Must hit this place if you’re in Charlotte! Impeccable service & incredibly tasty food!
5church was probably one of me and my boyfriends favorite places so far. All of our food came out promptly and they even accommodated for his birthday. Overall, the food was great and perfectly portioned.
We went on St Pattys day so the crowd was loud as well as the DJ but it was a beautiful time for my family .
It’s an awesome place for a special occasion.
We loved our first dinner here. This time was a bit different. We had the whole fried fish special, but the inner meat was left raw. The manager and server were very friendly, and apologized and comp’d that part of the meal. Cappuccino machine was broken, and the dessert was mediocre. Lamb burger was delicious (we’d had this before)...
Great food, great atmosphere, great experience. Love this place!
Really disappointed in the food and value. Ordered the small plate octupus and it was mushy and not flavorful. Small plate was Very small. Ordered small plate roasted chicken flat bread. The flat bread was probably 12 inches round the toppings cover about half of it ! Come on ! Butternut bisque was very good with tempura lobster , which was ok even if a little oily. Had large plate sesame tuna, which tuna was good but seved with nothing else on plate except dash wasabi and drisel of soy. The pysical plate is big the portion is maybe 5 ounces. It looks lost on the plate! We were there maybe 3 years ago and everything was great, this visit awful ! Are they trying to live off reputation of place for celebrities and not serving wuality food and portions ?
No value, very disappointing, will not return.
The location, beautiful decor, knowledgable attentive staff and delicious meal make 5Church a real gem in Charlotte.
Very friendly staff. The food was not consistent. The sides came to the table cold, the main dishes seemed to be cooked well. Overall I think there are better choices in the surrounding area.
My husband and I had early reservations for dinner before a show at the Blumenthal. The restaurant was packed (ACC basketball semis in town) and the hostess wasn’t able to seat us right away. I couldn’t help but feel that they’d given our table to a walk in. We were seated in probably the worst table in the restaurant. Upstairs and right next to the kitchen and servers stand. The constant staff traffic was extremely distracting and it was not the pleasant, relaxing dinner I had hoped for. The waiter was nice but left our menus on the table through the entire dinner and never cleared our bread plates or cheese and crackers, which are served in lieu of bread. Speaking of the cheese and crackers, it was literally dropped on our table (in front of my husband instead of in the center of the table) by a waitress who sprinted by with two other plates of cheese and crackers destined for other tables.
The meal itself was excellent. I had the filet with Yukon potatoes and the beef was superb. I opted for the “J1” sauce but the meat was so flavorful that I didn’t use any.
My husband had the halibut and said it was outstanding.
In a nut shell, sophisticated menu with unsophisticated service. Hopefully with a little training the restaurant will be five stars all around.
Food and service were amazing. The only thing we didn’t like were the tables upstairs were very close together and it was very loud. Would recommend for a special occasion
I made this reservation for my boss who was entertaining out-of-town clients. They informed me that the food was wonderful. However, the service was poor and their entire dining experience took over two and a half hours. The food came out very slowly, the server was not knowledgeable about menu itema and wine/drinks, they did not receive all of the appetizers they ordered, and they received the wrong bottle of wine.
Hands down BEST. FOOD. EVER.! Was impossible to top this meal the rest of my visit to Charlotte. I had the lamb burger which was a 15$ burger and I’d easily have paid 30$ for it. Never again will I eat a burger that amazing!!!! The cheese flatbread was also perfect. Portions were large and every detail of each dish was perfect! A MUST to visit in Charlotte.
Tyler Cook is great at his job and gave us an amazing experience.
Overall very good. Background music was too loud. But I'd go again.
We liked the wine list selections and enjoyed our meals of sesame tuna and halibut. If you are seeing a show at the Blumenthal, you can also receive a dessert and 10% off of your meal, which is very nice. A good choice uptown, close to the theatre.
Birthday for my son was a great time for all.
The food & drinks were fantastic,as usual, but you were not very busy and our server was less than efficient (would go back for one thing, missing several other needs). She lacked considerable attentiveness and the ability to properly describe food choices or make recommendations.
Atmosphere was amazing! Food came out hot and the mimosas were divine!
Sorry to say the entire experience was so disappointing. Started off that a few people that had been drinking quite a bit took our table (they were in the process of sitting us there) the other customers wouldn’t move so sat us somewhere else. The hostess did apologize. However it only went down from there. Brought us a craft of water but no glasses for 10 minutes. Finally came to take our order, another 14 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. It was so dark in the corner banquet that we had to use our cell phones to see the menu. The waiter would disappear and not come back. The food was pretty good, (especially the collard greens) but they are spicey and had no water or drinks. We were staying at the Ivey and the hotel had sent over a dessert for us, so that was a nice touch. Overall we will not be back. It was between here and Morton’s and 5Church can not hold a candle Morton’s.
