Incredibly overpriced and pretentious steakhouse in Pasadena. Food is nothing special and better steakhouses can be found. Drink menu is bizarre - only two types of beer offered, no Bacardi, other common liquors not available also. I guess even there liquor distributor doesn't like them.
We so enjoyed tonight. For our appetizer, the Hamachi shooters were incredible. The ribeye was done to perfection. We first came to Alexanders a few years ago to see Manny. Unfortunately, he no longer works there. But to our surprise, Frederick is our new Manny! Lol What a gem of a person. Totally professional with the best wit and humor. We will definitely be returning. Next time with friends.
Our server Eddie Gonzalez was excellent and the food was fantastic
We went for our anniversary and the service was outstanding! We were made to feel special. All of our dishes were extraordinary!
It was amazing! The food was spectacular but the service was even better. You will feel like a king or queen.
7 Year Anniversary
Delightful place for a terrific meal. Gorgeous view of Pasadena City Hall, and staff was superb!
I absolutely loved the experience and my meal at Alexander's. The service was phenomenal on all accounts. Can't wait to go back.
Outstanding in every way. Fine dining at it’s best
Excellent value and experience. A couple of hiccups with the service, but quickly remedied. Food was delicious. Lovely ambiance. Amuse bouche and a fun dessert included.
The uni toast/bread/desserts were great, but our Porterhouse Steak and our server was not. I forgot his name, but the other waiters called him the "angry French guy". Also, this is a steakhouse, so for your non-steak items to be better than your meat is embarrassing.
Reservations were at 8:45pm. We knew that the porterhouse takes 45 min, so we placed the order as soon as we were seated. The steak got to us at 1 hr and 15 min. It was prepared at the perfect medium rare, but very under seasoned.
When our server asked about our food, I told him our concern. He said, " oh, you want more salt!? You should've said something, I'll give you all the salt you want! We always prepare it with less seasoning so it doesn't take away the flavor of the meat". Really, is that what you're going to tell customers? I don't need my steak salty, just not bland for a beautiful porterhouse! My husband and I were appalled by his response. We definitely are not going to be going back.
Food was good. Our server took care of us. Overall experience was great!
Came here to celebrate my mom’s birthday. They greeted her with a birthday card and a round of champagne for us, as well as an extra birthday dessert with a candle at the end. I thought those were nice touches. However, the service is inattentive. Some of the food came out lukewarm and we had even finished the entree before one of the sides arrived, which I cancelled. They included it in our takeaway and took off the charges of the subpar food, so great service recovery. The new chef’s cooking is too salty, more catered towards Americans than Chinese.
Wonderful service with manager and staff very accommodating.
Our experience was average. The Steak was amazing, but the sides were only ok. We were put in a back room that was super boring, service was beyond slow, and the vibe was lacking. Glad we tried this restaurant, but won’t be going back.
Wonderful, courteous service throughout meal.
Exotic, creative, innovative twists on familiar food, all impeccably prepared and served, an army of attentive servers led by a maitre d' whose patience and concern with customers' allergies, sensitivities, and neurosess, is admirable; lovely location.
Alexander's is our special occasion restaurant. They take amazing care of us - our waiter even remembered what wine we ordered almost a year after the last time we were there. The food is outstanding, the service is incredible. Just a great, great experience.
We had a party of 9, the entire evening flowed nicely from beginning to end, The Waiter was amazing he gave us recommendations regarding our Meat Choices and types of Wine to have.
The Steak was picture perfect and I will tell you the sides were tremendous.
Expect to have an amazing Steak, you Will pay more than what other steak houses charge but this place is Worth every penny
This was our third time at Alexander's and it has been consistently outstanding for it's quality of food, preparation, service, ambiance and overall dining experience. The rib eye chop is tender and delicious - my favorite item on their menu, and in my opinion, the best in LA.
The staff were attentive and friendly, and we appreciate their explanation of each course.
This is the best steakhouse in Los Angeles.
Came with a party of four. Everyone had the Chef’s Tasting Menu. Every course was absolutely fantastic - not enough good things to say. Very attentive service as well!
I came into dinner thinking this was going to be just another steak house - I was way off in that assumption (in a good way).
This was our 2nd time at Alexander's. We really like this restaurant. Great food, great service and great ambience.
We were seated immediately and welcomed with birthday cards for our two birthday guests. Great variety of appetizers, entrees and side dishes. Especially enjoyed the "extras" that were complements of the chef. Will definitely return.
Food was very good and service was professional but a little pushy. Ambiance is very nice but there was a large group near us with a crying baby that made it a little uncomfortable.
