Agnes and Sherman is a diner experience all about Asian American comfort food. Co-Owners Lisa Lee and Nick Wong are excited to bring a modern yet cozy new restaurant to the vibrant Houston Heights dining scene, honoring their unique third-culture Asian American roots, and everything that’s special about Houston. Inventive versions of familiar flavors are nestled alongside the golden rules of inclusion and belonging, as it’s now more important than ever to convey the values that have always been true: taking care of others is an act of love, and everyone is welcome here.

Named after Chef Nick’s parents, Agnes and Sherman is a spot for people who love food as much as they love Houston. The dishes are meant to be shared family-style, but can be easily enjoyed by small parties or solo diners. Menu highlights include savory scallion waffles with sambal honey butter, Taiwanese disco fries, and crawfish egg foo young.

Happy Pride Month! To celebrate the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer culture and community, Agnes and Sherman will be hosting our very own DRAG BRUNCH on Sunday, June 22nd from 11am - 3pm to kick off Houston’s Pride Week. You’ll be graced by the presence of Queen Persephone, Queen Artemis Hunter, and King Kian Kismet, performing to the beats of DJ Chopped Liver. Shhh — you will also get a first look what we’re working on for our brunch menu before we officially launch lunch/brunch service in the fall. A part of the proceeds will be donated to Tony’s Place, a local nonprofit that supports and empowers LGBTQ+ youth.

The food and drinks are amazing!! The food came out fast and the staff is super nice. Highly recommended to go on a date with family or friends.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit! Each dish was delightfully interesting and tasty. Savory waffle, tomato Sammy, and egg foo young.

This is a fun new addition to 19th St. Great flavors and cool cocktails. Very lively and exceptionally noisy. Fantastic service from Peaches!

Had an amazing meal with fantastic service. Glad we had a reservation as there were few open tables. This was our first visit but everyone is committed to returning to go back to favorites and try more items that we couldn’t get to.

First visit - great location with plenty of free parking nearby. Table was ready @ our reserved time. Nice relaxed ambiance and tables are spaced well, so you can walk between tables easily. Our server, Coretta was friendly and offered great suggestions. We ordered 3 starters to share - Rangoon, Fried Kimchi and the Savory Scallion Waffle. We loved each dish and the portions were generous, so we had leftovers. We decided to share an entree, so we ended up ordering the Rice Cakes. The description of the dish does not begin to communicate how spectacular the dish tastes - the depth of flavor in the long simmered meat ragu with spicy peppers, pickled red onions, seared rice cakes all combined to create a perfect dish that makes me want to eat the dish again. We were celebrating a birthday, so they brought a complimentary dish of chrysanthemum ice cream with a candle. The restaurant staff worked well together, clearing plates, serving, etc. The co-owner, Lisa Lee, stopped by for a brief chat. The wine and drinks from the bar were good too! Do not skip the Starters, because they are great! Hopefully, they can expand the sandwiches and entrees or periodically change them to keep the food interesting. For now, plenty to keep us interested in coming back. Not traditional Asian food, but if you are open for a little food adventure, this is the place.

Love to support local asian owned places.. and we have been wanting to try this place and glad we were able to make reservations. We went on a Saturday at 6pm and it was pretty busy. Parking was easy.. as they have a parking lot across the street that is free. Service was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the following for 4 people: Starters: Salt and Pepper Fries, 3/5, they were good, but nothing that stood out about it that would make me get it again Scallion Waffle, 4/5, the butter brought a nice sweetness to it, and I'm not sure what I was expecting in this dish.. but I don't think it was amazing to order again Shrimp Toast: 5/5, comes with 4 pieces.. and was actually very good. I loved the candied pecans.. such a nice touch! Wedge Salad: 5/5, a must get! I really enjoyed the chinese sausage and donut (as croutons).. it had the perfect amount of dressing.. and was very refreshing. Mains: Rice Cakes: 4/5, their take on bolognese.. using tteokbokki. It was actually good.. I particularly liked some parts of the tteokbokki that were crispy. The dish is VERY spicy.. kind of unnecessary spicy.. that lingered in your mouth.. but good! I would get again.. and thought the serving size was nice. Al Pastor Fried Rice: 5/5, the pictures make this dish seem small, but the bowl is a little deeper, and I think it would be enough to share with 4 people. It was definitely flavorful. Egg Foo Young, 4/5, crawfish, gumbo gravy & rice.. even though I'm not a fan of crawfish, I liked this dish. My husband really liked this dish! The egg was a nice touch with the grumbo gravy, giving some awesome flavors. We got the Pandan dessert, and not sure I'd recommend. Their ice cream does come from Milk & Sugar, so maybe try the other flavors! Bathrooms are gender neutral, clean and the vibe of the restaurant was bright and friendly. Give them a try!

Agnes and Sherman is pretty decent and has potential but still needs some work. The cocktails and food were ok but not super exciting, ingenuitive or flavorful. We tried two appetizers and two sharable dishes but all of them were just ok and lacked the flavors we were hoping for from this Asian and American Diner fusion dining experience. The one drawback of living in on of the most thriving and diverse food scenes in the world is that the options for diners and new experiences are seemingly endless making it hard to see a time where we would try A&S again in the near future (if at all).
