The quality of food did not match the hype or cost. The poor attitude and annoyance received by the hostess was unacceptable. The Chef recommended our filet be cooked medium, however, my husband's was well done. The dessert cappuccino my husband ordered was terrible. The only bright spot was our waiter who was excellent. We would not return with so many other options available in the area.
We were seated in the Buffalo room where the noise level is much lower than the main dining area. Service was attentive and spot on. Food was excellent - had Moroccan meatball appetizer and duck entree. Nice wine list also.
We had brunch here. The meal itself took a long time to get out to us. Three of us ordered the praline French toast and the Caramel sauce resembled more of a crust and lacked pecans the flavor was good however. The last one in our party got avocado toast. The price of the meal was extremely high for what it was. I love fine dinning and brunch but it was lack luster here.
Incredible building! Super friendly waitress. Brunch was amazing! Pulled Pork eggs Benedict, French Toast and fries were so tasty
We had brunch before we left to return home for the weekend. Everything about our experience was perfect. Waitress was delightful! Food was superb! We sat in the large sanctuary room which is an architectural dream. So pretty! Will definitely sign there again.
Not a great experience. Our waitress basically rushed us through our meal.
My husband and I ordered an appetizer - and when that arrived we ordered a salad to share and our mains. The salad came out immediately - with the appetizer — not great. Then the mains came out shortly after and were lukewarm, almost cool—as if they had been sitting under the heat lamps for awhile. So we ended up having all of our food courses dry quickly and not even fresh off the grill. My husband had ordered a steak and I had ordered the prawn risotto - so obviously these were not supposed to be served almost cold. :)
The waitress seemed pretty uninterested and seemed as if she wanted to turn the table quickly.
That being said- the atmosphere is great -but the menu leaves something to be desired. The Tempest restaurant next door is the same owner and out of the same kitchen, and it is much better fare and a much better and more upscale dining experience.
Very cool vibe, great service, great food! Large bar!
Emily, our server, was wonderful! The place is gorgeous. We had so much fun
. Great drinks available. The food was disappointing. The lamb burger had to many other flavors to appreciate. There weren't very many available protein starters for those who don't want to spend $30+ on entrees. Overall, not a place we would return unless just for drinks. They brought out hummus and chips later.. Not sure if this always happens, but came at an odd time. The wedge salad was the best ..it was a special.
Mimosa carafe is well worth it! Great atmosphere and the church inside is so pretty!
Restaurant is fantastic only complaint is the volume. Could be subsided by installing sound dampeners on walls.
Wonderful experience! The atmosphere, decor, and overall vibe of 5Church was so unique and modern. We went for brunch and loved the gluten free coffee cake, salmon vs. eggs, and the french toast! The service was great - our server was attentive and able to help me navigate the menu with a gluten allergy. Will be back!
Great food and atmosphere!
The atmosphere is like nothing else which is partly why you go. The cocktails were solid although a little pricey for what they were. I had the lamb burger while my wife had the duck and we were both plenty happy with our meals. Dessert was excellent as well. All in all, a solid,
unique, experience that I would recommend for anyone visiting Charleston.
Our service was not good, he had a bad attitude. The food however was delicious.
Delicious and the church was beautiful! Love the history and the glass windows! We did an early dinner so it wasn’t too busy or loud!
Spooky vibe. Menu was weird. They kicked us out of looking at actual church area because a private group took up entire bar. Love Charleston. Hated this place.
I reserved 5 Church after reading about the ambiance of the old church building. On arrival, the church was closed for a private event and we were placed in a converted add on room. We felt like we were at the children’s table while the adults had fun next door. This should have been on the reservations page and I would have scheduled another day.
Our French fries were also cold and limp. On the positive side, the pimento cheese dip was delicious!
Very interesting historic venue. Food was good, but nothing really special. Service was excellent.
We had a 7pm reservation. We arrived at 7 and were told our table would not be ready for 15 minutes. The place is very beautiful. We were not thrilled with our server's
actions. We ordered a bottle of white. She brought us a bottle that was room temperature. We then ordered a salad to split and she brings us small bread plates.
