We went to celebrate Veterans Day and were given entrees for free. The only complaints were:
1. When ordering the salmon I asked if there was any meat in it and was told no. It arrived with bacon garnish and sent back in exchange for the excellent swordfish special.
2. We had to wait 15 minutes for our check.
Each time I go to Abacus, it is a wonderful experience.
Had a great eating experience for our anniversary. Service was excellent as was the food. Swordfish was exquisite. Manager was friendly and made us feel special. Highly recommend!
We were seated by the kitchen/service area. We sat for 5-10 minutes totally ignored. No menu, no water, no drink and no waiter. Not sure why a waiter would have tables all over the place instead of 4 or 5 all together for the best service and attention.
Not a big fan of open kitchens, like watching sausage being made and it adds to the din in the room and also clusters all the waiters.
The food was very good, but not impressed with the sushi, pretty pedestrian.
Not the Abacus we have known or loved. Food & service just mediocre. $64.00 for bison tenderloin??? Really!!??? Sadly, our last visit.
Outstanding service from the moment you arrive. Attention to details. Unique menu. Quality of the food and ingredients is superb. You can have some great sushi if you like some different, or pick from a list of to start follow but a great stake and side dishes.
Abacus is my favorite restaurant in town. The food for 19 years has awawwswswwwawssswwswswwsaaawsaaaawsaaaaaawswwswsaaaaawsawwwwawawwwwawawWwwwwwwWwwwwawawsw been wonderful and consistent. This past Wednesday was no exception! All five courses were absolutely delicious. Justin paced the evening perfectly. His wine recommendations where spot on. I could eat cardboard with the sakisause that comes with the lobster shooters. Amazing!!!!
Fantastic as always. Still one of the best in Dallas after 19 years.
Service was good as usual. Ambience was pleasant as usual. Now for the food.
For appetizers the rock shrimp was very good. Lots of shrimp with a great citrus salad to balance out the sweetness of the shrimp and to cut the fattiness of the batter. I only wish it was served with more salad for that huge amount of shrimp to keep all those flavors going. The foie gras could almost be could be considered a savory dessert. For me to be an appetizer, the salt needed to come through more than the sweet. And that was not accomplished. So for me, while the flavors we good, it did not completely work as an appetizer.
For the mains, the land animals were cooked to perfection. The composition of the tenderloin dish was the best of the night. It was an explosion of flavors, textures and the perfect amount of smoke. The venison was also very good. For the seafood dishes, however, both the scallops and the salmon were under seasoned. For me, food that is under seasoned is unforgivable. While those dishes were composed well, it just left me feeling flat. Additionally, the salmon was over cooked without a perfect sear. Medium rare is perfect, over cooked fish is just sad.
Dessert was very good. Balanced sweetness, great texture and just enough. A solid dish.
Mid tier wine pairings were good. In my opinion a great addition and worth the money.
Bottom line: Excellent thoughtfulness and composition of all the dishes. But on my night, execution was lacking on the seafood dishes. While sadly Abacus is no longer my number one restaurant in Dallas, it still is in my top 3.
Wasn’t up to their regular standards. Had a Wagu NY strip that cut and tasted like choice angus
Cool, but the waiter rushed us through out the dinner. Small thing to fix, people like to converse awhile in such a nice establishment. Food was fire meaning great.
I am not from Dallas and was there on business. I met a lovely lady and we went to Abacus for dinner. I thought the service, the food and the wine list were all top notch. The 6 ounce bison steak at 67$ was pricey but well worth it. Their wine list was good but peculiar. For example there were no traditional Malbec vintages from Argentina, and wine that sells for $8 a bottle in BA or Mendoza was on the list for $100. But on the whole very good. Surprisingly, the Abacus GM claimed Dashe Zinfandel was on allocation. I spoke to Anne Dashe. Not true. They need to put some Dashe zin on their wine list.
Great atmosphere , loved the service, food, and environment
Food was great, except for the risotto. They removed from our bill.
