Good time and good food.. met the owner. Really cool person.
Normally, I love ALC. My wife and I come here several times a year. Frankly, this time it was underwhelming. The steaks were not seasoned very well and most of the food was just bland. The steak soup had HUGE chunks of beef that I had to cut because it was 3-4 bites worth. Overall, love the restaurant, but this time it was just ok
The male host was rude but Heather saved the day with great service and a warm smile!

Steaks were great and the service was even better !!!
Inconsistent cook across 3 orders of the same steak. Poor meat quality.
Nice place for good steaks and seafood. A little loud but overall great experience.
Dinner with my mom. Was a great experience.
Third time to eat with our UT student son. Love the steaks, ambiance and location. Went back Saturday night after symphony for dessert. Always a good time.
I know its a steak house, that being said, do not order the fish.
My son loved his filet mignon, my tuna was so overcooked I could not cut it.
The food was excellent as always. The steaks were cooked to perfection. I would like to see more non-spicy appetizer and vegetable options on the menu. My palate can't take jalapenos, spicy peppers, or spicy sauces. Still, I was able to navigate the menu and the food that came was great.
This place used to be known as one heck of a great independent Austin Steak House. Now, it seems to be more of a "family restaurant" and I don't mean that in a good way. I'm talking chain food, ala Lobster hut or Macaroni Grill. I used to really love this place. At one time the service was very friendly, special and attentive. I hate waiting around eternally for my wait person. Once upon a time the food was incredible. Not so true anymore. Apparently, the steaks might still be pretty good although every cut that was ordered at my table, came overcooked. I ordered the duck and ate maybe three bites. Every dish seems to come to the table swimming in pork rinds, butter or both. And, what is this thing about featuring sauces? I always find that to be suspect, like, what are they trying to cover up. The second to the last time I went, I got what used to be their version of a wedge salad. This last time I struggled to find something else but never did except for a side of broccoli, I probably should have gone with the greens. The rest of the family struggled through, enjoyed there overcooked Steaks while piling on the chimmy churi, except my oldest son who was commiserate about the conversion to Family Restaurant from fine dinning. After all, through the years, we have spent many a family gathering in the John Wayne Room. Alas, we would prefer the fine dinning.
A favorite place for special occasions. We had a couple in to visit. We were there for both of their birthday. Steaks were great. Our waiter, Josh, and other staff were excellent. Thanx for the complimentary birthday desserts for our 2 guests.
On the downside, the seafood was not good. Either the seafood should be upgraded or deleted from the menu. It was that poor.
Also, unfortunately, 3 of us ordered escargot & all suffered some discomfort a few hours later. I don't think we will get that again.
We've always liked ALC. The decor, the familiarity & the menu are all very good. But, please do something about that seafood fare. We will be back!
We went in for a good steak and came away happy we decided to go to ALC. The steaks were wonderful, very tender, and great taste
My wife and I went for our first wedding anniversary and had a lovely time.
As always, this is my husband's birthday dinner choice; and as always, the food was fantastic from the escargot to mushrooms to the bread to the steaks to the wine to the dessert. Service was particularly outstanding this visit, and there was such wonderful attention given to my husband for his birthday. When the water approached the table, he immediately wished him a happy birthday, remembered to bring out crème brulee with a birthday candle, remembered the birthday discount; and was just on point with every request. He provided polished service and added to the excellent experience.
Underwhelmed. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing to justify the price.
I wanted to take my guy for a very special meal for a special bday and knew this place would be memorable.
Excellent service bth times we have eaten there. Steaks delicious and my wife loves the snow peas!
This is one of my very favorite places in Austin and I have lived here all of my life. A+
They were very accommodating! I spoke to Scott on the phone just an hour before our reservation and said our baby sitter bailed on us and so we were coming with our 4 month old. He said no problem! We got there and they sat us in a little secluded area where we were very comfortable, still close to the main area but where it was a little quieter for the little one. The wait staff was friendly and just attentive enough, to where I felt like we never wanted for anything but they weren’t overbearing with the “Is everything ok?”s. The food was amazing! I can’t believe I finished everything, but it was so well made and tasty that I really can believe it after all. My wife felt the same and is wanting to know when we will be returning already! “Hopefully very soon!”, I said.
Best steak in Austin!
