A wonderful anniversary dinner with Old Hollywood charm We’re locals and had never been to A Restaurant, so we decided to try it for our anniversary - and we’re so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was incredible. We loved the old-school, red leather booths and dark, moody vibe that felt straight out of Old Hollywood. The cocktails were spot on — I had a dirty vodka martini that was made perfectly. After dinner, we moved to the bar to soak in the lively, intimate atmosphere there. Highly recommend doing the same. We started with the crab cakes, and they may have been the best I’ve ever had - full of flavor and not overly breaded. For our entrées, I had the scallops (note: you only get three, but they were perfectly cooked and delicious), and my husband had the Hangar Steak, which was excellent. We shared the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, both great sides. Pro tip: ask for bread for the table - it’s worth it! Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. A lovely surprise was the complimentary glasses of champagne for our anniversary. Which was a nice and thoughtful touch. If you’re looking for a quiet night out, just note that this isn’t that kind of spot. The dining area is small and gets lively quickly. It did get a bit noisy as the booths filled in, but we enjoyed the energetic vibe. We went on a Monday night and were surprised at how packed it was, clearly a favorite among Newport Beach locals. We’ll definitely be back - whether for a full dinner or just to hang out in the cozy bar with appetizers and cocktails. A fun, memorable night out!

Went to A to have the Friday night only chicken pot pie. It didn't disappoint! Nice chunks of vegetables and chicken in a thin sauce, topped by a very flakey and fresh puffed pastry top. Really enjoy the "make you own" cheese and meat board as the appetizer and finished the meal with a very tasty 20 year tawny port. Staci, our server, was outstanding and appreciate the GM, Kirk, stopping by several times to make sure everything was good. Love the restaurant and will definitely be back soon.

We had a table in the main dining room but the young lady who was seating another group without a reservation insisted they wanted the main dining so we were pushed into the bar area. I felt that was not nice to do. The staff is friendly and food was good but I would not say memorable or desired to go back next time I’m in Newport .

Another great experience at A! Friendly greeters showed us to our table immediately, even though we had arrived WAY early. Drinks were ordered and everything proceeded perfectly! The food was superb, service was attentive. We even lingered for dessert! An enjoyable time was had by all...