I thought over priced - the filet mignon was under cooked (i ordered medium and it came out red/raw in the center). There are other steakhouses in my area where the steaks are just as good and the prices 25-30% less.
Good for a special event I guess but not a good choice for regular dining.
They claim their special cuts from Japan are world class and not available elsewhere. Maybe true, but $115 for a 3 ounce portion??
Awesome service and wonderful steaks. I had the A5 Hokkaido Wagyu and every bite of it was delicious. Rib eye was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I would recommend this place for special occasions.
Great customer service attentive. Amazing cuts of meat along with Japanese Wagyu. 5th time here and will continue to come for great steak and attentive service!
Amazing service. Amazing steaks and drinks! Will go back again.
A most disappointing experience. I've been to Alexander's once before and it was fine, with competent service, albeit with inappropriately elevated prices. This time, we took my nephew and his wife out for dinner and we were met with deplorable service from the outset. We were essentially ignored for 10 minutes, then I had to request we order drinks, then we waited another 10-15 minutes with no drinks. I had to also request we order our meals as our server seemed to just be meandering around with no sense of urgency. I complained to management and a backup server proved far more competent. The original server just blamed the bar and things beyond his control. The food was ok but, again, not worth the expense. Due to the inexcusably poor service, they took the cocktails off the bill, but not the wine and beer. Really lame. Management apologized, but only in a generic "things just weren't going well tonight" way. Obviously, never again.
Food was not ok at all. Service was ok people were nice but the food agh.
Couple of the appetizers were ok but the rest was horrible.
We bought the most expensive meat and the tomahawk steak and the biggest ribeye it was mostly lard and fat not clean meat at all. Not cooked well either.
And for 6 people we spend almost $1500+
Wouldn’t go back there again.
I’m a Fleming’s, Morton’s, kind of a guy and I had high hopes for this place but was very disappointed.
Best meal of my life
Food was on point. The wagyu did not disappoint. The service was not up to par. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The plates were not presented together in unison. A lack of explanation of the chefs idea of putting the plate together. Wines were already poured and brought to the table prior to our plate being served. The wines were not explained how the it compliments the dish, as well as I did not get to see the wine bottle it was poured from. Melanie took the time to assist us with anything we needed. Food was excellent, but expected better service than received.
We thought the food was incredible. Prime rib and New York strip were delicious.
We would 100% go back for Chelsea, our server. We also had the patio to ourselves, which was lovely. The bartender(s) definitely know how to make cocktails! The breads & butters were outstanding - who knew I would love beef infused butter!?
But....the food was just okay. There is just too much sauce and too much forced flavor on the dishes. They seem to source really lovely ingredients but don't let the ingredients speak for themselves.
The 36 oz bone in Jorge comes out sliced from the kitchen! No one wants a pre sliced steak...all the juices escape.
The broccolini was drenched in soy sauce and the KFC (cauliflower) was smothered in spicy sweet n' sour sauce. We had a lovely time because we had incredible service but the food will not be calling us back.
Fine dining at its finest.
This is my 2nd at Alexander. The first time was an amazing experience. And the 2nd time was a bit disappointing. Service was rude but food was good
Excellent attentive service. Very good food. Nice wine selection.
My problem: being underestimated as a diner. Maybe they thought I was a rube who didn't know the difference between a good table and the worst table in the house. Seated near a large party, at the back of the room, near the drink station and the oddest shaped table I'd ever seen -- we felt like step children at a Thanksgiving meal. It was embarrassing. I had never been so humiliated by a hostess and I won't soon forget that. Then to be told that they were fully booked and couldn't re-seat us to a more desirable table WHEN we saw several open tables was a further slap in the face. Although they were kind enough to move us to another table -- only after we threatened to walk -- it was too little too late. Additionally, one of the tables we suggested was never used the entire night.
Was the steak worth it? No. It was just good. I have certainly had better. The best thing about the meal was not the steak, but the very complex green salad with burrata cheese. Crazy that at a steakhouse, I preferred the green salad over my choice of blackened rib-eye. We also thought the hamachi shooter was excellent and inventive. I would also recommend the pork belly starter. The rest, not so much.
Once we were re-seated, I was impressed by how hard the waitstaff worked to redeem Alexander's. We loved our waitperson and can honestly say that he saved the night for us. I would not recommend Alexander's Steakhouse to friends or co-workers because I couldn't run the risk of my friends being treated as poorly as I was.
Wonderful experience. Perfect to celebrate my son’s 25th birthday. The service as always was exceptional and the food delicious !
Service was impeccable as usual. Food was well prepared and incredibly tasty.
