This place never disappoints! Delicious food and wonderful service and great wine recommendations. And the parklet was great ... we felt comfortable and safe.
"And there it was, mountains of duck. And not fatty duck either, but juicy tender breasts of duck"
-Elaine Benes, Seinfeld
da Scene: Reopening has us hitting old haunts and we're back in Oakland for another great night @ À Côté !
da Grub: Started with a Manhattan, Mussels & Pomme Frites - a great start! Then Duck Confit and Coulotte Steak... Duck was tender, savory greatness, the 2 glasses of red paired nicely. Finished with a fine glass of Port, cheesecake and double espresso. Cliche? Yep... but a pretty good one!
da Service: Street parking can be tough... with parklets peppered about. Doors opened right at 5pm, was hoping for the back patio... NOT, but took an inside table by the window, can we request the back patio somehow when making reservations please? Food & drinks were expedited perfectly, staff were great, and kept everything safe. Parklet looked comfy, windows and drapes protect the experience. 5th star for coming back strong!
Superb service, food and wine. Loved the patio and the care to be Covid safe. So glad to be with you at ACote. My friends have never been and they loved it as well.
The service always spectacular but very nice that they kept Covid protocol. The food was absolutely delectable. One of the best pork chops I’ve ever eaten. Overall, wonderful service, wonderful food.
The place was perfectly lovely, but the food was forgettable. The pasta was swimming in oil that added no flavor or discernable benefit. The staff was lovely, professional, and took Covid seriously, and the back patio was charming, if a bit cold.
Food and service were great! Ambience is as much as it can be in a parklet.
The food is ok but not great. Had to put on mask every time the waiter deliver the food on the table. It got to be a bit annoying after a while.
Our waiter Alonso was amazing and walked us through our wine selection process (since this restaurant has a special wine process that alters flavors of traditional wines). The staff made us feel so welcomed and at home. The ambiance was lovely, the heaters and string lights were beautiful and it was fairly quiet. The only downside was being in the parklet out us directly next to loud motorcycles on the road, but such is the norm now and I don’t fault the restaurant whatsoever. The siding also blocked wind and most of that noise anyways. Would definitely return!
The ambiance is wonderful. The curtains were open so we could see the garden. The food was very good--there were several items on the menu that were entirely new to us.
I tried a fancy cocktail and didn't like so the server took it back and brought me something else without a qualm.
Actually, this is my favorite restaurant. I was thrilled that it survived.
Great place for an amazing dinner. Never disappoints
Great experience. Loved the mussels and frites. Service staff was polite and friendly and great with making us feel safe.
Very accommodating to our disabled guest.
Excellent food.
I know A Cote will return to former excellence after Covid restrictions are lifted.
Fantastic meal on the back patio. Lots of safety measures which everyone followed. Food was absolutely excellent. Enjoy the unique wine choices. Excellent service. They know their stuff and we had a great time.
The wheatberry salad was outstanding. The pommes frites were very good but the aioli tasted like somewhat like plain mayo with a sweetish lemon flavor--a regular garlic aioli would have been better. The sauce for the mussels was excellent although quite salty--and I am a person who normally loves salt. The mussels were somewhat tough and not very fresh-tasting. The chicken pot pie was a real dud. The pastry was meh and the filling was liquid-y and blah. (I realized in retrospect that the waiter, Alonzo who was excellent, might have subtly tried to steer us away from the chicken pot pie, but the three of us diners couldn't agree on the other mains.) The margarita was top quality and the glass of red wine was absolutely great (Alonzo recommended it based on my tastes and was quite right) and a very generous pour. The parklet outdoors was very pleasant, roomy and warm but the heater ran out of propane before we left and no one came to replace it, even though it was only about 7:30 when we left. I would still recommend it for happy hour for the drinks and ambience.
My favorite neighborhood kitchen with a great selection of international wines.
Birthday celebration. Tasty food and good service
We have been going to this restaurant for nearly 14 years. It has a sentimental aura for us.
The pomme frites and mussels were great as usual. The chicken pot pie was a treat and the rest including desert was very good.
