From the family that brought you Trattoria La Siciliana—a fixture of Berkeley’s Elmwood district for the past twenty years—Agrodolce is a sister restaurant located in the heart of Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. We are housed in a beautiful brick building that is equipped with a full bar and outdoor seating. Serving authentic Sicilian food, the type you’d only expect to find in the alleys of Palermo, Agrodolce features unique and truly authentic food.
This was my first visit after meaning for years to go. I love it. I’ll come again and again.
Probably the best place in Berkeley during the pandemic. They had heaters and I love that you can book a reservation. Lamb was amazing as was the ahi carpaccio was great. The garlic oil for bred dipping was our favorite!
Service was a bit lackluster and I can empathize. But is seemed like the staff didn’t really want to be there.
Anniversary dinner was awesome here. Great staff and wonderful food.
We sat outside in mid-November during Covid. It was a cool night, but the space heaters definitely helped. The bread and oil were great as always, and the fried eggplant with melted mozzarella and tomato basil sauce was an outstanding first course. All of our pasta dishes were great as well.
They need to cut back in the reservations. Great outdoor seating but management filled the outside and inside ( yes even w Covid ) and then the server
( and I am sure the kitchen) became overwhelmed. ONLY one restroom. Wouldn’t care if not for Covid days. Outside makes it tempting. Make sure you know what you are getting into ..... they need to make changes pronto .... food... number of diners ... not overwhelming kitchen and servers ....
The food was excellent from beginning to end. The hosts were friendly and aimed to please. I’m looking forward to making a return visit.
We've eaten at Agrodolce and it's ideal for a special dinner - great food, friendly and attentive staff. The outdoor parklet is as charming as the interior. AND they carry Etna wines on their list.
Best Dirty Martini EVER. Had all four of the daily antipasti. Zucchini blossoms (salivating), a fava bean puree on crusted bread (to die for), tuna carpaccio (YUMZ) ... one miss was the pan-fried smelt (a bit too salty but hope to order again and have a better experience). Ordered all 3 deserts... excellent. My husband and I can't wait to go back again. All waiters very cool and pleasant.
We ate in the outdoor area next to street (during pandemic). Food and service was great. The only issue was the traffic was very close to the outdoor area. We could have taken a table further away from the road though. Otherwise, great.
4th anniversary. Dinner was delicious. We enjoyed a frita misto and tomato salad, ragu and salmon, and some Pinot. Large portions! thoughtful service. Nice Pinot noir wine. Definitely enjoyed this special night
Great food and atmosphere! Staff super friendly even when understaffed.
Our first evening out at a restaurant since March, and Agrodolce did not disappoint. The fried squash blossom appetizers, braised lamb, and seafood "zuppe" were standouts, with the Berkeley High Jazz ensemble playing outside, rosemary topiaries providing green "screens" between tables, and an absolutely delightful evening, all around.
Diners far less than 6 feet apart.
Food good but not amazing.
This was our second COVID/outdoor dining visit to Agrodolce, and we were very happy with it. The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and helpful, though a touch slow at times. I look forward to whenever they are able to reopen indoor dining, since some of the outdoor tables are right along the sidewalk, and some tables are a little too close together. Staff that we saw were all appropriately masked, and sanitization practices seemed sufficient.
Rude service, horrible wait, greasy food. Took 90 minutes for our entries to arrive after we ordered. It’s clear from other reviews that they simply want to pack as many people and orders in as possible, even though they don’t have the staff to do it. Not surprisingly, customers suffer. Food itself was subpar - wilted lettuce salad, oily ravioli, greasy, messy Salumi plate. Wait staff was rude and dismissive. Finally, tables packed together - not Covid safe.
Horrible service. Food was poor.
Frittura Mista had more eggplant than fish
Zupa di pesce, for $35, was tasteless, sloppy and over-priced.
Bucatini 'Chi Finucchiede' was a lump of green stuff on top of pasta and was definitely not elegant.
The glass of Sangiovese was old and on the verge of turning. I would have sent it back because it was a $14 glass of wine, but the server was nowhere to be found.
The post meal cappuccino was cold when my wife got it.
There was a party of 18 sitting behind us -- during Covid! -- that was so loud I couldn't hear the person next to me at my table.
