I reserved at L'Auberge expecting a wonderful experience at an upscale hotel. The setting is beautiful, but unfortunately we were there on a rainy evening when it was quite cold. At first I was freezing and anticipating having to keep my coat on the whole dinner. Thankfully they had overhead heaters on and eventually rolled down all of the screens to the outside to keep it warmer inside. I thought all would be comfortable for the rest of dinner, but for some reason they turned off the heaters before we had even finished our meal and it became very cold again quickly. Because of this I had no desire to stay for dessert. While the food was pretty decent, it wasn't at the level that I would expect from the price we paid. In addition, the service was atrocious. Both our server and the runner kept coming over to our table to try and clear our plates before we had even finished eating. This was extremely annoying and we had to keep telling them that we weren't finished. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience we had versus the expectation. I would maybe come back for a drink on the patio on a nice day, but the food and service are not worth the price.

Service was very slow and not professional as it took a while for our wine to be opened after bring the glasses to the table. Then when opened for tasting he didn't poor the table and asked if we wanted him to poor the wine or we'd like to do it ourselves. Took a very long time for the appetizers and octopus was over charred. Food description was very strange as it stated a turnip salad with the steak and it was an odd cheese sauce with 1 piece of turnip and I think mushrooms but didn't pair with the steak. Meal took over 2 1/2 hours. Water dripped into the room so some areas very slippery especially if going to the restrooms. The old restaurant was much superior.

It’s a beautiful restaurant that falls short in overall food, beverage, price and service. It was not very busy and yet the service was slow. About the drinks, the mixologist for the cocktails, poured short pours for a high dollar price….easily $4 to $5 dollars more than equivalent restaurant just a few doors away. The quality of food was good. The portion was small but adequate. The presentation or pairings with other items was lacking, for example, 3-4oz filet mignon was paired with french fries on a unspectacular small plate, $64. The expectation was high due to cost and therefore, that’s where the disappointment was in the presentation. The halibut was not a pretty presentation, either. It was small and sloppy with the sauces and $48 price. Again, the expectation was high due to cost and very disappointed in the presentation. The food was good, just lacked in pairings to make the plate look beautifully presented. This makes your meals more appetizing enhancing especially when there’s a high dollar attached to it. The price of the meal isn’t really the issue, it’s the overall value that you get for what’s presented to you at the table. We will not accept the excuse that things cost a lot in California. As we just dined a couple days ago at Jake’s Del Mar, a beautiful beachside restaurant. The presentation, the food, and the value where top-notch. Highly recommend. In conclusion, we will visit this restaurant again because the atmosphere is beautiful but hopefully things will have changed when we come back.

We had to move because the music was too loud to hear each other. That said, the music was fun. Hard to get that noise level right. The entrees felt over priced but you are paying for the venue.

I always prefer dining off peak hours. The staff are not overwhelmed, and service is therefore more attentive and prompt, dishes and beverages are promptly turned out, and you can pick the best seat in the house. From the moment I arrived, I was treated like royalty. Such a stunning full ocean view! With the heat lamps and partial window shields, I was as happy as can be. Feeling too cold can ruin a dining experience. I ordered scallops, and a lemon drop cocktail. When I saw nearly everyone else ordering tortilla chips, guac, and salsa platter, I took that as a solid cue to add this to my order. I must say that was possibly the best I have ever enjoyed, even as a San Diego native. Everything I ordered was tasty, perfectly seasoned, served hot, beautifully plated. The lemon drop was so delicious, perfect, refreshing, served in a dainty, cute little glass. All staff (valet, hostess, server, waiter) I interacted with were very friendly, professional, and welcoming. When I made reservations I made a single special request: a few chocolate dipped strawberries for my table for dessert. An off-menu item that they absolutely delivered on after a single mention, no reminder needed! I was thoroughly impressed by this, as everywhere else in life, I find myself constantly repeating the simplest requests. I felt so welcome and well attended to, I definitely plan to return and spread the word about an outstanding dining experience. The only tiny additional thing I would suggest is menu expansion. Maybe just a few extra options. I wasn’t able to order traditional fare, such as calamari or charcuterie appetizers, but not having my usual go-to did force me to try a few new options, none of which were disappointing! Thank you for such an amazing experience and memory of a beautiful ocean sunset in a meticulous environment. I noticed they also took great care to space dining parties out, as some of us are still dealing with Covid PTSD. Very well done, Adelaide’s!

