From the family that brought you Trattoria La Siciliana—a fixture of Berkeley’s Elmwood district for the past twenty years—Agrodolce is a sister restaurant located in the heart of Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. We are housed in a beautiful brick building that is equipped with a full bar and outdoor seating. Serving authentic Sicilian food, the type you’d only expect to find in the alleys of Palermo, Agrodolce features unique and truly authentic food.
We had a reservation for Mother’s Day and a birthday. We were not greeted, but told to “hold on”. We were then not seated for 10/15 minutes. They clearly overbooked. It was okay, maybe if the service was better we would have enjoyed the food and wine a bit more.
First Mother’s Day Brunch in over a year. Food and service were very good, only problem was noise level.
Agrodolce has a large patio with all the great food and friendly service you remember from before COVID. It's definitely time to go back!
We were seated 45 mins after the time of our reservation. The food was not that great, too many people and it wasn't a very pleasant experience. I was expecting something better.
the food quality was pretty bad, servers were constantly forgetful and not paying attention.
Food is DELICIOUS and the atmosphere is beyond lovely. The live jazz was heavenly. Definitely going to be back.
The service wasn't very good. Our waitress kept leaving us midway giving her our orders and then most of the dishes brought out weren't even ours and took about 3x longer than expected. They also rang up several of our items at the wrong price, so we had to contest our bill after dinner.
There was a nice jazz band outside though. Would come back if the service improves.
Pleasant, friendly and cordial place in Berkeley to enjoy the good Italian style food.
It was great but you guys were very busy. However, we had plenty of time and didn’t mind. The one thing is that we sat at the table right next to the road. When the bus or large trucks we go by it was quite noisy. Other than that, everything was wonderful. The food was awesome!
Service was extremely slow - it took over 1 hour to get our main courses.
Quality of the food has declined significantly. The Fritura misto was hard, dry, and overcooked with a few tiny shrimp. My favorite dish, the bucatini with the sardine sauce, lost it's distinctive garlic and fennel taste which was replaced by some tomato sauce. Much less sardines as well. The mushroom ravioli was the bright spot, although there wasn't much of it. The house white wine was also pretty good. The tiramisu was decent but was mostly whipped cream and lacked enough mascarpone cheese. Service was spotty, with one experienced waiter and one very amateurish one.
OMG, what a horrible experience. They were very busy on a Sunday night (we had reservations) and sat down at 6:30 for dinner. We ordered within 15 minutes (2 drinks, a split salad, and 2 entrees) and got our drinks in a few minutes. Our waiter was very busy and we asked if we could have more bread while we waited for our meal. He let us know he was too busy and probably couldn't get us the requested bread (huh???). he never got us the requested bread. After an hour and a half, we asked about our SALAD. We were told it would be out soon, which it was. After 2 hours, we gave up and told them to cancel our order. We paid for the drinks and salad and left. WE WON'T BE BACK.
Tip to the restaurant... If you are busy, don't pretend everything is normal. Set expectations with your customers. If we knew it was a 2+ hour wait for our food, we would have made a different decision and eaten elsewhere.
I was very excited to try Agrodulce, we were really big fans of Trattoria La Siciliana.
As I arrived, I checked in with the manager (owner). I recognized him from the other restaurant. My family and In got seated right way.
We were greeted by girl with red hair. Instantly, I felt her abrupt, not warm, negative energy come to the table. I was very patient at first, but then it was every time she approached our table. I proceeded to tell the manager, and I was hoping it would it get better. A good manager in my eyes, would do something for us. Comp some of the bill, a free desert. Nothing at all. We had reservation at 5:30, we didn't get out of there till 8:00pm. I get it gets busy, but it took a very long time to get our food and assistance.
I really want to come back, but I hope they get their act together.
I would only recommend if I went back there and the service was better.
Thats my review.
One of the best restaurants in Berkeley. Delicious food and great staff (who work extremely hard).
As always, the food was great, and so was the delightful wine. It was a bit chilly eating outdoors, but that is not the fault of the restaurant, and I look forward to returning when indoor dining is safe. Keep up the great work!
great food, service was lackluster. i hope they improve it ;-)
The service was amazing and everyone was so kind and attentive! I would absolutely go back!
Excellent everything! Sat outside and the weather was a bit chilly. Otherwise, everything was very tasty and server was attentive and friendly. Mushroom ravioli is a must!
