À Côté is a small-plates restaurant in Oakland's charming Rockridge district. Cozy tables surround large communal tables in both the main dining room and on the sunny patio to create a festive atmosphere. Small plates reflecting the best of seasonal Mediterranean cuisine are served family-style by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Menu items are paired with a carefully chosen selection of over 40 wines by the glass as well as a highly diverse bottled wine menu. Specialty drinks featuring fresh fruits, rare botaniques and fine liqueurs are featured at the bar.

I enjoyed the meal... but I'm afraid that too many of the dishes just slightly missed the mark. For example, the fries-with-aioli had all the ingredients to be great, but the fries were not crispy, so the overall experience came in as a "B+" instead of an "A". Likewise the Croque Monsieur: the ham was good, but the cheese lacked character (as in, "didn't taste like gruyere") and the bread was forgettable... so the thing was more like an American grilled cheese-and-ham sandwich than the French dish that the name suggests. Not that that's bad, but it's not great, either.

So certainly worth another try, but slightly disappointing because it could have been great!

A Cote has consistently delivered excellent menus --food, cocktails, wine, dessert. It's been around forever relative to the high turnover and openings of Oakland restaurants over the past 3-5 years, but remains a strong contender both for ambiance and taste. I choose it whenever someone from out of town comes--good for health nuts and meat eaters alike. Beautiful.

I really enjoyed the restaurant for a birthday celebration it was very festive the offerings were very mixed and all the licious prices were a little higher than I anticipated. The dessert was fabulous

Food was excellent, wine list is all old world and includes many Georgian selections- we really enjoyed this. Service was really nice but so so on a few things- delivery of meals from kitchen was as ready rather than for the table of 6 of us (odd- would be more understandable for a larger table) and pacing of taking order was very very slow. On the other hand, server was very knowledgeable about wine and generous with tastes to allow us to make a selection.
Overall I think this restaurant is a great find and worth the quirky service for the great food, wine and ambiance.

Lovely back room which was much more quiet and intimate than the front side of the house. Service was a bit slow and somewhat rushed - but still polite and attentive.

Our server Paul was the best we have had for a while. So considerate. When we ordered Georgian wines he came with wine bowls from Georgia for us to drink out of. What a kind gesture. The food was amazing and the service even better, all for very reasonable prices. So happy that we came here tonight.

I love this place the food is exquisite, well prepared and presented , it's very dark and romantic and you have a real sense of privacy, European feel. Feels casual and expensive at the same time. I love tapas style restaurants , sharing food is an intimate thing to do

We came to celebrate our Anniversary, and A Cote didn't disappoint! The food was just perfect, the waitstaff was helpful, knowledgeable about their food and drink menus, and super attentive! Great time, very cozy and warm atmosphere- the cocktails are amazing.

An enjoyable Sunday night dinner. Chicory salad was light and lovely. Pork Osso Buco with Polenta Verde was very tasty, as was the skirt steak. Chocolate pear dessert was a dude- very heavy pastry, and almost non-existent pear. Two excellent wines by the glass recommended by the waiter.

Lovely place. Service is very attentive but not at all stuffy. The food is a great synergy of classic things such as steak and pommes frites together with innovation and creativity. I love everything I eat here and the wine list is just fantastic.

Perfect for a get-together with an out-of-town friend! When friends visit, I always want to show off the best of the Oakland dining scene. I had not been to A Cote for years, but it used to be one of my favorites. And I was looking for somewhere closer to home rather than the trendy Uptown area. A Cote fit the bill. The atmosphere was ideal for conversation; we felt very comfortable and inclined to linger at our table. The service was attentive and the food delivery well-spaced, which doesn't always happen at small-plates type restaurants. Some of the food was quite creative - my friend loved the sweet and spicy chutney that topped the butternut squash soup - and it was all very well-prepared. I had a lovely glass of an unusual wine from the Greek Islands, and my friend had an excellent cocktail. I will bring more people here soon!