A disaster! And a surprise because our previous dinner there was very good. We are locals who have enjoyed this spot frequently over the last three decades. We arrived early with our party of seven and ordered drinks from the bar. We were seated on time. We ordered starters. There was a long delay, an apology from the server and yet more delay. The steak tartare was over salted, unpleasantly peppered, and inedible. The fried oysters were over cooked and lukewarm. It took an additional hour for entrees to arrive, but only after approaching the maitre d” to inquire whether he thought the delay was excessive. That prompted a visit from the server who told us “they’re working on it now, it will be up in about ten minutes” Entrees began to arrive fitfully, with the final order of scallops a full 15 minutes after the other entrees. The sirloin was undercooked. Immediately after serving the last of the entrees, the server appeared with the check, apologised, said the kitchen was struggling,” and advised that they had no-charged one order of scallops and deducted an additional 25%. She thanked us for coming and vanished. No inquiry about dessert or coffee. A tough night at one of our favourite Del Mar spots. We wish them better days and nights.

While the atmosphere and the view of this place are amazing, the food selection (for lunch) was fairly limited and the overall quality was okay, but nothing special. The service was poor, with our waiter being conspicuous by his absence. Making this poor service even harder to swallow is the automatic 5% 'service charge' that's added to the bill.

The food was superb. We ordered roasted peppers and their house salad to start and both were made with the freshest ingredients and were delightful and creative. The Alaska Halibut and filet mignon were excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive. The sunset as we were dining on the terrace was spectacular. Overall, a great experience except for the bill at the end, which was a bit of a shock. The casual outdoor setting notwithstanding, be prepared to pay black tie prices.

Beautiful hotel. Food okay. Cocktails poor. Terribly understaffed. Had to wait almost 25 minutes for water to be brought to our table and had to flag someone down for a refill 45 minutes later. Had a beautiful view table. Server had to ask for order twice - came back about 10 minutes after initially taking it. A plate didn't come with one of the meals that was on a lovely serving tiered presentation. Had to ask for one. Have been here before on a weekday and had a wonderful experience. I'd advise not going on weekends as the restaurant is not staffed for the large increase of people. Valet was great and extremely friendly. Restaurant greeter got us a good table for our anniversary lunch. Would recommend for lunch on Monday through Friday.

There was a wedding in same acoustic space as restaurant. I would not return under these conditions… noise was horrendous and ruined the lovely setting snd view fir me. Next time I book, I’ll ask first if there is another event during same time. Food was great except for beef tartare appetizer which was over seasoned and unrecognizable. Champagne was perfectly icy, pour was generous, scallops and chicken were fabulous! Gratis birthday dessert was tasty.

This is one of the nicest venue we’ve been to in the La Jolla area. We decided to make a dinner of small plates and skip the entrees that seemed disappointing as we saw waiters carrying them to other tables. This was the bast idea: DELICIOUS. Roasted Carrots: fantastic, go grab the tahini dressing under them Lentil cakes: spot on The burrata with peach: good over all but it was a small size burrata. It said it was coming with sourdough but came with Pita bread Grilled Italian pepper: sweet and flavorful The downside was service, our waiter was nice but not super helpful nor fast

I am a Del Mar resident and I had a much better experience in the past. The egg Benedict were served with a bread not toasted and with very little sauce, the tuna in the ahi salad was not really fresh, cocktails could be better prepared. The noise was incredible making the conversation very difficult. The beauty of the place did not change and the service (very slow) was kind.

They are still short on staff. The drinks were slow in coming from the bar. The food took more time than it should have. The waiter was very attentive but hard to find when needed. The noise level was higher than usual due to a large party of young women holding some type of party. Had they not been there, the ambiance would have been very relaxing and the live musician could have been easier to hear.
