The ambience is lovely and festive in the front but also in the back area (heated and beautifully lit). Our server was super professional and pleasant. The food is fantastic and beautifully plated with substantial portions. They kindly waive the $20 corkage fee if you buy one bottle from their menu and bring one bottle from home.

Customer service was adequate but not outstanding. Food was very good. Patrons should be aware that this restaurant specializes in unique cuisine and that the wine list is heavily slanted toward European wines with attention to Eastern European wines.

A very disappointing experience. First, service was very slow; my wife had to wait 50 minutes from the time we were seated to get her first food (her glass of wine came promptly). When her mussels finally came, she ate a few of them and found them all sandy. She rejected the dish, and then dined on the French fries she'd also ordered, and on tiny bits of my soup and fish. My sole dish was spoiled for me by the sharp sauce it was covered with -- sole is a delicate fish, and the pesto was too much for it; the sole was completely blanketed by the over-aggressive sauce. We may not return to A Cote.

We consider A Cote among the very best restaurants in Oakland. The food is always outstanding. We went with friends and shared appetizers and entrees. We even got dessert, which we usually don't do, and this was also terrific. This is the restaurant for those special occasions or when you just want excellent food.

Unfortunately the service was a bit below par: not very helpful with the menu, felt we had inconvenienced server when we weren’t ready to order, and had to ask for check. Food was good as we’ve had before but the service left a bit of a bad taste.

This was the second time i've visited this restaurant and unfortunately, the service was terrible. Plates were delivered to the table without share plates and the proper silverware (we had to share a spoon for our soup, and eat off the same plate for our salad). Then our entrees were delivered at the wrong time and not coordinated, so that half of us were eating while the other half waited quite along time. The server was rude about the whole thing and at one point even said "i'm done". When the manager came over, i didn't find her to be appropriately sympathetic. The server who took over for the rude man was wonderful, but by that point, our experience was ruined. For a meal that costs nearly $400, i'd expect a much higher level of service. We definitely won't go there again.