Porterhouse steaks were great! Atmosphere was very 80’s. Enjoyed the evening. In the middle of a Friday night during SXSW the place was not full.
As always, ALC was exceptional.
Wonderful experience for our 36th anniversary! Our waiter was excellent and the food was delicious. Highly recommended especially for special occasions!
We had a blast and great meal all wrapped into one. On vacation in Austin with BF`s for fun and good food, we found it here, the owner was awesome and treated us like family, drinks on him for our 40th and just because he wanted to, service was awesome as well and the steak I had was as good if not better than some of the world class steakhouses I have been to in Philly, NY, D.C. and San-fran, WOW!.....If you live or are just visiting Austin this is a must do, enjoy and have fun!

We’ve been customers for many years. Always great food and service. Never failed before until Sat 3/10/18. Had reservations but we’re taken to very back room. Only couple. Many tables in main dining area. Server great no issues there. Escargot fantastic. Shared ribeye steak was disappointingly not tender as many in the past. Not sure what was going on that night. Sides excellent but baked potato cold. Will come back again to give another chance. But very unlike prior visits.
Went to ALC to belatedly celebrate my son’s birthday. Service was very good. The complementary dessert they served (pecan tart) was excellent. Steaks were somewhat disappointing in that they were good, but I wouldn’t say they were great or excellent for the price. Pappas Bro’s is our go to steakhouse in Dallas and by which we compare other steakhouses. For about the same price, I personally felt that the ALC porterhouse wasn’t as tender and flavorful compared to the one’s I order from Pappas Bros. I do note, however, that the steaks at ALC come with one side whereas everything from Pappas Bros. is a la carte. So perhaps it is not an apples to apples comparison price-wise.
Steak ordered medium rare, came out medium well. Others at my table also ordered their steak medium rare, and was cooked nicely, but both steaks were sinewy and chewy.
Try somewhere else fot a really good steak cooked to perfection.
Awesome dining experience. The shrimp cocktail appetizer followed by the 22oz ribeye with the lobster tail add-on was a perfect dinner to share between two people. Great value; perfectly-cooked and seasoned food; friendly waiters. Will be back for special occasions!
Our go to place for a great steak, in fact, the best steak in Austin! Service is always wonderful, highly recommend the rib eye and filet.
ALC is our favorite place for char-grilled lobster. This time it was so tender it just fell out of the shell. We had a great waiter, who understood the food and provided a relatable personal perspective. He helped me order Ahi Tuna that was cooked just perfect for my taste. He understood our needs well and provided great service.
ALC was a great experience and the perfect spot to celebrate our 18th anniversary. The food was great and the service was exceptional. This was our first time dining here and we will definitely be back.
The food and service were very good. The ambiance is lacking. The ladies room is slightly comical as the beams are so low the mirror is at belt level!
I'd go back next time I am in Austin.
Always a great experience. One of my favorite Austin restaurants . Food, sort ice and ambiance all excellent. Steaks, it course, top notch.
ALC is one of my favorite restaurants--but not Sunday night. I will never go on Prime Rib night ever again. There seemed to be a different vibe, and not a good one. Also, even though I made my reservations long in advance, and indicated it was a special occasion, we were stuck in the back of the restaurant in a very small table where the atmosphere was terrible. The waiter was not very attentive. He was very slow. He also mistook my order of a nice bottle of wine for a glass of wine instead. I told him to forget the bottle, and bring another glass for my friend. It took 10 minutes him to get his glass of wine. The Oyster Texefeller appetizer was so salty it was almost impossible to eat. The prime rib was below the quality I would expect of a restaurant like Austin Land & Cattle, which is typically known for it beautiful cuts of meat. We were not even asked if we wanted to order any of your wonderful special sauces. It has been a little while since I had been to ALC for dinner. So I hope this was not an indication of the quality going downhill. Hopefully it was just an off night But I was really not impressed at all.
Really enjoyed the ambiance especially as this was our anniversary. Great service, noise level was more than acceptable. Parking could be a challenge
Always a great meal, bone-in ribeye never disappoints. Worst part of the experience is always finding parking in the very limited space available. Otherwise the food and service is always great.
We went for our Valentines Day dinner. Had the New York Strip by 44 Farms. BEST STEAK I HAVE EVER HAD! Sides were also good. Will be coming back for sure.
The food was bland. We expected better.
Cozy older joint. Great steak! Glad they had a salt shaker.
