Loved the atmosphere. Was a great experience. Enjoyed just walking around and taking in all that is offered. Our food was presented well, served hot! The waiter was a little slow getting back with us before we ordered, but overall he was helpful. We would definitely come back and recommend 818 Market again.
This was our second time visiting 818. They offer a very limited menu as it is, but they were out of certain dishes by 7:30. While the food quality/taste is very good, food and especially drinks are over-priced and under poured . . especially for the area. While other local establishments have decent crowds, very few folks are dining here (at least when we visit). Unless the owner has deep pockets - not sure this one will make it.
818 has become a go to spot for me, the environment and food are amazing. Colin Quinn is a great server that is very attentive and helpful in making your visit exceptional.
1/2 the tables food was brought out 5 min before the other half. The pancakes were brought to me cold, my friend ordered the steak and eggs dish and asked for her steak to be medium rare, it came out medium well after being the later arrival to our table. The reason they get 2 stars is because the manager was very apologetic and only charged us for the mimosa's that were ordered.
Wanted to love this place - it's got a great market downstairs, fantastic location, and overall nice ambiance. However, the service was terrible and most of the food was not good. My husband's chicken was very undercooked and pink, plus the menu said it was a stuffed chicken with chorizo - no stuffing in sight. We would have sent it back but honestly, we had to wait so long in between even seeing our server, that we didn't want to stay any longer than we had to. The waiter forgot our appetizer, and we had to ask twice for it - waiter never apologized and brought it halfway through our main meal - dropped it on the table and literally said "here you go." My pork loin was very dry and overcooked, and our friends both got a chicken sandwich that was overcooked and dry. The tuna tartare and the root beer cocktail were both very good, but everything else was a huge disappointment. I would go back for a drink, but not for a meal.
Great, attentive and friendly service. Tables were well spaced. We got seated near the stairs/entry, so a little noisy (the market was still open and they were grinding coffee, as well as people checking out, coming and going). The cocktails and wine selection were stellar. The duck was very disappointing, not tender or crispy, overall bland dish. But everything else was great. Tuna Tartare and Pork Belly were well seasoned, great presentation. The Brussel Sprouts, I would perhaps commit crimes for, they were incredible!
The highlight of our evening was having Nick as our server. He was very pleasant, courteous, and attentive.
The downfall was the drink and food items. We've been to this restaurant on a few occasions. We are less impressed after each visit. On this particular night, we ordered the chorizo-stuffed chicken. There was NO chorizo stuffing. Nick was unable to explain why, so he took the plate to the chef for explanation. When he returned, he said the chef told him they were out of chorizo, so it was stuffed with chicken. Chicken-stuffed chicken??? Thats just chicken, folks. That's also false advertising. In addition to the chicken, we ordered the falafel and lamb chop small plates. They were ok, but they both came with the same cucumber salad and sauce. They might think to mix things up a bit and eliminate the redundancies of flavors. The menu is small enough to be duplicating tastes. Lastly, we order the beignet and coffee bread pudding. Nick did tell us that the texture was weird but to give it a try. He was very right. It was weird. We would not order this again.
This restaurant is a couple of miles away from home, but we think we'll drive a little further for a better culinary experience.
We had a lovely time dining with friends at 818 yesterday. This was our first dining experience there and we were very pleased. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the ambience was perfect. We will definitely go back. So great to have such a special place 5 minutes away from home. We may even try walking there some time.
Very good food and excellent service. We will be back.
I highly recommend 818 Market! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The downstairs market is also a must to check out!
Ambiance was decent, food was so-so, our bartender was friendly, but the lack of systems was a miss. While sitting at the bar & in the middle of ordering our meal, we were interrupted by other employees twice who simply walked up next to us & asked the bartender to make them a drink for their table. It was very weird. The biggest issue at 818 was the way the short, bald manager was treating the other employees. He was berating the bartenders & servers right in front of customers, saying things like "Don't you have a brain?" and "Try using your words." It was shocking & unprofessional, his attitude was just a total turnoff & I felt bad for the staff.
Our family of 4 ate Easter Brunch at 818 Market. It was our first brunch there, but we've gone before for lunch, dinner, and tapas. Every experience is wonderful! The food is elevated and interesting, but not pretentious. Our kids loved the breakfast sliders (breakfast sausage, maple aioli, brioche) and the avocado toast. We loved the steak and eggs and the BLTP (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Peaches on Texas Toast). We finished our brunch by sharing a couple of strawberry shortcakes, on biscuits our server said were made in-house. Every bite was amazing! This place does great craft cocktails and their team had built that into an impressive mimosa list. Service was friendly and professional. On the way out, we got a housemate quiche in the market downstairs, for breakfast tomorrow. Definite A+ - can't wait to go back!
The food was outstanding. Oysterd on half shell delicious and varied kinds. Small plates of lamp chops in cucumber sauce,, sliced succulent duck, and a marvelous pastry tart filled with a mushroom mixture were prelude to what one Baltimore native claimed to be the BEST crabcake he’d ever had.
The saffron house-infused gin and with champagne cocktail was delicious. The server was cheerful and totally efficient; every staff member greeted us with a smile and offered help. An outstanding birthday celebration with delicious desserts, a candle, and a song.
Excellent atmosphere. Everyone inside was truly wonderful. Julia, our server, was perfect. Not overbearing but attentive and pleasant. Food portions are more European in size, which means you get a serving. Not 2 or 3, so you don’t feel bloated at the end of your meal. Everything about this says return.
