À Côté is a small-plates restaurant in Oakland's charming Rockridge district. Cozy tables surround large communal tables in both the main dining room and on the sunny patio to create a festive atmosphere. Small plates reflecting the best of seasonal Mediterranean cuisine are served family-style by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Menu items are paired with a carefully chosen selection of over 40 wines by the glass as well as a highly diverse bottled wine menu. Specialty drinks featuring fresh fruits, rare botaniques and fine liqueurs are featured at the bar.
I’ve gone to A’Cote in years past and had a good experience. This time, the service was poor and one of our parties’ entree arrived 20 min after the rest of the entrees. The waiter was not apologetic. I will not go to this restaurant again.
We have returned several times to this neighborhood gem. Although loud, we still managed to converse with friends who were first timers. Food is consistently good.
Fantastic AS USUAL!!! Our go to across town met all of our expectations, as usual! We love A Côtè!! Their Mussels and Fries are, hands down, THE BEST!!!
I had the loin of pork. It was unusually bland. The lentils were fine.
They continue to do a great job year after year with the food and beverage. They have a great happy hour also which is very popular.
I have walked by this restaurant a hundred times; however, for some reason never made it inside. -until this Bastille Day. What a wonderful experience. We sat outside in a charming patio surrounded by flowers. The food was terrific for everyone -especially the steak, scallops and muscles in the most amazing broth (had to ask for extra bread twice to sop up all the delectable goodness). I will be coming back for more very soon.
Have been wanting to try the mussels at A Cote for quite a while and was not disappointed! They were large and sweet and the pernod infused broth was delicious. My husband had the scallops and loved them. We shared a generous order of perfect pommes frittes.
The one negative I have is the general attitude of the staff. The gentleman who seated us checked our reservation and took us to our table barely acknowledging us. Our waiter was cordial, answered our questions, but seemed to just be going through the motions.
We would return for the food, but hope that the staff would be more welcoming.
For the price, the food was very disappointing. I won’t come back again.
Fries were way too salty and, coming from a salt lover, it’s saying a lot. The service was also somewhat lacking. The best part is the outdoor patio dining in the back. Otherwise would probably not come again.
What made this evening was not the meal but the special guests singers Kitka.
A Cote is a wonderful place. The bar is friendly but what makes the place great is the consistently good dishes like the steamed mussels, margarita pizza, and wonderful salads. The place is cozy and comfortable and you can visit. Just a great restaurant. Enjoy your dinner there.
Very disappointing experience. We attended because of a special Georgian night. Unfortunately, the waitress was totally unfamiliar with the wines and only somewhat familiar with the food. She suggested bringing the sommelier over to our table, which took 30 minutes. Then the sommelier recommended a wine that was on the edge of turning. When I spoke with him about that, he was indifferent and just said, "so, you don't like the wine." When the waitress asked about how everything was, I said "OK," and her response was "perfect." Just really strange service.
Great opportunity to try their Georgian menu this week. It was fun and very well down, including a selection of Georgian wines. Thanks to the chef!
Just truly one of the best dining experiences of my life. Best place to celebrate our anniversary
The Georgian dishes they had on (special menu, on for two weeks) were superb. Loved all four dishes we had (bread with egg and cheese; dumplings; barbecued pork; chicken). Delicious orange wine too (my only complaint - serve the orange wines at cellar temp, ie 55ish F, and not as warm as you did... the wine must have been at close to 70 if not 75F, which is a big no no).
Acote is one of our favorite restaurants because food and service is always spot on. However, on Saturday service was so off. We had a 6:45pm sitting, our server didn’t get our orders til after 20 minutes of waiting. We finally got our first drinks around 7:29 pm and our first dish 10mins later. Long wait!!! Our second drink order was wrong so we had to wait again. I wish our server was a little bit sensitive to our long wait. Food and drinks were delicious. Hopefully next time we bring friends will have a better experience.
Loved the mussels
I ❤️❤️❤️ this restaurant. New server and he was Awesome! Definitely took service up two notches!!!! The little gem salad was so fresh and the addition of fresh dill made it even more so. Of course...we go A Cote for the mussels but the scallops with the fresh pea sprigs was amazing...perfectly cooked and the sauce was a summer time flavor event. Kudos to a wonderful Saturday evening dinner. And the salty dog hit the spot. Will be back soon!