We had to ask someone else for larger plates. We did not care for their Spring salad. My wife had a strip steak and I had a Pork chop.
We both enjoyed our entrees.
Good was del Cupid, service amazing.
Great location and very unique dining experience in a remodeled church. Charcuterie board was excellent as was my drink (Folly Sunset). My entree (Pan Seared Prawns) was good, however, for $43 it had one more prawn than the Shrimp & Grits app ($15 or $19, can’t remember). Not a great value for the extra $$$.
Awesome atmosphere, unique, great food and service
Food was ok, over priced. Loud and cold ambiance.
Overall an outstanding meal! Atmosphere, service, presentation, food!!!
We enjoyed returning to 5Church. Service was very good and food came out in a timely manner. Three of the four in my party ordered the exact dish with very different portion sizes. That was a bit puzzling.
Great sandwich great service !
I thought the restaurant was unique and actually very cool!! The lunch menu is pretty limited and pretty pricey for what you get! I have heard the time to go is dinner or brunch which I will try next time!! Our waitress was great and super attentive!!
Menu wasn’t big, we were there for lunch. Fries were very greasy, as were the chips for the cheese. Salad was good and so were the tea’s. Our waitress was a bit slow, had to keep looking for her. The building was beautiful!
Food was fair at best. Good / attentive server. Disappointed we were sat near restroom hallway (not in big Church room in photo). Shame on hostess knowing we had a reservation.
5Church has always been good but last night was exceptional. Really solid service and excellent food prepared to perfection!!!
High price for very little food. Food was mediocre.
Atmosphere was great but service was slow. We sat at our table for close to 10 minutes before a server came to ask what we would like to drink. Food was okay, but not the best. I've eaten some amazing food at great restaurants and this was not the greatest food for the price. I feel like you're paying for the atmosphere only.
The biscuits and gravy was better at Best Western. The bacon was terrible. My waiter was probably new. The only thing this place had going for it was it's decor. Overpriced, overrated and we won't be returning. It's a tourist trap.
On the other hand- The pizza place down the street at the hole in the wall was amazing. Some Italian named place with the letters "pizza" spelled vertically on the door. "Pizzeria de Giovanni" is the name.
I never write reviews… but I have to for this garbage if an establishment. Horrible. in so. Many. Ways. I travel often for work, go all over the country, eating out often. This is a tourist trap, with overly expensive food, and some of the worst service imaginable. Everything was over cooked, salty and dry. We got the fresh catch of the day, their risotto and French fries. Fries looked like they were cooked yesterday and sat out all day. We asked for ketchup. Got none. Risotto was rice.. and beans. It was awful. Fish was soooo salty and over cooked. Our waiter came by twice the entire time. To take our order and drop off the check. We barely ate any of the meal and he didn’t give a crap to ask why. We couldn’t flag him down to even try to explain why we weren’t eating the meal. My husband finished his first drink and we sat trying to wave him down to order another and finally gave up. I DO NOT recommend this place to even your worst enemy. Probably some of the grossest food I’ve ever had. Don’t waste your time and money there is sooo many great places to eat in Charleston, please avoid this place! Go elsewhere.
Loved our cocktails, our wine and our entrees. All was wonderful and what an amazing setting!
The menu is a bit limited but still varied. Oddly they ran out of a few menu items and it was rather early in the evening which was disappointing. The service was on point and extremely professional.
Overall food quality and presentation were well done and inventive. The ambiance is noisy so don’t expect an intimate dinner experience.
Server was great. Knowledgeable and lots of fun. Ravioli were disappointing. I know al dente but these were plainly undercooked. Duck was really good, earthy and flavorful. Citrus tart was under baked. Expected more but in these times all places are struggling.
We ordered the House Ramen with pork, and pork chops. The Chef graced us with his exceptional hummus! Our waiter was knowledgeable, patient and kind. We had a wonderful 31st Anniversary celebration!
Reed was a wonderful server offering great suggestions. I was upset that the croissant was out while I visited but I had a lamb burger which was nice too!
