Jewel on the water... Great views of Golden Gate and San Francisco across the Bay with ships and ferries making crossings, arriving and departing... But its about the food and ambiance - and A Caprice is top notch. While this was a special occasion (birthday), A Caprice is a charmer every visit. Staff are helpful, not obtrusive, and willing to make extra effort when asked.

Short walk along water from Main St. if you are staying in Tiburon. Nice view and family friendly or good for romantic evening for two. Would recommend.

The food and service was great. The hostess was cranky and threatened to move us from our window seat and also accused us of being late which we were not. I think she had us confused with another party. Not a good beginning to a special occasion.

Beautiful, great service and nice menu. We would return. Our table was in a cramped corner so we will ask for something else next time. Service was friendly and efficient. Our meals were delicious! Although the portion of salmon was tiny, maybe a skinny 3oz. So if you are hungry have a starter.

We dined there with friends who had shared with us that the restaurant is for sale and may not be there much longer. We were somewhat disappointed. The restaurant was warm, the food was OK but nothing special and it was expensive for what we received.

A special view of Racoon straights but otherwise a disappointment.

Portions were tiny for the price. Food tasted fair. Waiters actually were too much in the way for our conversation. The 18% tip they added to the bill was insulting.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with halibut which was delicious. I loved the quinoa as well, it was flavored very well. We also really enjoyed had the butterscotch crème Brule and the berry sorbet. The service was impeccable and the view was wonderful.

The history and view/location are unique in the world and worth the less than perfect things in this review. Friendly valet service solves the parking space challenge. Inside, It is loud and hard for a table of four to talk comfortably by 7. The food is good and so are the wine choices without being over the top. The seafood is cooked perfectly. The vegetables on the dinner plates are skimpy at best. Get a first course or you will leave hungry unless you eat very lightly. The desserts are generous on comparison to the main course.

Plan on reminding your busy waiter about the birthday you noted in your reservation and when you arrived. Service varies by work load and you may go through your whole meal without extra water if the waiter is busy with other tables. Space is tight and the waiters put up with the crush and expect you to do so too.

Food is fine but we go for the view (can't be beat anywhere-SanFrancisco bay) and great, friendly service.

Caprice has been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions since I moved here 42 years ago. I often requested to be treated to dinner at Caprice for my birthdays. This time, friends were visiting from Pasadena, and they wanted a nice view. We all just loved the experience, in all ways. We especially thought our waiter was about as perfect as they come; he was knowledgable, peaceful, pleasant, and attentive.

we noted in reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and told our waiter as well. However, they did not even bring a birthday dessert. My "medium rare" , was a "medium to well", not rare at all. High end restaurants typically have a mouche bouche and/or small treat at the end, Caprice had nothing.

The food and the views were nice, however this place is very small inside. Unfortunately, they are attempting to cramp as many people into that space as possible. As a result, the noise level was extremely loud. I was not able to understand my wife, who was sitting across from me. In addition, the space felt super tight. I was very disappointed, given all the positive reviews I have read.

Our dinner on 8/17 at A Caprise made my birthday! It was my first time there & it was excellent, from the view to the menu selections to the food quality to the service. Our waiter was great at addressing our gluten-free requirements and providing top-notch service despite the many other tables he was serving. I cannot wait to return!

A Caprice is a quality establishment. Full of ambiance with fantastic views of San Francisco across the bay, part of Angel Island to the left, and the Tiburon waterfront on your right. We went because some friends mentioned it was a great find so we headed out from San Francisco to visit and taste Tiburon. After browsing at some interesting stores at the waterfront, we dropped off our car to the valet attendant. We found A Caprice cozy, with friendly and attentive staff. The menu was varied enough to cater to the most discriminating diner. Some of our group took advantage of their special 3 item price fixe choices, with others ordering the pappardelle entree, petrale sole, and the risotto entrees. Everyone was contented with their choice and with great satisfaction announced that their dish had sufficient flavor, and correct texture, freshness and cooked to their liking. Their desserts reflected the right amount of sweetness, with flavor so intense to remind them these were no store-bought items but required someone of skill to prepare them on site.

This was our first time there, but on our return trip to San Francisco, some of us were already planning to take other friends there to duplicate the dining experience. If someone wanted to make this more of a special occasion, the dining experience could be enhanced with a ferry trip to the Tiburon dock from and back San Francisco.

Keep A Caprice in mind the next time you don't want to "just eat out!"