Great dinner. Food delicious. Group of High School musicians provided jazz music which added to the nice atmosphere. Managed to forget my cc with the bill which the restaurant immediately brought to my attention.
Good Sicilian food, nice ambiance, lovely proprietor.
Several years ago, when the restaurant first opened, I wrote a nasty review of the place. Pretty good food. Disastrous service. Since then, I've been back 6 or 7 times---most recently a few nights ago, when I sat outside. The Sicilian-inspired food is now superb, wonderful strong flavors. Service is very much improved. The owner goes out of his way to make sure everything is going well. The seafood risotto is amazingly good, as are the lambshanks and Sicilian salads. Very highly recommended.
The food was outstanding, and we're picky foodies who have lived in Italy. There were plenty of interesting vegetarian options as well as classics that were perfectly executed. The service was friendly with just the right amount of checking in. The atmosphere was excellent. We loved it and plan to go back often.
Wonderful food with real Sicilian flavors (yes, I've spent time there). But the service sucked. Very inattentive. The waiter and buspeople don't seem to notice very much. And I've been there when it was insanely busy and when it was dead slow. Same service each time. Still, I would recommend it and I keep going back.
Delicious food in an enjoyable outdoor setting
Our favorite restaurant in the north bay area! We return over and over.
Delicious delicious food. They just reopened indoor dining (covid era). So, the interior was still a work in progress (disheveled). We were in there at 5, and were the only
Customers. Nice and quiet and mellow. By the time we left, the place was Packed, inside and out. Once it’s full the noise level is loud. If they take suggestions, I’d hang carpets on the wall and ceiling to absorb Noise, get some flowers and artwork up to spiff up the atmosphere. Love the fireplace. And the jazz band outside on the sidewalk- thumbs up. Cannolis to die for. Will def be my go to Italian. The food was amazing.
Food was wonderful. Service good. Great experience
It was Berkeley Restaurant Week, and all the tables were busy, but the service was so very slow, to take our orders, and to ask if we wanted drinks. There were 4 of us celebrating a birthday, and 3 of the entrees came, and it was over 20 minutes before the 4th one appeared. The food was delicious, but the service flawed the experience.
Perfect meal until we requested port with our dessert. The “port”, served over ice, was a pale brownish liquid with dregs from the bottle. When my husband went in to pay the bill, he complained about the port. We still had to pay for 2 of the 4 undrinkable glasses. So go to this delightful restaurant and enjoy a fabulous meal. Don’t order port.
The best dinner I've enjoyed outdoors during the pandemic year!
The service is impeccable; the food is scrumptious, authentic Italian
and generous portions! Can't be beat!
Caesar salad and mixed green were very good. Stuffed zucchini blossom also very good. Mushroom ravioli and ragu di mai ale also very good. Deserts just ok. Service was fine but it was not crowded.
This was our first time dining here. Food was good but service was slow and our waiter was also handling phone orders and was too busy for us. When he had time to check on tables, he seemed to prioritize large tables ordering lots of drinks - he never once checked in with us or asked if we needed anything. Would recommend once they get their staffing issues sorted out.
The food was outstanding, as always. The service was good the first two times I went. But when they reopened inside dining, it turned bad. That happened twice in a row, once when the restaurant was extremely busy and once when it was hardly busy at all. There seems to be just one waiter covering inside and outside with support from two others, who deliver food and bus dishes. It's very hard to get attention. We wanted an extra soup spoon, and it took forever to get someone's attention and then forever again to get the spoon to the table. We sat a long time waiting for someone to come and take our payment, and we finally went inside to pay. Everything, just everything seems to take a long, long time. Still, the food can't be beat.
Our server was great and the food was very good too...
Great food, friendly service. Only reason it wasn’t a “5” star on service was that it was pretty slow to receive our food once ordered. No way is that a deal breaker- as I rated everything overall was excellent
Usually love the food here. I ordered the swordfish and was disappointed to see the skinny piece of fish. Canolis were amazing though.
The eggplant melanzana (appetizer) is one of my favorites from this place. Paired it with the linguini with clams and a nice glass of Sicilian white wine on my last visit, and it was DE-LICIOUS. Love this place. A local gem for sure!
The mushroom ravioli was delicious. The recommended Sangiovese red wine by the glass was also great.
A totally great experience. Lots of accommodation, good food, good wine, and over-the-top friendly service.
My pasta was half cooked and they brought our dinners out at different times. The staff was unprofessional and they didn’t know about the the wine.
