Food was outstanding as always. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we were so excited to go back there after everything. Love the variety of the menu and the creative cocktail list.
We had an extremely enjoyable evening on their back patio. The food and service was outstanding.
Had reservations for two and were promptly seated inside. Reasonably quiet. Service was responsive throughout. Appetizers arrived quickly. Soup was beautifully presented and delicious. Pommes Frites were well seasoned and very generous (too much for two, perhaps just right for four). Flatbread (pizza) was tasty. Asked for red pepper flakes which were provided. Ordered ribeye medium rare but it arrived medium. And needed seasoning! Requested salt and, after a slight wait, a little salt and pepper was provided. Several Yelp reviews described "under seasoning" so this may be the chef's preference. But we were not alone in wanting to spice it up a bit. We shared a strawberry shortcake that was attractive and good, but not memorable. Perhaps as good as that dessert gets. Coffee was excellent.
A good experience at A Cote during this curious pandeemic re-opening period. Our party of 4 sat in the open back deck section, and felt comfortable with air movement and table spacing. Service was prompt and efficient - a plus when so many restaurants are struggling to find staff. Salads were good, gazpacho was excellent, and the squash spaghetti was fresh and tasty. Wine was interesting (something from Bosnia) - we didn't love it, but it's good to try something different. Overall - happy to be back at one of our favorite restaurants.
Lovely cocktails, excellent food with an interesting and seasonally updated menu
Love this place
There is no children’s menu or any real options for kids. This is a failure to be inclusive that would be so easy to fix.
We went Friday evening. We booked through the Open Table app ( super easy), and we ordered the white gazpacho (tasty!) mussels and pome frites and the duck. The mussels were fresh and delicious, the frites with the perfect amount of salt, the duck was spectacular! Juicy and tender. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse. It came with some cookies that were blah, but the mousse was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Good atmosphere for a date night. They have heaters in the outdoor area, which is a plus. I'll come back for sure to try the other dishes.
I loved this place because it’s not pretentious but they do an excellent job in the kitchen, the service is great and the wine list is very unique and delicious! Very happy to find this little gem !
Ate here for the first time. Amazing. When a restaurant has been in business for 20 yrs, it says something. Every dish was fantastic.
It had been awhile since we were there last. Hard to compare given Covid layout. Waiter was fine. So too the h0stess. We mistakenly remembered the menu and wine selections to be predominantly French. Not so today. The cuisine was more Eastern European, less nuanced and delicate than French. Doubt we’ll be back.
Sat outside, very good service, food was good if not spectacular. I'd go again, after a while --
Food was amazing, a great steak and cheese plate the San Andreas I believe it was called. 10/10
Wonder experience with our server, super attentive, fun, knowledgeable, and over all nice.
Go there. You won’t be disappointed. From the street it doesn’t look like much, but the food, yeah.
Great outdoor parklet set-up. Inviting and comfortable. The romaine salad was delicious, as was the lamb sausage flatbread pizza. Yum. Service was attentive and solid.
Love the move east. Great food!
Fun to sit outside & have a Covid safe meal
Great food and service, will certainly be back again!
After a few years of inconsistent food and mediocre service, the A Cote I’ve known and LOVED is back! The food is creative and beautifully prepared served by the nicest waitstaff to be found in Oakland.
Tia place offered very tasty dishes with great service.
The food was fantastic. Wait staff was super friendly and attentive.
43rd Anniversary Got a complimentary glass of Champagne. Lovely meal and only the 2nd dinner out since lockdown in March 2020
Our party of four dined at the lovely heated patio. Every dish we was interesting, presented beautifully, and delicious. Service was attentive and not overbearing. A great time was had by all. Time flew, and they had to kick us out — nicely :)
Thoughtful cozy restaurant atmosphere serving curated European dishes and wines, the food was tasty and service excellent.
The ambiance, service and pace of the dinner were exceptional! The wine list by the glass was limited.
It was lovely to dine outdoors and be warm enough! I’ve been here many times over the years and it’s always good. I think the food is not quite what it once was - but I chalk it up to pandemic difficulties. I’ll return. The waitstaff was great.
Food is amazing but wine selection isn’t consistent and is expensive
First post vaccination restaurant visit. Nice outdoor seating with heaters and space between tables. Service good.,Food was great. Romaine salad, shrimp cocktail, gnocchi, rock fish bourride. Wine by the glass was substandard and a large disappointment.
Perfect spot for one on one dinner with my stepmom for mother's day. Outside seating was spaced out and service was perfect. Food was so good and timed perfectly. The sangria and house spritz were super tasty. Can't wait to go back for their happy hour I saw of mussels, fries and wine. Thank you!
It has been more than a year since we last dined at A Cote and we were not disappointed. Maria, our server, was an absolute delight. She knows the menu inside and out. She recommended an absolutely perfect wine. She helped each of us choose plates that we could enjoy and also share with the rest of the table. And she did it all with poise, intelligence, a touch of humor and a charming personality. When we return, and we will, we will ask for Maria again.
We waited 25 minutes for an 8 pm reservation that we'd booked. Then once we sat, we waited another 20 minutes for water.
While the food was very good, the service was absolutely terrible. While I understand that COVID has left everyone short staffed, moving tables is a core part of the restaurants job and having us wait 25 minutes for a reservation without offering us a drink or ANYTHING seems unacceptable.
Everything was great, service included. Only thing that could be better was timeliness. The waitstaff was unnecessarily slow.
Food was amazing. The best pork chop I think I have ever had. Service was friendly and excellent.
À Côté is the best restaurant all around. I’m so happy every time I go there. The food is delectable and the service is wonderful. I love them so much.
Great atmosphere and good food. Nice selection of drinks and cocktails.
A little over kill with the masks. Waiters would not come to your table unless you put on your mask, which is annoying if you are eating and drinking. Never had to do this with any other restaurants
Our server was very amiable, and knowledgeable, but at times was slow in attending to our table.
The food and service were great overall. Adherence to to Covid precautions was excellent. Not sure why a restaurant at this level can't afford to provide new utensils with each course!
Why did they ask for special occasions (our anniversary) on the reservation, but did nothing to recognize it when we were there?
We wanted to eat inside. There are very few people inside and things were nicely socially distanced, but they must have had every window and door open and I actually think it would have been warmer outside next to a heat lamp. It was almost too dark to even see your food, service was slow, the meanie is extremely small and my dish was served luke warm, although it was very tasty. Not sure if I'd recommend it or not.
This place never disappoints! Delicious food and wonderful service and great wine recommendations. And the parklet was great ... we felt comfortable and safe.
"And there it was, mountains of duck. And not fatty duck either, but juicy tender breasts of duck"
-Elaine Benes, Seinfeld
da Scene: Reopening has us hitting old haunts and we're back in Oakland for another great night @ À Côté !
da Grub: Started with a Manhattan, Mussels & Pomme Frites - a great start! Then Duck Confit and Coulotte Steak... Duck was tender, savory greatness, the 2 glasses of red paired nicely. Finished with a fine glass of Port, cheesecake and double espresso. Cliche? Yep... but a pretty good one!
da Service: Street parking can be tough... with parklets peppered about. Doors opened right at 5pm, was hoping for the back patio... NOT, but took an inside table by the window, can we request the back patio somehow when making reservations please? Food & drinks were expedited perfectly, staff were great, and kept everything safe. Parklet looked comfy, windows and drapes protect the experience. 5th star for coming back strong!
