The beef wellington was just awesome! I loved the somewhat open kitchen. We were seated near the back of the room and it was fun to watch the 2 chefs cook away. They seemed to love their job. Steaks cooked to perfection without a piece of fat on the filet anywhere. Flourless chocolate cake was scrumptious!
the food was cold and the waitress didn't seem concerned about it when we let her know.
The food was mediocre and portions were very small for the price. The server acted more like what you would find in a diner than a place with these prices. When there's so many other restaurants in the city doing this type of menu very well I would not go here.
I was there one year ago and it was great, the Wellington beef was perfect and only cost 19 dollars. But this time the price is 26 dollars ! Insane. We went there for "brunch" fancy way to say lunch. My friend ordered the prime rib sandwich and asked it medium rare, the kitchen said no sorry we only have it well done ?!?!?! So that means this is the only steakhouse (so called) in town where you can have only one way to cook meat. Interesting concept. So my friend said no sorry i prefer the burger instead, and medium rare. The beef patty was just made with poor pieces of meat and grease and of course overcooked...not a fan ! I had the cubano style sandwich and it was just ok but very salty like the fries. Clearly the people who work there don't know what they are doing. And the chef must have take a very long vacation break...

Good place to go for Happy Hour. Some good menu items and drink specials. The sliders on the App menu looked great. The Steak Sandwich was good, but not great...limited beers, but this is a bar/restaurant in a boutique hotel. The staff was nice and a good place to stop in before a play.
The two waitresses were pleasant but overworked. The restaurant was too noisy to hold a conversation, and we had to wait an extraordinarily long time for food and drinks. While delicious, we would have preferred to at least hear each other. One of our party could not participate at all. Dishes were nicely sized - not too large - and delicious. Just slow and very, very noisy. A third waitress would have helped - as would some kind of noise absorption on the walls and/or ceiling.
Fantastic! The steak sandwich is spectacular. Service great and the location is perfect.

The staff was fabulous. They were very pleasant and the timing of things were perfect. The restaurant is noisy. It’s trendy so it’s not out of line. Plus the big doors were open to all the hustle and bustle of Michigan Avenue. The food taste was very good. The Brussel sprouts were super size fabulous and one member of our party got the shrimp cocktail and it was excellent. So pick your favorite things and you will walk away happy.

First time. Restaurant is rather small, mix of lounge, small bar plus maybe 10 tables, noisy, from open doors to michigan Ave traffic, music and customer chatter. No happy hour menu on weekends. Dinner menu seemed overpriced for a newer, smallish, no-name restaurant. Wasnt going to order the $47 ribeye or $12 onion soup my first time. Only one waitress serving the entire restaurant, which included outside patio which lead to slow and spotty service. Ordered a beer with limes (no New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the menu) and hubby diet coke with lime, the cheeseburger (recommended by waitress over the steak sandwich) and a 10 oz hangar steak. Beer arrived with one tiny lime sliver and diet coke with none. I had finished my beer before food arrived. The waitress brought another round. Both the burger and $30 steak were served with fries (a modest serving). The burger was medium (not med rare) and was rather dry compared to my favorite burgers. Alas, the waitress didn't resurface until we were done (and plates cleared)—I told her the burger was fair and overcooked—I wouldn’t order it again. She did comp one beer, which was appreciated.... with so many really good restaurants within a few blocks of ALK, i am not likely to revisit, unless it is for breakfast/lunch with the coupon I received in the mail.... Not a bad place, just not good enough overall.
I very much enjoy the food and the physical setting of the restaurant, but the music is FAR too loud. I was there at 5:15 pm on a Saturday - there's no reason for blaring music at that hour of the day. I prefer to be able to converse with my dining companion(s).
I used to love the cocktails and the new cocktail list is more simplistic and boring.
Prices are high - perhaps necessary for Michigan Avenue, but still feels a little too high.
Overall - great food, good drinks (though not as fun or spectacular as they used to be), great setting, but loud music and somewhat overpriced. I'll still go for special occasions, but hope that the music is quieter.
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Julian and after working and the train ride in to the city we decided to eat at the hotel. The food was excellent, the service amiable. But the chairs have to be the most uncomfortable I’ve ever endured. Take my advice and sit at the bar!
Had a celebratory dinner with our daughter at About Last Knife. Service could be a little more attentive. Some of the portion sizes could be a little larger, my wife's fish entree left her wanting even though she ordered a side of brussel sprouts, which were good. My hanger steak portion was fine. Our daughter ordered the Wellington, which was a nice size, and she said it was great. Some good, some potential improvements. We live around the corner, so we will give it another go at some point.
Good food, but venue is small and service is just okay. Convenient location balances out the review and I'll give it a B.
About Last Knife is that great little “in between” bistro that the world needs more of. A menu that can be casual or special depending on the occasion; an ambiance that can be a dressed up date before the theater, or jeans and a pullover while walking down Michigan Ave. The Wellington is spot on and a great value; the wine list is compact but appropriate; and the specialty cocktails are among the best in the city. A comfortable and well executed destination that’s becoming one of my favorites.
Portions are too small for the price. Menu is limited.
The beef Wellington slice was delicious. The only thing I would change is for the extra sides to come out before we were halfway finished the steak. Our server was very friendly and professional.
Incredible setting in ambience the chef is a true master. It's a small setting in the big city with extremely good value on the food that you receive. The stakes are always cooked to perfection the sides are to die for. Highly recommended the ribeye or the beef Wellington along with their bearnaise sauce and the brussel sprouts.
Our waiter Jacques was delightful. Food prepared to our liking and fun atmosphere.
Since we were there for brunch it was not crowded, but it's a small space, so I imagine it could be loud and crowded if it were packed. We had drinks, mushroom soup and Beef Wellington Benedict. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious! Service was great too.

The food was really fantastic, but the service was poor. Perhaps they were understaffed, but it felt like we spent the majority of our time waiting for someone to take our order, or bring us a drink, or bring the food, or bring the check. It was never the same server—so no one seemed to really take responsibility for our table. If the service matched the food it would have been a real gem!
Food was good but too pricey and small portions.

Fries were overly battered and tasteless. Steak sandwich was dry and barely had 3 oz of meat.
Salad was served strangely - chicken was still on the bone and bland.

My ribeye wasn’t a very good piece of meat, hard to cut, a lot of fat, poorly seasoned, I couldn’t eat it
