’s many times and have always enjoyed the music/singers, cocktails and food. This visit was disappointing. The singer, a guy this time, wasn’t entertaining at all. He kept waking on and off the stage singing. He wasn’t interested in being there. The pasta had no flavor, bland., awful. I really hope this was a one off situation.
Wonderful surprise. We will be back.
We had a fantastic time at Al's Place. The host was super friendly and attentive. The singer was superb and even took a request from my wife and me! We will definitely go back!
It’s a restaurant theater. Very entertaining, with an excellent live vocalist and flappers from the ‘20s as staff. Really nice Italian food that come out fast and hot.
Our dining experience was very enjoyable. Coming in the door we were transformed to the roaring 20s. in a very elegant way. The vocal performer Mia was outstanding in voice, presentation and song selection. The service was first rate throughout. The appetizer and salad were delicious. A very sweet evening in every way.
Al's Place is such a cool environment with the Speak Easy Theme! Thurs. eve Jazz singer was really good, service was excellent, and food was top notch. Love the Brie appetizer!
If you can find it you will have a fun time. Hard place to find becuase it is a "speakeasy".
We had a great time, enjoyed the 1920's atmosphere and food and entertainment. Our waitress was terrific. Get there early for happy hour and have a Chicago Dog for a $1.00.
Shrimp cocktail (huge shrimp) warm garlic bread, spaghetti and meatballs were delicious.
Very fun atmosphere. Music was great. Loved menu names and creative cocktail list. Would have liked more choices with red sauce.
Fun atmosphere, great time. Kind of spendy but was fun going back in time!
Great place for celebrations and date night! Fun drinks!
Wonderful experience! I didn’t know what to expect when I booked our reservations but it was so much fun. Going back again this weekend!
I can’t remember our waitress’ name, but, she so attentive as if we were her only customers. I had the Linguine primavera and my daughter had the Chicken Ala King. We were both very happy with our choice. She described both dishes to us to a ‘T’. The atmosphere was exactly like I would imagine a speakeasy starting at the front door. It is not handicap accessible, though. There are stairs to enter.
Discovered this online when looking for interesting restaurants during our weekend in Minneapolis. This experience did not disappoint us. Would definitely go back again.
Amazing place. In a category of it's own for ambiance. The best date destination...
Went on a double date with friends & had a blast at this unique find. The live singing wasn’t too loud that you couldn’t talk over it & the ambiance is definitely worth giving it a try. People of all ages there & the food was tasty.
Unique and fun ambiance. Live music. Service was excellent. Nice menu & wine/drink list. Food was mediocre.
Al’s Place went above and beyond for me on my birthday. The service was great!
such a fun experience, loved it here, the food and service were fabulous, will definitely come back again
Just a really good time. Went on Good Friday so not sure if that kept the crowd down or if the nice weather did. Definitely will be going back.
The best speakeasy experience in the Twin Cities! You will feel like you are back in time, and that Al Capone will walk in the door any minute. Drinks are spot-on, and handcrafted by a local expert mixologist. Food includes many of Al Capone's own favorites, recreated masterfully by the excellent chef. The live torch singer is the perfect touch!
Could not stand the fake smoke in the entire place. Food was mediocre with limited menu options. They put us near the singer so hard to talk due to her loud speaker system. They automatically tack on a 20% tip to the bill. Probably good for New Years Eve or Halloween because of the "dress code"
Such a cool experience all around! They go all out to make you feel like you stepped back in time to a real 1920’s speakeasy! Food and drinks were delicious!
Absurdly priced. 3 standard cocktails ran a tab over $50. They are good, but not that good.
Fabulous 1920’s themed speakeasy, under cover as a furniture store. Live music, fun cocktails, excellent service and good food. Highly recommend. It’s a unique place in the Twin Cities. Great surprise birthday dinner locale!
Al's Place was an amazing experience from start to finish. From the way you have to get into the place, how welcoming the staff were, the food was outstanding to leaving out the secret exit in the back. If you go I recommend dressing in 20's attire. The staff were so excited to see that and it made everything even more special!
What an amazing addition to Minneapolis! Such a cool atmosphere, fun/delicious drinks, and amazing food. A great spot for a girls night or any celebration. Highly recommend!
Super fun, all around. We had no idea if we were in the right place, but after we passed through the entrance and found our booth, we enjoyed the whole speakeasy vibe. Loved sitting by the soloist. Our server was attentive and warm. Thanks for the gluten-free options. It was a really fun evening.