Sat at the bar. Great experience
Chef Whitney is the best! Everything she sends out is spectacular!! 5 stars indeed!!!
We had an 8:00 reservation on a Wednesday evening. Requested to sit upstairs but was informed it was closed. Once seated an extremely uncomfortable situation occurred when a street person entered the restaurant and proceeded to harass patrons. Food was poorly prepared, ie. some undercooked and some over cooked. However, restaurant did realize our experience was subpar and provided dessert for the table which was appreciated.
By far one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! The NY Strip was phenomenal and I’m always a filet girl but I took a chance based on our waiters suggestion and was so happy I did!! And our service was amazing!!
First time here. Came based off a friend's recommendation. Best meal I've had in some time.
We had a 6pm reservation but were told that we could choose an “unusual “ table or wait. We waited 20 minutes and then were told the next available table had only just finished their entree. We took the “unusual spot “ as we had a 8pm concert to attend. We sat at 6:30. Service was horrible. They were slammed due to concert and play and were not staffed. It was chaotic. It took almost 20 minutes to get more than a glass of water. Dinner came at 7:30 even though we ordered when we ordered our drinks. The tuna was very good but only about 3 small ounces cut into three pieces with what appeared to be one small red or fingerling potato cut into six pieces . That was it. Good thing 8 had ordered the beet salad! (Which was very good). We were late to the concert, never got our dessert off the theater priced fixe menu but ate the one off the table next to us that they served as the people were also
running out the door and furious while we waited for our
check. Don’t know if I’d go back. It was highly recommended but very poorly staffed and overpriced food for what you get.
We both had the filet mignon from the pre-theatre menu. One of the best steaks we've ever eaten.
Was a little disappointing. Walked in at 5pm prior to seeing a show this past Sunday at Belk Theatre, server announced they were out of 5 things. Most of which were on the special list. Why have a special list if you can’t support it.
Always a great time with great service. I love Rachael, the Manager. I was hoping the DJ would be playing, but I guess that's Saturday.
Food was great but portions were TINY. I got the crabcakes and poached eggs. For $18 you got two poached eggs over crabcakes and english muffins that were so small we laughed when they arrived at the table. It was like they punched the middle of an english muffin out with a cookie cutter the size of a silver dollar.
I would understand the tiny crabcakes if they were all lump crab but sadly they weren't. The service was great. Would return for drinks and the atmosphere but not food.
Excellent food and service! This was my husband’s and my first time at 5Church. We were celebrating a big move in June. Kaylen J. was our server and she was beyond knowledgeable about the menu and facts about your establishment. I had the steak burger and side salad. Very flavorful! As someone who eats gluten-free, I would add a “gluten-free” bun to your menu for your guests that are gluten sensitive. A lot of restaurants offer more gluten-free options and I was surprised to see you didn’t offer many options. The atmosphere was very trendy and fun! Thanks so much!
We made reservations prior too and were seating immediately upon arrival. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming! I will be returning (:
Brunch before a play. Would go again.
Cohen top remeber my birthday - BEAUTIFUL venue, intimate when you want it equally social when you want it. Service was good, food was AMAZING only negative was my party and i had a reservation and still had an extended wait, management made up for it but unfortunately it caused us to miss our next event.
Server was very attentive - fun atmosphere - will be back soon
We were excited to try this restaurant but it missed the mark overall. The food is "OK", based on that the value was not there. We got the tuna tartare which was tasty, but from there it fell apart. Their "60" minute sirloin was a big disappointment for the price and the collard greens were SOOOO salty it was inedible. Wine, beer drink selection was good, service pretty good as long as you kept ordering wine and drinks, but that is about it. So MANY other better choices and values in Charlotte. Also we had made reservations here a month ago, we were on time- but had to wait over 30 minutes to get our table- not cool! Take a pass on this one.
Amazing restaurant and exceptional staff!! Apps (squid - Tuna) were a little salty - steaks were very good but could have been more tender - filet should not need a knife when outstanding
Regardless, really think this is a great restaurant!
This place is always a good time. The portion size could be a little better.. I also think a few more items on the brunch and Dinner menus would be great.
I've been here over 40 times in the last 3 years and I've seen a lot of changes but a lot of growth.
I took myself to 5Church for a soothing dinner prior to a stressful event the next day. Food and wine and service were all excellent. Small ding that I could not end the evening with an espresso ... somehow the "we are out of espresso" apology didn't jibe with how well everything else in the restaurant flowed. Otherwise it was lovely.
Great food, service and ambience. Filet was an excellent choice.
