Abacus Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated our anniversary at Abacus. We had dined there many times thru the years but had missed returning.
We are so sorry that we missed a couple of years because our dinner tonight was superb as in the past. Everything from the bartender Jason to our waiter Nick could not have been better. Our food was perfect from the lobster shooters to the scallops appetizer. We loved our Cornish hens and venison entrees. Dessert was perfect with champagne.
5 Stars across the board. We won’t wait to revisit.
I have been to Abacus many times throughout the years with sensational experiences and when my last minute birthday dinner could not be had at Pappas, Double Eagle, or Nick & Sam's last Saturday I was thrilled to see that they had a reservation left. We made a plan for 4 and they were courteous to increase it to 5 last minute while still providing us a great table. Our service was great from our waiter as he was attentive, courteous, and kept our Champagne filled (and then later our Cabernets via the magnum he found room for on our table). The opening food was excellent as we had the lobster shooters, bacon flight, and the Picasso roll to start - all of which are some of their staples. Also of note, they ran out of bread that night which was insult to injury as they also had lost their pastry chef and didn't have their typical assorted bread basket that I raved to everyone about prior to dinner. However, the steaks were a colossal let down. For the first time in my life I sent back a steak (I eat a lot of them - had 11 out at restaurants in November alone); the aged strip I ordered was over cooked at medium and was also room temperature. The waiter was aghast, he took it back and replaced it quickly while comping some truffle fries to keep me eating but even the repeat steak was now rare instead of medium rate (albeit warm). I was further flabbergasted to hear that it wasn't just my steak; the entirety of the table had a room temperature steak that was cold within 1-2 bites that night. All of the steaks were presented with flare but I'm guessing the kitchen was behind as there was approximately a 70 minute wait between apps and dinner. The waiter and ancillary staff did a great job of conducting an audible throughout the night but I am not sure I can any longer think of Abacus as fine dining in Dallas any longer messing up one steak is ok but a table of 5 all having poorly prepared dishes is an embarrassment.
Service is impeccable. Food is high end and plentiful. Ambience is perfect for a romantic night for two or having fun with a few friends. We have been a few times for date night but also together with friends. Great place if your looking for a fun & fancy (but not uptight) night out.
I rarely write reviews, even though I should more often. However, I was so underwhelmed by my final Abacus experience that I am compelled to say something.
The lobster shooters were amazing as always. Bread is great as well. Beyond that the entire meal was simply disappointing. Wanting to eat light before a local concert, we opted to choose from the sushi and small plate section of the menu.
I ordered the Picasso roll. I eat sushi at least twice weekly and have never had it served with diced onions. The roll was absolutely covered in them. I tried to brush them off, however at that point the roll was saturated with the flavor of onions. What a shameful waste of fresh fish.
My date chose the Cheese Tray . It came with 3 tiny pieces of cheese and a small dollop of soft cheese along with 4 crackers that looked and tasted to be made of some peculiar mix with the consistency of a composite material. Then sprinkled on the plate were a few apricot bites and nuts that literally looked and tasted like trail mix from Costco. Not only was the quality very poor, the $28 price was out of line. For comparison, I’d refer to cheese tray at Rise as an excellent value and tasty choice.
Although the staff were welcoming and are always gracious, I would save your hard earned money. Instead spend it at one of the many other amazing culinary treasures we have here in Dallas.
I loved Abacus. We went for my husband's birthday and had a lovely time. The wait staff is friendly and very professional. They kept the water and wine glasses full all evening. The food is amazing. I had the lobster shooters - excellent. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. Main course was prepared perfectly and the dessert was wonderful. Bar service was quick and they know how to make a perfect martini.
We went for Valentine's Day and they had a pre-purposed menu 4-course dining experience. It was perfect! Timing of the courses was spot on and the food and drinks were spot on. Great place for special occasions. Ambiance and decor was very relaxing and romantic. Pricey but worth it!
Outstanding menu with almost every choice being highly desirable.
The execution was extremely good. Great balance of flavors, beautifully presented, and great service.
We knew we were presenting the kitchen with a challenge given the dietary restrictions, yet the server made the whole experience his problem, and it all was super easy.
They even produced a dessert that was not on the menu without us asking, simply to accommodate the dietary restrictions. It is very rare that it is ever this easy.
Just fantastic food and impeccable service. There are plenty of Dallas restaurants with great food, but the entire staff was so impressive. Valet, front desk, coat check, and especially our waiter. This is as close to perfect restaurant service I have experienced since Gary Danko's in the SFO Bay Area.
I have visited Abacus numerous times and have always been very happy that I did. The service is always most attentive but not intrusive and the food is exceptional. The Lobster shooters are a must to begin with and I have tried many other entrees and all were beautifully presented and awesome to taste. I had the buffalo this last visit and it was unbelievably tender and delicious.
I have been here many times over the years and this time the food was back to being 5 star and was top knotch. The service on the other hand was just okay. When we are waiting for 15-20 minutes to get the first drinks that is way to long. The waiter would just disappear on us when we wanted more drinks. I love the food so I will be back but service needs to improve.
Just a note we had 5 business dinners this week and service was bad at 4 out of 5. I know know what was up with Dallas this trip.
Lobster shooters always on point! We had scallops & buffalo filet - cooked to perfection & all flavors on point & well balanced. We usually visit here for special occasions but decided this year to make it a regular monthly standby ..... January check! Here comes February:)
In town for business and this was recommended. Staff was extremely attentive to every detail. We tried the 5 course tasting menu so that the chef could surprise us and he did not disappoint. Extensive wine list and creative cocktails - something for everyone. The entire experience was a total delight.
Excellent experience as usual. The dishes are a work of art an taste just as good as they look. I had the duck breast and it was magnificent. My wife had the Cornish game hen and it had an amazing flavor. One of our favorite places to visit when we are in Dallas.
