Our server was very congenial but super slow....about everything. She later explained that there was a large group that put their order in right before ours so it would be a wait (after 20 minutes of waiting for our salads). I asked for no croutons and got them anyway. We were told there would be bread and that took over a half hour to get. Our dinner was very good, and hot, when we did finally get it but the timing was long.
Always love dinner at Alpenrose!
Great atmosphere. The hostess gave us a great booth. The food came fast and hot. We will most def be back!!
As always we enjoyed our dinner. The service was wonderful and the chef made a special request. It was a great time with our grandson and his friend.
Our server Adrian made our visit extra special. He is an awesome server. Food was prepared exactly the way we ordered. Great meal!
Our go-to place when dining in Holland. Thanks for a great dining experience. Again!
Wonderful made from scratch pastries and variety of food. Nice yogurt parfait ingredients, salads, fresh fruit...price may be just a little high for the pretty standard hot breakfast offerings. So some of the hot food was hit or miss and orange juice was kind of watered down tasting. Seems like it should be $12-$15 instead of $19.
We really enjoyed the European dishes on the menu. We tried the schnitzel, lamb, and truffle ravioli. All of the entrees were delicious!
Wonderful time again. George is a great host and seated us promptly. The food was very good as always.
We dine here often. Our server Adrian is tops!!!
My hubby had the prime rib which he said was A+. I had the Michigan salad, mushroom soup and fish and chips. All was excellent except the fish would of been healthier with less batter. I’d prefer a light batter on the fish.
Overall, our dinner was an A-.
Made a 6:30 reservation when I arrived I was told I did not make a reservation or it was cancelled. I pulled up open table app6:30 was still available tried to book it app said you already have this reservation. Host was rude and refused to seat me. Said best I can do is seeT you up front in Cafe. We declined and left. Will not go back. 1 st bad experience with Open Table
Wonderful food and great service!
Our table was too big for the three of us. We had a hard time hearing each other. It was my sister's birthday and I was hoping for a special time, but it wasn't. We ordered dessert. My custard topped with fresh fruit didn't look anything like the model. It had mushed strawberries and two blueberries. I sent it back and I had her bring the cheesecake with raspberries. It was still frozen. 🙄 On top of that she explained to me why the first dessert didn't look like the model. That didn't sound like an "I'm sorry" to me. We usually love Alpenrose, but not on January 14. Also, they didn't have any record of my reservation!!!!😡
I was a little disappointed in the selection on the buffet, pork chops were dry and tough, not up to your usual excellence. We will try again, usually love you restaurant!
This was our 1st visit to Alpen Rose. It came recommended due to the European menu options. The food was very good. The greet at the door could have been a little more warm & upbeat. We came in off 8th St., not realizing there was another entrance on the side street. When we first entered, we came into more of a cafe and takeout area. The person behind the counter did not offer advise on where we needed to go until we asked. We then were told to go about 1/2 way down the hall to the exit sign and the host would be there. When we got to the host, it would have been nice to have someone say 'Welcome to Alpen Rose' and even ask if this was our first dining experience with them. Our service was adequate but really could have been a little more upbeat too. Will we return? . . . . Most likely for the European food.
Alpenrose is a place we keep coming back to. The food is excellent, the ambiance is so very pleasant and the memories we make while here are special. My parents live in CA and every year when they come the four of us - my sister, myself and our parents - have a very pleasant and cozy time together. Thanks for your European-American hospitality!
We were disappointed that it was buffet and not off the menu. We love the prime rib dinner. It was still good just, but not happy to get up and down.
This place always has an old world charm, complete with fireplaces and wood accents. A nice place to go on a cold Winter night. Our food was generally very good, but we generally felt rushed. I felt like we kept getting prodded to order because the kitchen was going to close at 8:00 p.m.. On open table I noticed they took reservations until 8:00 p.m.! How is that possible? Feeling like we are being pushed out put a slight damper on the evening.
Had a date with my daughter and we enjoyed the ribeye and parmessan chicken. Both were prepared perfectly. The green beans were fresh and delicious. The bread tasted freshly baked and was just right. We had some type of butter that topped it and some oil mix for dipping sauce that was also good, but not great. The server was knowledgeable and helpful. Only issue was I asked for iced tea and it took til more than halfway thru the meal to get it. I had a coupon where I had to buy 2 beverages to get a buy one entree get one entree deal. So I normally would order water. This was the only issue.
Restaurant was beautiful and tastefully decorated for the Christmas season, and was a nice mostly quiet evening to enjoy with my daughter. Wonderful time together!
We had a wonderful brunch at Alpen Rose. The food and service were great!
