If you’ve ever enjoyed the 888 dining experience, you know it’s not like your average Bay Area Italian restaurant. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown San Carlos, 888 Ristorante Italiano brings authentic flavors of Italy to Laurel Street. 888 was created from a passion for Italian cuisine that’s deep-rooted in the Maddalena family. Owner Vince Maddalena and Chef Raul learned their craft through growing up in the restaurant industry. Specifically, Maddalena’s, owned by Vince’s dad for over 30 years in Palo Alto. When Vince’s dad closed shop, Vince knew he wanted to continue sharing his passion for food with the public. And so 888 was born! When it comes to cooking, we never take shortcuts. Almost all of our menu is made in-house and we keep things fresh by changing our dishes as seasons come and go. Enjoy our intimate dining experience with a significant other, family and friends or just let us know if you have a large group and we would be happy to accommodate. The food is fantastic. The proprietor takes care of you personally. The specials are reliably great. Wine list is also great. It’s a perfect place for a romantic evening.

Two 60 year old cousins had an early dinner and enjoyed pasta bolognese and fillet of soul. The food was delicious! The noise level was low so we could enjoy each other’s conversation and the service was great.

888 never fails to impress!! We love that everything that we ever have is better than we can make at home. The most amazing Gorgonzola gnocchi of all time. Vincenzo is always a delight. If you go for lunch - the calamari ceasar salad is always a win.

We felt so cared for by the staff and owner of 888. They immediately mentioned my dietary restrictions and offered options which is unusual and generally takes the fun out of dining out. The meal was so delicious and prepared beautifully. I could have licked the plate! Would go again in a heartbeat. Plus the bill was very reasonable for a really fine dining experience!

Amazing food and warm atmosphere! The bruschetta was a true masterpiece (as always)—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. The chef’s dishes took us right back to Sardinia. We’re locals and will definitely keep dining here. A real treat!

Yesterday was my birthday and my friend took me to 888 for lunch. It was like being in Italy with the beautiful ambience and pace to enjoy conversation and outstanding food. Every dish was outstanding in the quality and preparation from the Caesar salad with delicate calamari, beet salad with pine nuts, sautéed salmon and shrimp with vegetables, eggplant rigatoni and desserts! The cheesecake was so smooth and light and my friend raved about the chocolate caramel ice cream with a drizzle of ‘off the hook’ olive oil.. So, for amazing high quality authentic Italian fare in an environment that may remind you of your last time in Luca, Italy, go here, slow down for an hour, and be transported

I came in for lunch on a random weekday. It was lovely, so we sat outside. The waiter was friendly, capable, and take good care of us. It's largely due to him that this is a 3-star review, since the food was a letdown. The bread was good, as was the olive oil, as you'd expect at an Italian restaurant. My companions and I ordered the pasta Bolognese, the lasagna, and ravioli with cheese and spinach in a sage butter sauce. The Bolognese was the standout, as evidenced by the fact that my companion finished it down to practically licking the plate. The lasagna and ravioli, however, were lackluster. The lasagna was bland and unstructured, basically noodles with some sauce and cheese on top. The ravioli were swimming in butter. Not good for the arteries and not tasty, either. Given the meh food, I won't be back soon.
