Always a fun time, food was great!
Food here was excellent, as was the service. However it was very cold inside and quite dark. Wear a sweater and bring a flashlight.
An Oakland gem. Informal, friendly atmosphere, with bistro-feeling tables on the sidewalk and more private tables under soft lighting within. Creative /accessible/French-Mediterranean inspired/sharable dishes with enough variety to suit all tastes. Mussels with perfectly cooked fries, pizza-like flatbread with a Greek twist, fresh-off-the-boat beautifully- prepared salmon, and sliced steak ample enough for four diners to share were just a few standouts. Creative cocktails. An unintimidating, thoughtfully curated wine list carefully matched the food choices.Highly knowledgeable and friendly servers gave spot-on recommendations. Service was low-key, attentive yet unintrusive, with great timing between courses. Dinner was not inexpensive (almost $300 for 4 people including tip) but reasonable given the quality and service. You will not be disappointed!
Pate was excellent and mussels and frites are a must every time
I let them know it was our anniversary ahead of time. Made us wait for more than half an hour past our reservation time while multiple open tables were available. Didn't bother to ask our preference for seating until 25 mins of waiting. Didn't bother to offer us a drink from the bar. Gave us two half-glasses of cheap champagne once seated instead of treating us like thoughtfully. Took the wind out of our night before it even started. Not returning, not recommending. Food was fine.
I have been a frequent patronage of A Cote for years and it is still an awesome place to have food and drinks. The service was suburb and our server is training. She did a wonderful job.
the food is absolutely fresh and delicious. Spices just right. Cooked perfectly. Our waitress was fantastic.
Acote is my “go to” fine dining restaurant in the dynamic city of Oakland. Nestled on college Avenue , Acote has the options of a lovely intimate patio dining area, grain wood interior, or the new outdoor East coast style sidewalk dining for those who Like to people watch while enjoying a 5 star meal. Acote’s head chef’s house made international dishes with organic ingredients make every meal a vacation, and the sommelier ensures a wonderful selection of global wine and spirits selections. The staff, led by the star Mgr Caroline, make you feel welcomed and cared for. My business associates look forward to dining here when in town.
- and my girlfriends consider this our special place for treat days .
The mussels were FANTASTIC!! I’ve waited a year to go back to A Cote for the mussels. I was not disappointed! Worth the wait!!
The food was outstanding except for the mussels which are usually amazing. In the past, the server and wait staff made us feel very special. Last night staff were generally nice and helpful…just not the same super hospitality.
Great to be back. Food as good as ever. Social distancing made inside less energetic, but still very nice.
French fries and the Romain salad were delicious. Everything else was just OK
Everything about our evening was delightful. We walked in and were warmly greeted by the hostess, who led us to a table on the lovely back patio. From the time we arrived through the meal and to our departure, the staff were courteous and helpful. A special shout-out to our server, Malia, who was warm and yet highly professional, attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable but not overbearing. And the food was absolutely wonderful. One of us had the pork tenderloin with stone fruit and found it delicious. The other of us had the wonderful mussels and fries. What a treat was that combo!! And the final Chocolate Mousse topped off the meal. Oh, yes, and we brought home most of the yummy olives we had ordered as a starter and didn’t really get to. We will definitely be returning!
Mussels and fries were outstanding. Mezcal cocktail was equally good, as was the wine and dessert of strawberry shortcake.
Everything was wonderful. Ambience, service, and oh, the food! WONDERFUL!
Food was mediocre at best. Everything was under salted and lacked flavor. Even the mussels were grainy and not fresh. This place has really gone downhill. Won’t be returning.
A fun evening on the sidewalk pavilion, moules frites and wine. What a treat.
Amazing recommendations from the team on our meal and our sparkling wine. We had a beautiful evening!
Great ambience in their backyard outdoor seating with heaters! Very accommodating for our vegan and allergic friends. Delicious drinks. Food was not remarkable. Salads were unimpressive. Best dish was the mussels.
Seated in a covered ‘park let’ off the sidewalk, but nicely appointed with sun-blocking drapes and space heaters. Food was excellent as usual. Slight glitch getting our second round of drinks to the table along with our second courses but waiter removed them from the bill. All in all a fine dinner.
Food was outstanding as always. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we were so excited to go back there after everything. Love the variety of the menu and the creative cocktail list.
We had an extremely enjoyable evening on their back patio. The food and service was outstanding.
Had reservations for two and were promptly seated inside. Reasonably quiet. Service was responsive throughout. Appetizers arrived quickly. Soup was beautifully presented and delicious. Pommes Frites were well seasoned and very generous (too much for two, perhaps just right for four). Flatbread (pizza) was tasty. Asked for red pepper flakes which were provided. Ordered ribeye medium rare but it arrived medium. And needed seasoning! Requested salt and, after a slight wait, a little salt and pepper was provided. Several Yelp reviews described "under seasoning" so this may be the chef's preference. But we were not alone in wanting to spice it up a bit. We shared a strawberry shortcake that was attractive and good, but not memorable. Perhaps as good as that dessert gets. Coffee was excellent.
A good experience at A Cote during this curious pandeemic re-opening period. Our party of 4 sat in the open back deck section, and felt comfortable with air movement and table spacing. Service was prompt and efficient - a plus when so many restaurants are struggling to find staff. Salads were good, gazpacho was excellent, and the squash spaghetti was fresh and tasty. Wine was interesting (something from Bosnia) - we didn't love it, but it's good to try something different. Overall - happy to be back at one of our favorite restaurants.
Lovely cocktails, excellent food with an interesting and seasonally updated menu
Love this place
There is no children’s menu or any real options for kids. This is a failure to be inclusive that would be so easy to fix.
We went Friday evening. We booked through the Open Table app ( super easy), and we ordered the white gazpacho (tasty!) mussels and pome frites and the duck. The mussels were fresh and delicious, the frites with the perfect amount of salt, the duck was spectacular! Juicy and tender. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse. It came with some cookies that were blah, but the mousse was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Good atmosphere for a date night. They have heaters in the outdoor area, which is a plus. I'll come back for sure to try the other dishes.
I loved this place because it’s not pretentious but they do an excellent job in the kitchen, the service is great and the wine list is very unique and delicious! Very happy to find this little gem !
Ate here for the first time. Amazing. When a restaurant has been in business for 20 yrs, it says something. Every dish was fantastic.
It had been awhile since we were there last. Hard to compare given Covid layout. Waiter was fine. So too the h0stess. We mistakenly remembered the menu and wine selections to be predominantly French. Not so today. The cuisine was more Eastern European, less nuanced and delicate than French. Doubt we’ll be back.
Sat outside, very good service, food was good if not spectacular. I'd go again, after a while --
Food was amazing, a great steak and cheese plate the San Andreas I believe it was called. 10/10
Wonder experience with our server, super attentive, fun, knowledgeable, and over all nice.
Go there. You won’t be disappointed. From the street it doesn’t look like much, but the food, yeah.
Great outdoor parklet set-up. Inviting and comfortable. The romaine salad was delicious, as was the lamb sausage flatbread pizza. Yum. Service was attentive and solid.
Love the move east. Great food!
Fun to sit outside & have a Covid safe meal
Great food and service, will certainly be back again!
After a few years of inconsistent food and mediocre service, the A Cote I’ve known and LOVED is back! The food is creative and beautifully prepared served by the nicest waitstaff to be found in Oakland.