Our waitress was very friendly. Our dinner was not great. We ordered the whitefish and it was tough and barely tepid, the rice pilaf barely warm, broccoli almost cold. We weren't asked if we wanted a second drink with our meal, which based on the poor dinner, might have helped. She didn't check on our meals until 20 minutes after they were delivered so there wasn't really an opportunity to send them back. We may try again because we love the atmosphere and the quiet dining experience but the food needs to be better for us to recommend it to anyone!
We had a 10:00 reservation for brunch/buffet, which is when they opened. The food was cold. They need to start preparations earlier for the first reservations. There were also no tags on the buffet items so we had to open all of them up to find out what was inside, which did not help keeping them warm.
Food was amazing and the server did an excellent job. I just thought the dining areas could use an upgrade and we were sort of put out by the tray with the stack of dirty dishes that were left next to our table. All in all a nice restaurant with great food
Tonight's experience was disappointing, we've had better experiences in the past, just not tonight.
The food was quite good, but the service was extremely poor and slow. The server never took our drink order. After several minutes, she greeted us, told us the specials and walked away. She returned several minutes later and asked if we were ready to order our food. I asked for my daughter's applesauce to come out first and I'm pretty sure the server forgot it as it took about 15 minutes for applesauce. She never once checked back to ask how our entrees were after they were finally served and paying our bill took way too long as well. We had our credit card on the table for several minutes before she ever gave us the bill. For the price point, I would expect much better service.
Food is good but the service was extremely slow. Have been here many times and never like this. Had a reservation for 5:15 and didn’t get out of there until 7:15. We didn’t have complicated orders or anything. Think they were just short of help
We went to Alpen Rose for our Anniversary dinner.
Our server Adrian is the top server we have ever had!
He is so personal and very knowledgeable of the entrees and other items on the menu.!
The fish and chips is back on their dinner menu!!!
This is my hubbies favorite. I had salmon and switched the potatoes out for the risotto! It was great!
I can’t forget the cream of mushroom soup, it is the BEST EVER!
It’s one of our favorite places to dine.
Food and service were average. We were there for Sunday brunch.
Great food and service as usual. Went recently for Sunday Brunch and it was very nice.
Love the soup bar and the Michigan salad.
Love receiving the coupons that are used with gratitude.
One meal came out after rest of party done. Sat in the cafe part of restaurant with constant expression machine noise and cold air from door blowing on us.
First time eating here and the brunch was amazing and our family loved the variety. However, wish they offered more drink options like pop and milk.
Fantastic Sunday Brunch! A wide variety of selections and everything is fresh.
The staff seemed on the younger side with less experience than typically found in a long time establishment. Perhaps then it might be that we are just older Boomers that haven’t quite acclimated to the newer standards of Millenial service.
Service aside, Alpenrose is consistently good solid quality meal service. I wish we had one like it in the suburbs of Chicago. But we like having Alpenrose as a choice whenever we visit family in the Holland area!
My husband & I went for lunch on our Anniversary. The meals we're really good. I was slightly disappointed because what I really wanted was only on the dinner menu. The waitress was very nice and there was not a lot of noise
Alpen Rose is an authentic Bavarian inn on 8th Street in Holland. The food is somewhat pricey, but excellent. The German dishes are true to the European originals. Service was polite, prompt, and efficient.
My lasagna was so good and my husbands onion soup was good but don’t think it’s a fish place . Calamari was so over cooked it was so crunchy and crab cakes were just so so .
Waited 45 minutes for crapes that came out cold. When mentioned it to the waitress - she came back from the kitchen saying that it's how "they usually are". Got up and left
As usual, Alpen Rose provides European style food and ambiance. My lemon cake dessert was amazingly delicious. The sauerbraten was a little tough but the spaeztle qnd red cabbage were tasty. I enjoyed the Spaten beer with my meal. Altogether, a nice evening.
When I had arrived, they didn’t have our reservation even set up. They did have seats available right away so easy to move on. My real problem is that the small plate that I had ordered was reheated. 2 ways you can tell is the waitress mentioned the bowl was very hot. So either they put it in the oven to make or reheated it. Once I tasted it, it was clearly reheated. This was our 1 year engagement anniversary so I was willing to move on from this. The scallops I received were pretty bland overall. The risotto was very delicious and the veggies were great. The waitress was very kind and patient while my fiancé ran back to our car for the money we had forgotten. The place is really cool and I’d go back again on the account the food is fresh. Even my fiancé who is not a foodie even mentioned how the food was okay. He ordered the prime rib. This place came recommended so I was just disappointed on how the food turned out.
The food choices and specials were great. The restaurant was beautiful.
