Alley Cat Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Did not like this restaurant at all. Extremely noisy. A gang of drunks were roaring at each other (it was 5:30!) and annoying everyone else in the place but the management did nothing about it. Food was sloppy and very very over seasoned. Not spicy, just slopped over w unneccessary sauces by the ton. They didn’t trust the ingredients. Everything buried under layers of gloop. The place is really nicely designed and the views are gorgeous and the service was fine but, because the food was so bad, we’ll never go back.
Alley Cat went 4 for 4 with our dinners - they were fantastic! Stuffed oysters are a great appetizer. Lobster roll was delicious as was the seared tuna. Menu has a nice array of entrée choices between meat and seafood and full meal vs. lighter choices. Nothing outrageous that needs waiter explanation - just a very appealing menu. Desserts were very good too! We will definitely come back.
We went there for restaurant week. Everyone had something different and it was all outstanding. The wait staff was exceptional. We must have had 7 or 8 people taking care of us (party of 4). The views of the river were great. I was born in Cleveland and I have seen many deaths and rebirths of the Flats. I think someone finally got it right. If you have not been down to the Flats recently, then you need to go. And, put this on your list of places to eat.
We arrived early in time for Happy Hour. Hostess staff and wait staff were very welcoming and attentive. The hamburger and French fries were delicious - especially with the "tomato jam". We also had oysters on the half shell served with cocktail sauce which were very good. I would recommend to a friend but I think it would be better in the Spring/Summer with the doors open.
We had made reservations, but were offered what we believe was the worst table in the restaurant. Our next option was the bar. Then we were offered the middle table in the dining room by the bar. We accepted that table because we did not want to wait for another table that might not be any better. Being in the middle of the room, we had everyone walking around us. It was a little distracting, but we were able to have an enjoyable date night. The service was fabulous and the food was great.
I was unpleasantly surprised by this trip to Alley Cat as I've been here once before and it was excellent. The food was the disappointing part during this visit as the service was great! I enjoyed the view as it's right on the water and it's romantic during the evening - even though we were seated right next to the women's room. I may return a third time for a tie breaker, but as of now I'd be torn to recommend it to anyone.
I went to dinner with five other ladies before a play. Servers did not know what the fish of the week was. There was a menu on the table with a special 3 course meal for restaurant week. The servers were not sure of the price and said they were not pushing that menu. The salads were good. Had to send one meal back because we received a rare, actually bloody, pork steak. They sent back the same piece of meat reheated and chard to a crisp. The manager stopped over to apologize and it felt very insincere. I actually noted him walking around looking lost earlier. Maybe he was just New. The views were great, good ambience, they do make a good martini and white sangrias. I would probably only return for the view, cocktails and light snacks or appetizers. I wouldn’t consider it a fine dining restaurant for foodies. Note: the manager did not charge for the pork steak dinner. However we did send it back and she didn’t have time to wait on another meal to be prepared as we were going to a play. He also did not charge for her two glasses of wine.
Seafood was good (for Cleveland)! We went out on a super cold Monday night for a business meal -- 4 women. 3 Clevelanders and 1 D.C. gal. The D.C. gal is more in tune with seafood fare, but overall, the place is great -- and location spectacular. Obviously on Monday night -- not very hip or busy -- but I will return on warmer day (to take advantage of awesome patio views). Our service was fantastic -- and knowledgeable. If you are entertaining a client who is accustomed to impeccable seafood from the east or west coast...this place may NOT be the shining star. However, local Clevelanders will appreciate the location and get their seafood groove on! Might be a little pricey for younger patrons, but expected for this type of place! Wine and spirits selection is fantastic! EXCELLENT Bloody Mary's -- made to your taste and choice of ingredients!
We have eaten at this restaurant before and were surprised when the Sunday brunch was not good. The food on half of the bar was cold, the fish was fishy, the carved meat was dry and the options were limited. They did let me order from the menu for my son since there was nothing on the buffet that he would eat (not even pancakes or waffles for kids). What we ordered from the kitchen was excellent. I think they should stick with their customers ordering off of a menu...brunch is not their thing..nothing to be ashamed of when you just stick to what works. Our review is only for the Sunday brunch. Their dinner, lunch and Mother's Day menu items are excellent.
we were celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. we were seated at a great table with a wonderful view. Our server was great, very helpful about the menu and the wine list. She was very friendly but not over bearing, just the right amount of service! Each our our starters were fresh and great. Our main meals were outstanding. We had a great time and will come back on our next visit to Cleveland!!
We waited ten minutes before anyone acknowledged us sitting at the table. Overpriced and everyone was rude, it was my birthday and we were so disappointed with the treatment we received that we left and went to a different restaurant.
The service was awful and the wait time was way too long. I don’t like to be rushed but that was ridiculous. Manager had to come over and take my boyfriends meal away because it wasn’t edible. I never heard him complain about food in 7 years. Manager was great but everything else was not enjoyable except the atmosphere outside dinning.
It was mine and my husbands first time there. We were celebrating our birthdays. And I made sure to make reservations 3 days in advance but when we got there every table that I kept asking about that was outside they kept saying it was reserved so we got stuck eating in just partial shade, I was the one who took the hit and sat in the direct sun spot. But overal service was good (minus the water spill the hostess caused and the food runners constantly picking up plates that we were still picking off of without asking us... but the food and the atmosphere was spectacular.
We had a reservation and were excited to celebrate a birthday here but ended up waiting 30 minutes before we got sat for our reservation. The service was good but the people around us were so loud we could barely hear each other. It just wasn't the romantic and relaxed atmosphere I had expected. Honestly food was just okay, nothing to go on about. Very expensive for what it was. I think there are many better places in Cleveland worth the money.
