Absinthe never fails to provide outstanding food. The chef's skill and his devotion to his craft are apparent in each plate. Whether it is the steak frit or the salad nicoise, the food is always superb. Absinthe is far from a new restaurant. It has aged like a fine wine. Kudos to the Chef, the kitchen staff and the servers who set an example of what fine dining should be.

On a Tuesday evening it took us 45 minutes before our order was taken. The lone server was doing bar as well as tables. The food was a big disappointment. Two of us had the beef stroganoff and it was tasteless and watery. The beef was chewy and difficult to cut. The steak frites and gnocchi were average at best. The best part were the desserts and the cheese fondue.

Very nice ambiance, was there for our wedding anniversary, there was another couple there Celebrating their 65th anniversary! Cheese fondue, Beef Wellington, fantastic, Two Sisters Cabernet Sauvignon wine, Not cheap but based on the city and caliber of food very good. I am at the age that I find everything expensive… LoL. But a great experience and we will go back.

Delicious lunch. The steak was cooked to perfection. Our server was very congenial. Knowledgeable. I definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone.

I worked in the kitchen here, I’d be very angry. Good food, atrocious service. We ordered the prix fix from our server, let’s just refer to him by his initial “R.” We ordered cocktails and my fiancé asked to include the wine pairing with her meal. After our cocktails arrived, R asked if we wanted the wine pairing to accompany each course. We asked him to repeat the question because it was just so unusual. Of course we want the wine pairing with each course! We leisurely enjoyed our fondue and when finished, R plunked a glass of white wine on the table and sped off. After a few moments R came back, and we had to ask what the wine was. R said it was a sauvignon blanc from Niagara that “tastes good with cheese.” Later we were again asked if we wanted the wine to accompany the next. R brought a red wine and again plunked it on the table and ran off. Our beef wellington arrived, and we had to ask what the wine was that was delivered. R didn’t know and went away to read a menu. He returned and said “an Italian wine from . Good with Beef.” The Wellington was tasty but, by now, we were getting frustrated with the ambivalent service. I half expected Gordon Ramsay or Robert Irvine to pop out from the kitchen to shut things down. R asked our choice of desserts and asked if we wanted coffee or tea. We restated our pairing (turns out it’s a $90 pairing) which a pairing with dessert. After 10 min a new smaller glass was plopped on the table and R quickly disappeared. Finally after 15 additional minutes the chocolate mousse and crème brulé came to the table. We had had enough after a slow 2 hours for the meal so far. We asked for our bill, left our uneaten desserts and left. There are plenty of options in Ottawa, where for less than the $350, a couple can get a lovely meal along with great service. You don’t even need to travel more than a kilometer from Absinthe to find those wonderful spots. We’ll visit those other restaurants the next time we are in the neighbourhood.

Followed the Instagram page for probably close to a year at this point and then had a special occasion to finally give it a try and it was fantastic!

We had the fondue and thoroughly enjoyed it. Delicious all. Just about the best place to go with friends for good catch up. Never disappoints.

We had a wonderful experience at Absinthe at dinner this evening. The play list was fun, the food was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive.

When we can squeeze in a girls night this our first choice of where to go. All of us love the food and the servers and our own great conversations. The seats are comfortable and the ambiance relaxing. Delicious Steak et Frittes and save room for the mousse. We now have to go back and try fondue night before they close it down for the summer. Just Top choice for us!
