34 is Chef Emeril Lagasse’s first restaurant dedicated to the cuisine of his Portuguese heritage. He was inspired by his late mother, Hilda, who influenced his interest in cooking when he was a child growing up in Fall River, MA. The 245-seat restaurant is adorned in shades of green – Emeril’s signature color – wood accents and ornate Portuguese tiles. A painting of a rooster, a national Portuguese symbol of good luck, greets guests at the entrance. Once inside, a jamon bar with countertop service and tile-clad DJ booth are focal points of the space. The restaurant celebrates not only the food and design of Portugal but also the sounds, with music from local and touring DJs.

34 is excited to host an intimate dinner with winemaker Joana Maçanita. Joana will guide you through a multi-course experience paired with wines from portfolio of wines. Seating is extremely limited. In any given year, Joana Maçanita brings more than 60 Portuguese wines to life. Her home winery, Maçanita Vinhos, is in the famed Douro Valley, but she also works with special vineyards all over the country as a consulting winemaker. No matter how far-flung these projects may be, Joana’s core winemaking approach is marked by her unique combination of applied science plus an unwavering devotion to local culture and terroir. Her deep understanding of how and why wine behaves as it does based on its place of origin allows her to commit to working sustainably and with minimal intervention in the winery. Joana firmly believes in listening to what nature communicates in the vineyard, and her winemaking methods are tailored to respect the message received in every site she vinifies.

Mixed experience. I’ll start by admitting I am new to Portuguese food so keep that hat in mind! My main point of reference is Spanish which is of course not the same. Croquetas and anchovy toast apps hm were very good. Patatas bravas were excellent. Mains - duck rice and the octopus were just ok. The rice and duck were both a bit dry. No socarrat (perhaps that is not a Portuguese rice thing). The flavor of the octopus was drowned in a bbq like sauce. Had a nice carrot side dish. The service was kind of crazy. First, all the food (apps and mains) came in 15 minutes. We got three dishes before our drinks came, which is a peeve of mine. So it then proceeded to get cold all at once. Recommend ordering in stages! From there service was very sporadic. I ended up having a glass of wine as desert since we were done with the food by the time it arrived. Nice selection of Portuguese wine though.

We sat near the kitchen at the salad prep bar where Thomas (culinary intern) was preparing food. He was incredibly nice and friendly and he’s a US army veteran. We highly recommend sitting at the food prep bar. We had a great time.

I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times and I want it to succeed, since we eat out a lot, enjoy Portuguese food, and enjoy the ambiance. That said the restaurant has been inconsistent. Service is friendly, but not very attentive given the price point. My first meal, I brought 4 friends and tried many dishes. The uniqueness and quality of the dishes brought me back a second time. At the second dinning, the sardines, octopus, desserts and cocktails (gin and tonic) were very good. The service was inattentive. The Prego needed to be sent back as it was too rare, then came back cooked perfectly, but overly spiced saturating the flavor. The seafood arroz was bland, the seafood meager, and the dish felt like a bust at $65. We will give it another try, but given the amount of restaurant choices at the same price point, we will be more critical.

Restaurant is beautiful. The ham dishes and octopus were amazing. Sadly the seafood paella was undercooked with tremendous amounts of sauce. The Veggie paella was better but still a disappointment.

A group of us (4) went for a birthday dinner. The staff was wonderful, the restaurant is beautiful and very well thought out. The food was great. It is not your typical New Orleans Food, but it is a typical New Orleans Restaurant with amazing food and wonderful time. Done by Emeril and his son and definitely an experience.

Excellent choice to celebrate my 64th Birthday!!! Food is Superb!! We had the Seafood Rice (juicy) perfect!!! And had the Octopus!!! Perfect!! Cook to perfection!!! Highly recommended!!!

Emeril is so talented and it was a treat going to eat with friends. Menu offers shareable tapas style dishes which gives you the opportunity to try many different dishes. Our waiter explained everything well however he recommended us getting 2 more dishes that we really didn’t need. The menu, I feel, is not for everyone but if you are adventurous you’ll do well.