We have always enjoyed A Coté and did again last night.
Food, service and ambience was wonderful partly because we sat on the outside patio. It would have been too noisy inside.
A Cote is one of the few French bistros around that combines excellent upscale food with unpretentious but attentive service in a cosy and low key ambience. They take pride in their wine program and offer many unusual choices.
I’ve been eating at A Cote for years and love the food and ambience. Our dinner Wednesday night was delicious, as usual. My one pause is the cost of a bottle of wine. Nothing less than $40-which for a small plate and casual neighborhood restaurant seems too high.
We had a dinner at A Côté. Everything was great. The food was delicious, excellent service and very nice selection of wine and cocktails. I’d highly recommend this restaurant and will go there again soon!
I celebrated my birthday recently at Acote and loved the ambiance and food. Service was lacking and we were given desserts on the house. It was a nice gesture, but I still don’t feel good about returning anytime soon.
Still dreaming about those divine mussels!! The halibut crudo was also delicious. We miss the fried chicken dish. Please bring it back!!
I love this restaurant.
Unfortunately, our server this time was not very friendly, but the food was great and overall it was a great time
Reserved table was not ready, took over an hour to have the food served.Apparently there was an accident in the kitchen but the server did not offer anything while we waited. Food was good but service unacceptable.
Talisia was knowledgeable, friendly and accurate in her service. thank you!
A Cote was a great spot for my husband and I to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. The food was really tasty, prices were on point (much cheaper than you would pay in San Fran) and our waitress was really funny and attentive. Ambiance outside was great. Highly recommend!
So, we’ve been to A Cote many, many times (it’s one of our favorites) and the food and overall service was a fabulous as usual, but last night we had a waiter who seemed really annoyed that we were there. She was efficient, but had absolutely no patience for us whatsoever. She was all business, to the point of being rude, and really didn’t want us to waste her time. The other servers, bussers, the young kid who brought us to our table, were all friendly and engaging but our waiter NEVER once cracked a smile or made us feel welcome. I usually cut servers a lot of slack (having waited tables myself) but this woman was notable. We aren’t a particularly demanding group and generally not critical but I really felt compelled to write this as this woman really did put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable evening.
A core has become a neighborhood pleasure.
The wine selection was unusual.
Their chocolate ice cream dessert was spectacularly good.
Food was oily and the only vegetarian option was pizza. Very disappointing
Overall, very good experience. The mussels & fries are still a MUST order - comes out quickly. Always ask for extra bread to soak up that incredible broth. We tried some new items on menu- Reopubic of Georgia inspired dishes - the pork with lentils was just OK. The flatbread was salty. The ricotta ravioli was the stand out entree. Really good. Ended the meal with the always exceptional ricotta fritters. A great neighborhood restaurant (even if it is a bit pricey).
Really slow service-
Food was poor to mediocre at best. Salad overdressed. No
Ham on the ham flatbread. Asparagus came about 30 min after the rest of our food.
Used to be great but won’t be back. Not worth $80 for two, not by a long shot.
This restaurant is fantastic for a date night or an intimate dinner with friends. Our waiter, Zach, was wonderful and delightfully descriptive in his discussions about the wine list and food menu. I was seated as soon as I walked through the door (make a reservation, this place gets poppin'!) and once my friends arrived, the waitstaff ran a smooth, well-oiled operation.
I was most impressed with the sheer selection of apertifs, cocktails, and wine list. There's something for everyone here! We enjoyed the mussels, marinated olives, and lamb shank with pita and hummus to share for dinner. Everything had a perfect attention to detail, the presentations were rustic and beautiful, and the entire dining experience was really exceptional. The ambiance is low lit, with tea lights and string lights, which made for a romantic, quieter atmosphere.
Awesome, breadth of red wine options could be broader (a full-bodied red was needed)
The food was fabulous, our server gave us great insight on the wine and overall everything was great.
Great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or special event! Delicious food and attentive, friendly service. Pretty rich and not a lot of vegan options, but great place to splurge! If you come around sundown might get a little blinded by light coming in through the front windows, but they do their best to work around it.
I’ve been to a cote many times for special occasions and never been disappointed by the experience. This most recent time the service was really subpar. The wait staff was not friendly or professional. It really diminished the pleasure in the meal