Great warm inviting environment. Menu had a plethora of options and flavors. My girlfriend and I were left full but did not feel overly bloated and “weighed” down as the food was tasty and clean. Service was spot on and we had a fantastic romantic dinner. I would definitely come back!
Great service and atmosphere. Food was a bit over salted
Food was good. Duck was under cooked. Server was average and not attentive. Our 3rd visit here and the worst of three. We will not be back. Even there’s lobster shooters are not what they used to be and restaurant signature dish.
My wife was served one of the off menu scallops with red beet sauce. The presentation of the dish was not inviting. The dish was “splashed” with a red beet sauce that looked someone had bled on and splattered blood on the bowl. She ate a small portion then could not finish the dish.
Since the last time we ate their the menu has changed. We were told the chef/partner had left. This menu is a little eclectic for us. Loved the old menu and product.
Wine list is very good
Still one of the best restaurants in Dallas. Amazing food and service.
Excellent anniversary spot.
I love this restaurant and we did a tasting. I was however disappointed in the Salmon which was clearly not fresh, and there Signature Lobster shooters were off that night. All in all this restaurant is normally great, we might have just had the B team that night.
Third time dining here and it keeps getting better. The food was exceptional, and the wait staff that served us were absolutely outstanding. Great ambiance, outstanding service and exceptional food - would recommend to anyone for any occasion.
The restaurant, hostess, manager were all excellent. However our waiter was not. Seemed anxious and distracted, took our order and came back to ask if we were ready to order when we'd already ordered. Dinner was quite expensive and the saving graces were the busboy, manager and ultimately waiter that ended up finishing our dinner service.
Atmosphere, service and food were outstanding. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Was amazing as always. We love going for celebrations or date nites. As my wife puts it, Abacus can do no wrong!
We were very impressed with our service and the food was outstanding. Especially the Lobster Shooters. Fabulous item!
The food is always exceptional when I eat at Abacus. I'm never disappointed by the quality of my meal. This time around, we ordered from the sushi menu and separate entrees, so we could try a little bit of everything. To note, the quality of the Toro was great, and the rest of the meal, including my Wagyu Beef, was amazing. I always find myself craving the Creamy Black Truffle Risotto, so I will definitely be coming back!
Lobster Shooters at Abacus are a “must do”in Dallas!
Went for restaurant week as we have for years... this year was less than spectacular. Service was average. Food was average.
Hadn't been in a year & decided to give it another try as it used to be consistently excellent.
The food was outstanding and back to expectations.
It's past time for an inside & outside refresh.
For some reason it was boiling hot the second half of our visit. So much so that I had to go out of the dining area, because of this, I excepted to see the manager at some point. Since that didn't occur, my rating reflects that as mechanical things can happen to anyone but how you handle them, sets places apart.
My girl group comes every year to Abacus for Restaurant Week for the past 15 or so years (excluding the year of the renovation). Everything is alway great—food, staff, ambience, etc.
My friend and I were celebrating our birthday. We had a great time. The service and food were great.
Been to Abacus many times and always enjoy it. The service is spot-on. The food is always delightful, especially the lobster shooters. Will continue to go there.
Creative flavor combinations; excellent, attentive service, attention to detail.
Overall a wonderful, leisurely dinner. We had our table for over an hour and a half, which is unheard of here in The US. Great dessert and wine selections.
Definitely a "go- to" for a memorable meal. The in-house manager has been with the restaurant over a decade and always seems to please.
We enjoyed the RW menu. We had come back in March to do the Chef’s Table menu sampling and enjoyed it then as well. Consistently great food and service!
We have been to Abacus several times and each time it is fantastic! We originally decided to go because it was restaurant week and I got an email about making a reservation. It was awesome!! as usual
Always a great choice. Was there for restaurants week and it’s a great value
Restaurant Week done very well! Food and wine pairings were excellent. Service was great. We will be going back
Food was good up to the entree. Wife had the salmon which was good but not great. I had the sirloin which was tough and stringy, over half of it was left on my plate when could stand eating anymore which is not typical me. Would not recommend this place for steak.