The food was delicious but the service really turned me off. It seemed like we had 5 waiters/waitresses and they would constantly come by and ask to clear our plates. We felt very rushed and it got really irritating as we were just trying to enjoy our meal. They even took my plate before my friend was done and also started to clear our table hurriedly before we had even paid the bill. We were sitting next to a very loud speaker which they moved upon request which we appreciated. Overall it was a sub par experience with fairly good food.
Inspite of Covid 19, this place hits all of the marks! And the owner comes around to each and every table to make sure you enjoyed yourself!
THE WORST SERVICE IVE EVER HAD AT ANY RESTAURANT
Working while dining was loud and took 1 and 1/2 for food to come out! Was delicious
The food was better than ever and it was always excellent before, plus the outdoor seating was well set-up, with good table separation, nice lighting, and even live music (although I don't know if they always have the music). Plus the servers, including the owner - Angelo - and several people who have switched over from the recently-closed Trattoria Siciliana - were efficient and warm.
My wife and I had a great time dining there with very good live music!
The service is awful, and the food is mediocre. They do not seem to be set up to serve as many people as they try to. It isn't a place I would return to given so many other options in Berkeley. To top it off, our bill was over-charged by exactly $99 dollars. They fixed it once I pointed it out of course. I'd like to think this was just an honest mistake.
Always enjoy our dinner experiences there. Outside reminds us of Italy. The service is never what it could be but the food and ambiance make up the difference
Bad experience. Don’t go. They don’t have enough personnel to handle all the tables. First I waited a long time to get water, then the appetizers. What made me really mad was that after the appetizers, I had to wait 1 hour and 1/2 for my risotto. When the risotto came it was impossible to eat!! It was sooo spicy that it was disgusting and after all that wait I had to send it back!! Ridiculous. I also asked the manager to turn on the heaters close to me but nothing.
Overall a disaster. Very sad because the ingredients are good and the menu is great. Obviously they need a real chef in the kitchen.
Our reservation was for 7:30 and we finally got seated at 8:00. Overall, we had a good experience there. We were a group of 8 people and that could explain the delay in seating us earlier.
The owner was there, service could’ve been better but it appears they were trying very hard to please all their customers and I will give them 5 stars fo that. It looks like they may have been short handed. Food was good and the hospitality was warm. Will definitely go again. The owner also comped us the corkage for the two wine bottles we took there for the delay.
From service to food...this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Berkeley.
This is the second time I have eaten here. We are from Los Angeles and whenever I come to the area I try to make a reservation. The service, food and ambience are wonderful. Can't wait to visit again!
Fantastic! Great family restaurant.
The outdoor setup is clean and socially spaced between tables.
The wait staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent!
Large selection of wines by the glass or bottle with reasonable prices.
Everything was fantastic!
Good job covid and spacing, expect slower service. Had a live band playing which was nice
It was great! Everything! It was fun to be outside too! We will be back!
the patio tables were a little too close together, but the food was as good as ever.
Nice outdoor dining, good place to have a conversation and people watch as masked pedestrians stroll by during Covid.
Delicious Panna cotta and Tiramisu, and very nice server!
Service was very slow and inattentive. I made a reservation, and when I first arrived, there was no host to greet me or guide me to a table. My date and I waited a while before we were greeted and asked for drink orders. We ended up waiting a whole hour before an appetizer or entrees came to our table. I had to get up from the table and go back inside to ask where our food was. We were given a free dessert which was the least they could do in my opinion. Unfortunately I would probably not come back to Agrodolce because the service was terrible.
Excellent food and pleasant outdoor seating.
It was good. Ate outside on the sidewalk. They might have been one server down as many folks were waiting for one thing or another. Food was still very good. I’d go back. *** My only suggestion is for them to level off their patio seating (former street parking) with the sidewalk level or place ramp. At night, several people fell down as they didn’t realize it was a step down from the patio to the sidewalk. It’s dark, no signage, no ramp. Lawsuit waiting to happen.
They are clearly working out the kinks, which is understandable. It was inconsistent in terms of the quality of the food and the service. However, We want to see our local businesses survive and even though it was not the greatest dining experience we still tipped generously because we want to help businesses and staff who are impacted by COVID-19. We’ve also ordered from them for delivery during Covid, and I thought the quality of the food was better then.
Authentic Italian food. Impossible to go wrong with any selection on the menu or any special.
Agrodolce does offer delivery in partnership with Postmates.