Good food, atmosphere and service given the current covid circumstances. Perhaps a little pricey, but would recommend it, and will probably return.
Great service!
Food was good, warm outdoor dining
We had a lovely dinner at A Cote. The food was excellent. We had not been there for a while, and were impressed with how delicious every course was. This restaurant has maintained its high quality for years!!
My husband and I were seated in their outdoor patio area in the back of the restaurant. The back patio was spacious, dimly lit, romantic and somewhat warm. Our server was friendly and polite. Each dish we ate was filling, flavorful and satisfying and consisted of: a glass of Laski Rizling, a negroni, a hot cocktail named Angelic Hooks, Suppli al Telefono, Frassinetto Wheat Berry Salad, Gnocchi a la Parisienne, Lasagne Bolognese, and Berry Cheesecake. The ambience of the back patio was an excellent location for an early Valentine's Day celebration. Salute!
I've always loved this restaurant. The servers did a great job and the food was amazing. We suspected before getting here that we might be sitting in the street near the sidewalk in a makeshift dining room but I was disappointed when I accidentally wondered inside too far and saw that they were seating "special (?)" guests on the back patio. Not quite sure what we needed to do for that preferential treatment but I felt a bit bummed out after that. Regardless we enjoyed ourselves and it was nice to order some amazing drinks from a bar again and have some tasty bites.. A bit of normalcy and happiness restored.
Small menu. Well executed. Great ambiance. Fantastic service.
Happy to be back in one of my favorite local restaurants.
Definitely have been and will return. It is unforutnate that due to Covid-19, the restaurants in the Bay Area must close until January 2021.
Food and wine were excellent!
A cote is the best, reminds me of Cochon in NOLA. A great gem on college ave.
Outdoor covid dining felt both safe and cozy. The food was delicious and the tables were spaced far apart which I appreciated.
Great food and great atmosphere. Love the outdoor dining. Staff was very friendly. Very COVID - conscious.
I always love the mussels, fries, and the dip. I do wish you'd sell 1/2 size orders of fries! It's just too much for me. My companions loved their meals too. Our waitress was wonderful. We had fun.
Great date night under COVID restrictions. Highly recommend!
What a wonderful experience! Sadly, I don't eat out much these days for obvious reasons. From host to server, service is warm and friendly. They have a wine list that has unfamiliar-to-me wines, so advice and tastes were helpful in making decisions. The short rib beef bourguignon was one of the best dishes I've had in ages - the portion and value were great. I wasn't keen on eating "outside" but they have created a tent structure over their back patio that fools you into thinking you are indoors when they are following all the required safety rules. They have also built a structure out front that is dramatic with lighting and heaters.
I can't recommend them highly enough and can't wait to go back!
The wait staff was superb, very attentive! This was my first time eating here as well as my first time eating dinner out since SIP began. The outside space was very well planned with tables spaced apart, heaters running, well lit, and an overall cheery space.
The food was scrumptious! Their pomme frites were to perfection, crispy and not greasy. The short ribs were tender and tasty. I will definitely be back!
Loved it! The mussels and mains were delicious.
We have been to A Cote many times and always enjoy it. We refer to it as our “happy”’place. However, it was very surreal to be there and not have small plates and a cheese plate. It felt like a regular restaurant experience instead of the unique experience that has always been A Cote. Looking forward to when things go back to normal and we can enjoy A Cote again.
We love going there. Everything was great except my meal
Couscous alla trapanase. That Entrée need to be re worked. The seasoning was off and I really should’ve had my waiter take it back. Will go back but I will never order that again hopefully they’ll take it off the menu.
Had an okay experience. Not a lot of vegan items to choose from.
It was my husband’s 60th birthday (coincidentally, the night the election was called)! We had a beautiful spot at the back of the patio against the little garden and drapes. Never has the outdoor seating felt so special as in a pandemic and on that particular post election night. Our server was sweet as could be, helpful with wines, attentive, but let us savor the moment as we sipped a tasty champagne and allowed ourselves a sense of relief and celebration as we watched speeches on our glowing rectangles in candlelight along with the others at this early seating. Perfection. Thank you!
