   We went for afternoon tea and despite a couple of lovely sandwiches (tuna, caper and watercress was delicious) it was all a bit of a let down. They only gave us one scone to share between two, the "trifle" was a ramekin of cream with a strawberry on, and the mystery caramel tarts on tap tasted vaguely like coronation chicken. All a bit odd. They were very liberal with their prosecco which meant that we still felt like we had a nice time but gastronomically a let down.

   Whilst the location is perfect and the décor is lovely/edgy, the service is simply appalling. We got there with 3 kids and 4 adults and we made feel totally unwelcome. There were only 2 tables including ours and they were extremely slow and simply not friendly. Definitely not going back there any time soon.

   I booked an afternoon tea here for my family as a treat while seeing the Harry Potter plays nearby. I thought I was booking for the Soho Hotel. This was a very disappointing second place, if that. The Soho Hotel restaurant was heaving, beautifully lit with a warm ambience - yes, we headed there first until I realised my error. By contrast, the Soho Sanctuary Hotel had one other table in a sparse, cold dining room. The food requests I had sent through with the booking had not been implemented. The selection of sandwiches was very ordinary while the cakes were overly sweet and stodgy - the macaroon was not at all light and chewy. The scones were stale and underwhelming. Overall, it was overpriced for what we received and I won't be returning.

   I booked the 'Gentleman's' afternoon tea as a 40th birthday gift for my husband. While the 'meaty' layer of the traditional afternoon stand was a real hit, the rest of the food was below average. The macarons were soggy and the scones were absolutely awful (rock hard) - at least the huge sandwiches on the 'High Heels' afternoon tea were tasty, although definitely not dainty! We were the only people in the restaurant for most of our visit and although friendly and welcoming, the two staff that served us were not very organised or attentive. We had to ask for a clean plate and spoons and they only brought us tea and coffee when we asked for it. I had e-mailed in advance to let the staff know we were visiting for a special birthday and they said they would get the chef to make up a special 'birthday plate' for my husband. The staff did wish him happy birthday when we arrived and they gave him a free glass of prosecco (which he doesn't drink), but there was no birthday plate prepared. The Gentleman's Jack and cigar was a really fun touch at the end of the afternoon tea, but we were told this could be smoked outside in the street, not in the roof garden as stated online. When we asked about the roof garden the staff didn't seem very interested as we had paid our bill and they seemed like they were keen to close up for the day. Overall, not up to the usual London standard in this price bracket.

   When we arrived there was a mix up with our booking as they have recently moved from one online booking company to Open Table. As a result, the chef was not aware of the afternoon tea booking. The staff were great, as was the chef, who made 2 afternoon teas from scratch, our first round of drinks were on the house and we were discounted 10% from our bill. Something that began as potential disaster was quickly rectified and topped off our 2nd anniversary perfectly.

   Took my husband there for Afternoon Tea for Fathers Day as the menu looked like he had made it up himself and he wasn't disappointed. The quality of the food was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. At one point my husband asked me if I had arranged the background music as it was like his music collection!
